Gonna start making an effort in dressing etc.
Or to feel that appearances matter. Try saying to yourself, "First impressions count!" and "You CAN judge a book by its cover.". (See also "Clothes maketh the man")
And stick to it. Doesn't matter what it is, just stick to what you like wearing. As others adapt with fashion trends, you'll be the man with the genuine image. My token outfit is black and white - cheap polo shirt on top (usually white), old black skinny jeans on the bottom and tattered all black Converses on my feat. I wear it almost all the time.
Also, don't get into grooming to much. I only shave. I don't moisturise or anything like that, I shower once every 2 days (I don't do much) and wash my hair every third day or so. Effortless is the way to be.
was exactly what he was looking for.
Once every 2 days? Even in the summer? Ah, student days.
Did you ignore my first paragraph about fashion?
(Well, except the bit about showering, although I do sometimes only shower once over the course of the weekend). Just that he didn't actually mention fashion at all. "Caring about your appearance" could easily be read as "Getting into grooming".
Which I think is pretty accurate. Men are a lot more appealing if they dress well.
is to dress like a dickhead, know you're dressing like like a dickhead, and revel in the fact that you look like a dickhead
Spend a couple of hundred if needed. It's the thing most people will see you in most of the year.
I like Reiss jackets,
I work out, eat well and dress on the normal human being side of indie bellsniff, but it's all to no avail because of rule number one.
going from what you've just said, though, I'm happy to waive rule 1 in this instance.
It depends what look you're going for though. Ironed clothing helps, clean shoes are always a great shout - People always look at other people's shoes subconsciously and judge them (so i've heard)
the only people who I know that care too much about it are either gay or in denial about being gay. Don't take that the wrong way, wish I had better fashion sense. I just don't care enough.
men don't need to 'care for their appearance'. Get up, quick shower, slap the Lynx Africa on, that's it.
It's somehow fashionable for men to not bother shaving, to not brush their hair, to have a bit of a pot belly, to wear clothes that look like they've come out of a bin. Dunno why. Think it's somethhing to do with a generation of insecure women who want a partner who won't run off with someone.
it's worth spending money on 2 or 3 pieces every season - a jacket, jumper, nice shirt, whatever - that's fairly expensive. It'll mean you carry yourself differently and automatically look after yourself a bit more.
Also: don't wear scruffy shoes.
You want really natty clothes if you want to take care of your appearance
keep a bit of neat stubble. Trim eyebrows, sideburns. Wear slim fitting trousers, pointy school shoes, tucked in slim fitting shirt. Basically look like one of the F1 presenters or one of the pundits on match of the day.
I only do this for work, at home it is well-fitting jeans, standard trainers, tightish t-shirt usually with some kind of band on it.
After a decade of being a curly bastard I recently decided to cut it all off. Was a bit worried about it being too short at first but all the ladies at work say I look a lot more suave now. Shame about the face though.
ALWAYS mimic Eddie Jordan's dress sense
I don't and look at where this has got me in life
once you're not ugly you can get away with anything
You might as well just start dressing eccentrically so people think of you as a bit of a character. It's not great but it's all that's open to you.
is the op that much of a munter?
I speak only of myself.
They don't, both you your aesthetics are of little or no interest to the vast majority of human beings currently living.
So buck up if you fancy it, there might be a knock on effect if it helps you project yourself a bit more confidently or whatever. But if not, I wouldn't worry.
and just wash it by thoroughly massaging your scalp under the shower at least once a day. Be prepared for a couple of weeks where it will look greasy, but after that the natural oil levels will establish themselves and it'll look great. Really clean, healthy, no dandruff.
Doesn't work on longer hair though.
Use it to wash the scalp as above, and the hair gets clean as you rinse. Wash your head, not your hair is the thing.
Conditioner goes on the hair, though.
makes them look about 50 times more attractive. RIGHT LAYDEEZ? Or maybe I have a weird outerwear fetish?
Pretty much all you need to do is wash daily and don't get too mangy and someone will take pity on you.
Tumblr's a good place for fashion/style/grooming tips. Here's a few to get you going:
Others have mentioned spending a bit on key items. Good shoes and a nice coat/jacket will go a long way.
Get good at shaving. Lots of people are put off because they get shaving rash / ingrown hairs - this needn't be the case if you're doing it right.
Go to a really good hair stylist and get advice on what will suit your hair/face shape. From then on just get it maintained at your usual place.
