What about that Tevez then, eh? Mental.
Arsenal fans..keep the faith.
Prefer the result
I'll probably be one of seven.
Gets to a point in European hidings where some sort of silly us versus them mentality kicks in.
It was a crazy result, and performance, really. This Milan side is quite poor at home in Europe (3 wins in their last 12, all against poor sides), yet they toyed with Arsenal and if anything the scoreline flattered the away side, it should've been six or seven.
We're done this to death, but it must be so frustrating watching that every week. It clearly isn't wholesale changes needed. There's plenty of middle ground between spending bucketloads of cash and relying on players like Walcott, Rosicky, even to a lesser extent Ramsey, week in, week out, none of who are bad players (really), certainly not the latter, but all of which, and others, should be around the fringes of the first-team, not key members of it.
That said, can't help but feel results like that might be a positive thing for Arsenal medium-term...though i think we've said that several times over the last season or two. Nasri bants aside, it's a shame to see them struggling, they're easily the lesser of the rest of the big six evils as far as i'm concerned.
also a fan of Seedorf and the banner showing Berlusconi and the Queen.
creamed myself until he misplaced the pass afterwards. Mental to think that early 2000s people were thinking he'd underachieved a bit. Ajax 95 poundit.
implying he shagged the queen, obviously
Although Arsenal rarely had clear-cut chances, Thiago Silva was superb. Not sure there's a more complete centre-half in world football than him nowadays.
Nice to see Zlatan going out of his way to impress a British TV audience, as well. Consistant silverware counts for nothing unless a few armchair supporters in England think you're much cop.
...and Robinho, as well. Still one of the best players we've ever had, just here a couple of years too early.
they'll be on the end of a similar scoreline.
the only bit of arsenal goodness was when abbiati flicked tha Van Persie volley past the post. To be fair though if that had gone in it would have been amazing...lovely build up play there.
this makes me happy
Wasn't he supposed to be the reincarnation of garrincha or something
He does seem to get some stick though despite being very good.
tbf i should not base opinions on watching him a few years back and yesterday. Really need to up my football watching game :(
Brazil's best player at the last Copa America as well.
something about how easy he makes it look.
Hard to put a spin on it, in terms of the goals themselves then maybe the scoreline was unfair (offside?, freak slip, not a penalty), but you could hardly say Arsenal were robbed. They could have got an away goal I think which would have offered a glimmer of hope, but they didn't so they're essentially out.
Still don't like the 4-3-3. The Ox looked handy, surely a shoo-in for England captain. That relaid pitch was beyond a joke though, at least try and disguise the fact you've done it.
Djourou's gonna give them away all week.
they're not allowed to tackle, innit.
of squabbling, sulking and fighting.
Djourou looked clumsy, but he always looks clumsy. He didn't actually put his feet in, they just clashed knees.
It's not an excuse, but the pitch was an absolute disgrace. It pretty much exposed Arsenal's current inability to play a narrow game though, they just couldn't put anything together.
Against Chelsea he marked Drogba out of the game and I thought "this guy is going to be GREAT for us", but despite my highest hopes it hasn't really worked out that way.
zenits last goal: 1 touch stuff, 2 of them nifty back heels. lovely stuff.
are barcelona as good as last year? i havent watched them but they seem to have a nearly entirely different team.
Kev Davies out for three
At least this will hopefully stop the 4-4-2 nonsense.
You'd think he had something to gain from clubs bigger than Spurs knowing that he's definitely available for a transfer.
It's like the handsome boy kissing all the ugly girls to make the sexy girls jealous so that they defintely go out with him.
'...at Arsenal, there is a coach and French players. And Thomas Vermaelen.'
I like it
(and has done for ages, not just after he's said this)
Oh Christ the comments...
you can take it with you
lfc-YNWA joke account on here.
Then I went back. I read the whole thing. And some of the comments. And now I want to smash things
That's not an old adage, its a joke.
They've been magnanimous so far?! Can't wait to see what's coming then :)
The man widely regarded to be the worst signing ever speaks of his time at Leeds
No, it's DK isn't it.
It's not a completely ludicrous statement, is it? Most people fancied them to at least get a goal before last night.
