It switched over for me about two or three ago. I didn't like it at first but I'm used to it now. It still takes too many clicks to get where you want to be, though, maybe even more than before.
The box to type a new tweet is in the narrow left hand column, not the width of tweets you read. When you click on someone's name, it brings a pop up box with their last three tweets, rather than bringing up their profile on the right half - you no longer get half pages like that. Also names are displayed in bold with @names in small and greyscale, not the other way around, although that might have changed on old twitter too.
So nothing too dramatic, but like small changes to Facebook, it's a bit odd at first. And as I say, a bit irritating as it seems to require more clicks.
My main issue is that as soon as a 'conversation' meets someone whose account is locked the preview stops, even if you follow them so you can see their tweets.
So before you didn't need to click on x to see anything else.
Why do people have to keep changing things?
but DiS stripped them out
i wasn't even being entirely serious. good work df :D
but beyond the layout, "promoted tweets" pretty much signal the beginning of the end for the service.
Seems that you can't directly link to tweets anymore. Well that's good.
Seems that you can.
can someone tell me how to get rid of the huge follow suggestions boxes at the top?
it will eventually say they have no more suggestions for you and it'll go. It's more trouble than it's worth, though, especially as it'll come back the next day.
You have to click 'open' then 'details' then c and p the url.
I don't usually link to Tweets.
I don't disagree about too many clicks: Twitter has ALWAYS had this issue. Even their mobile app is a fucking nightmare for that.
they haven't done anything to make it easier to follow conversations, especially if you're having one with someone who is also replied to by someone with a locked account.
worse than timeline.
like "connect" and "discover" replacing real words. But I like the layout. Mentions being right at the top like on the mobile app is good.
doesn't feel right on a pc/laptop
Internet Explorer followed suit a few weeks ago.
I'm not sure I like it - if anything it's made it less intuitive.
I actually prefer it. It's a lot quicker, for a start.
but facebook has changed again. Click on a picture and see.
Oh well. At least I got a mild chuckle cos the image I clicked on as a test was http://i.imgur.com/9tlCR.jpg
The compact setting just about made things ok after the recent big change. (Still not chuffed about the auto-expand mechanics of the left hand column, mind, but it's tolerable).
But now they've fucked about with it again and there's about 17 acres of pointless whitespace at the top of the page, AND a massive wanky auto-flyout thing when you hover over the Google logo for more than a picosecond.
it's probably the worst thing about it now. i have EVERYTHING sorted, so my inbox is basically just all the spam i am signed up for.
the auto expand thing on the left /is/ shit.
All the mega-popular websites change their interface seemingly on a monthly basis, DiS hasn't changed in AGES.
Keep up sean.
Give the fucker a redesign.
Not the photo thing.
Seems like they're focusing on resurrecting the groups concept (seeing as a bunch of old groups have re-appeared in the left hand column). And yet, not so long ago, they seemed to be encouraging non-people to set up Pages, rather than groups. Meh.
no idea why anyone would use twitter's home page. It's fucking shite, and always has been.
Tweetbot on my phone rules.
don't use it, thank you.
I realised it was for political advisors and the non-bright.
