I don't know why this happens but it's infuriating. Awful musky mouldy smell after they've been washed and dried. Why.
never discovered why. even when you use the same soap shit. seems to be random.
ie the mucky shit is circulating round the machine. you just need to give the pipe a clean. nb - turn off the water first, eh
And if there's a removable filter, clean that out, too.
spread them out more or put them somewhere drier or hang them outside (weather permitting)
They tend to develop a 'damp' kind of smell from sitting on a clothes horse to dry out over a long period. It's fine when they've been hung outside.
When I wash them, I'll either bang them in the dryer - problem solved.
Or youre not washing at a high enough temp?
30degs is sufficient
it is DEFO the wastepipe
it's usually because they're not aired enough when drying
my guess is the latter. kid lives at home so his mum is hardly gonna leave that shit festering. that's not what mums do
- Clean the drawer and rim of the machine out.
- Put a tablet inside, with softener, or even bleach in the drawer, don't put clothes in and put it through a short cycle.
- Don't overload when you wash.
- Always use plenty of softener, and use two tablets instead of one.
- Take loads our directly after they've finished and put straight in the dryer.
- Get some dryer sheets (nice smelling tissue-like shit to make your dryer smell nice).
I must stress that i don't have a problem with muskiness. Honestly.
one other tip - leave the washing machine door OPEN after use. let that shit BREATHE
but it never happened if I hung them up outside. I was taught recently though that you should flap your clothes about a bit before hanging them up just to let the air get to them before sticking them on the radiator/clothes horse/bannisters. This has served me well.
Laundrettes make clothes smell bad, probably because you are rinsing them in the filth of thousands of others. If it is at home you could need the washing machine cleaning out, but the main issue would be not using enough soap / conditioner and taking too long to dry the clothes once you are done.
really annoying, but I'll just have to put up with it for 3 years
The word for this is frowsty. I only discovered this a couple of years ago.