They're especially good when they mention spurs, which most of them do.
give him that much
If Theo wants to Run, Let him go and run on the TreadMill... He hasnt paid back the investement wenger made in him. Am ashamed. sorry Theo
Ramsey needs to stop thinking he is Cesc. He is trying to hard. Mate, Just stick to what you know. Cant wait for Jack to be back. he is best
Alex Song , Am sorry mate, But you have gone down in the performance. maybe you need a rest. you need to be more like Tiote. Help those kids
Rosicky i respect you and you are a good professional, but you need to start shooting and doing more. anybody can pass from A 2 B. plsssss
Djorou, whats wrong wiv you brother. You should be better than this. i dont understand. maybe you stoped eating fufu when i left. Man up bro
Arteta, You need to do more. You can spend all the time looking after your hair, pls brother take charge or you might as well do a Cesc
It's called @TheRealEboue ffs.
Thiery, The best we ever had, i respect you legend. You would always remain in our heart. One love VA VA VOOM
england's answer to xavi-iniesta? i don't think a single person would disagree with that.
couple nice goals for Wigan, 3 or 4 forward passes for United and suddenly he is a brilliant player and a shoe-in for the euros. Obviously you were kidding with the xavi/iniesta thing, but I love the fact that United fans tried to cushion the blow of not getting Schneider in the summer by pinning ALL their creative hopes on an un-tried pup. The kid is OK, but no better than that.
And absence makes the heart grow fonder etc
The fact is he had a very good start to the season with us though and we played a lot better football with him in the side. That may well turn out to be coincidental but he's definitely promising more that just OK.
he looked distinctly average in the under 21 tournoi during last summer. fair enough, the whole team played poorly throughout, but from an England perspective (have no care for United) if he represents the next generation, then the future is pretty bleak. As you can tell, I don't rate the cat.
Don't want to regurgitate a whole load of international vs domestic football arguments but I couldn't give one single fuck about his U21 performances when compared to his club ones, a player of his style is about what he allows his teammates to do as much as anything, he's always showing for it, always an option and linked up with everyone fantastically well. I don't think the fact that he didn't do the same with the likes of Henri Lansbury and Fabrice Muamba is at all relevant to his long-term future a s a Utd player.
Man, cat, dog, G, holmes etc. It's a bit weird.
you trying to get crazy with essay?
take it easy, chico
he went Razor Ramon on your ass!
Pogba on the bench, was hoping he'd get a start
Think it'll be a guddun given Ajax's recent mental breakdown.
Might even watch that over our complete rimming in Oporto.
Why the fuck are games kicking off at 6pm on a Wedesday, it's not as if they're in Russia, ffs.
There are more Europa League games than Champions League games and this is how they stagger them.
Not with their 6bn supporters.
Might have to go to the boozer, my Sky box has packed in.
those shoulders :S
It's like when Ade Akinbiyi got that injury for ages and came back absolutely stacked and (even more) immobile.
That was great.
Though it reminds me of Jay Bothroyd this season
ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL SIGNS FOR QPR
Seriously small time
jay bothroyd crap
I now imagine him leading a very Wayne Bridge-like existence.
And now Hughes even prefers Rob Hulse to him.
Now and again he trots down the touchline warming up, giving a little clap and getting abused by all and sundry
This is Romelu Lukaku when he was 17...
I mean he's no Ade, but Jesus. 17!
neither can handle crosses
What's the connection between Michael Jackson and Scottish goalkeepers?
They both wear gloves for no reason!
I didn't get it, but fobbed it off as my own work in the playground to great critical acclaim
If so, apologies.
Team - The Old Awkwardians
League - The Dairylea cup
I'll be home for 6pm
United should win by a couple without conceding.
Absolute shite. A manager heading for the exit door, a warring board, some of the most overrated players in the Eeredivise.
Both will lose, mind.
this competition is viewed very differently in Portugal compared to England, Porto have pedigree in it, are very strong at home, City don't travel well and though we might field a strong side surely can't be that arsed about the whole shebang.
Ajax 0 United 2
Porto 3 City 0.
he's going to be the best player in the world soon <<< i predicted this
will go for huge bucks over the next couple of years.
the money Porto make on players is obscene. they're like Arsenal, but good.
It's one hell of a business model
It'd save their clubs a lot of time and money.
