I think i only just realised we're not in the noughties any more
and have a massive war to act as both a convenient distraction and useful temporal reference system.
We say the second world war happened in the 40s, but we don't say the first world war happened in the whatever do we?
When we look back on it in 40 years time I'm sure we'll just say 'the second decade of the century' or 'that decade when everything collapsed and we moved to zargon 7'
What I do find strange is we will be saying 'oh back in '33' or whatever, when we are living in the 60s/70s if we are lucky enough to get to them
just like last century it was the nineteen tens
you were missing hands
2018 - 2025
oh it happened in the 1850s or ah remember the 60s, those were some good years eh?
I don't say two thousand and two, I say twenty oh two.
It's frustrating when people say 'two thousand and ten'. You don't say 'one thousand, nine hundred and ninety nine', for example, you say '1999'.
I for one sing 'twenty-oh-zero' whenever 'Disco 2000' comes on.
Was called the Nineteen-tens was it not? So the Twenty-tens I assume. It is weird, I haven't considered anything since the 90s as being a separate decade. It may just be me getting old, but it could all change come the twenties, thirties etc.