I'm pretty sure a lot of clubs are always aware of these players but they can't sign them, must be hella frustrating
The work permit situation over here seems pretty stupid to me. There don't seem to be any actual rules on who constitutes an 'outstanding talent'. I guess more clubs could try doing what Chelsea did with Alex- sign him while they're young and cheaper and loan them out until they can work in the UK. Mind you, we tried that with Rajkovic and he still couldn't get a work permit after about 5 years in Holland ...
Sorry everyone :D
for the honour of Luis Suarez, their departed hero.
I heard this morning PSG have asked about getting him in the summer.
You couldn't sell him, but imagining the fee he'd command gives me hard nipples.
Europe badly misses Spurs.
very, very slow.
Chicarito has made some great runs, just begging for a half decent through ball, but they're always over-hit or played too late.
Going to give Ashley Young the benefit of the doubt again...
The Ajax lad who took a weak shot when they were 2 on 1 really dropped a bollock.
AJAX IS ON FIIIIRE!!!
What is this half time karaoke all about?
(i want sex with the bald guy)
there's another new england home kit.
they've worn the current (now old) one 8 (EIGHT) times.
raimond van der gouw in the stands just there?
STOP PATRONISING DUTCH PEOPLE
I've never heard it. Surely you mean just at half-time? This was during play.
I instinctively think commentators are using his name as an adjective
what do all these clubs have in common?
QPR, West Ham, Watford, Derby, Hull, Burnley, Blackpool, Swansea, Sheffield Wed, Southend, Barnsley, Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Man City, Tottenham, Birmingham, Reading, Sunderland, West Brom, Wolves, Newcastle, Leicester, Norwich, Millwall, Brighton, Peterborough, Carlisle, Cheltenham, Walsall, Bristol R, MK Dons, Brentford, Gillingham, Notts County, Dagenham and Redbridge, Chesterfield, Stevenage, Southampton, Accrington, Hereford, Morecambe, Aldershot, Exeter, Burton, Torquay, Oxford, Crawley and AFC Wimbledon.
They're all a bunch of shitcunts?
They've all won a trophy more recently than Arsenal
last won the league?
I think he thought that should have been 2 goals.
I thought Tom Cleverly was the reincarnation of cruyff, maradona, zidane and steffen freund combined?
He rolls around enough that he should be pretty convincing by now. At least most other players with divey tendencies do it with some finesse.
An injury straight after, of course
They could've fashioned something from one of the counter-attacks with a tiny bit of quality. Norwich away will be tougher.
Should be able to play a B team next Thursday.
ALWAYS makes me think it's about to play Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. Listen for the honk.
Lovely second goal for Sporting.
That was a good link-up for the second goal.
and the finish was a bit lucky.
all credit to tony v
Yet their 3rd in La Liga. Overrated league
I think soldado is quaaaaaaaality, but he's on the bench.
but at last we got to see how a Spanish team would fare on a cold midweek night at the Britannia Stadium.
what have stoke done to them already
missed the goal because i was watching peter crouch diving
terrific possession football by Porto first 20.
they've really knocked it around nicely, we had to soak up pressure and hit them on the break, but could've scored a couple ourselves.
Talk about an appointment out of the blue. Makes absolutely no sense to me, but still, something must've happened for the odds to drop so much out if nowhere...
(unless you support Wolves, obviously).
Was he pretty cack then?
But clashed with Bates, as well as some of the senior players. SAME AS IT EVER WAS.
He was cack at Watford, mind.
Still, utterly implausible. Would be some kind of statement, I suppose, but must just be someone shitting with the betting companies.
Chris Powell will do it one day, obvs - but of the current crop of players I can't see far beyond Lampard tbh
He says all the right things about Redknapp, but gets it so woefully wrong in the end.
Chris Powell could be a good shout, actually.
Porto look as spread as arsenal last night at the back.
Not seen us do that too often/at all away to decent sides in Europe. Didn't see it coming in a million years.
Wanted us out of the competition before that given the Thursday/Sunday games and what effect they could have on the title race, but fuck it.
Chuffed. Honestly thought we'd get a bit of a hiding there.
Team performance, but thought Nasri and Richards did especially well, plus Clichy and Vince second half.
