Happy day. Lectures all day, what has life become?
What's going down?
I broke the back of it last night. Over nothing exciting, culminating in my girlfriend storming off on the station platform. Classy.
My calves ache to fuck too :(
Today I am trying to covertly finish my cv while eating a banana.
made too much
it was going to be lunch
it was left in the fridge
and now i have none
And all I want is risotto or paella. Damn you rice, why are you so good?!
Know that we'll still have each other
Sheeldz went and forgot his paella (ella ella eh eh eh)
ps i have still to fully digest your email from last week, but assured i actually pdfed the stuff and they are on my kindle. slowly reading it on my commute, along with my friends chemistry PhD.
which reminds me of a thread idea...
Update the snow watch thread!
(In your own time on the reading... it's obviously far from thrilling. Although next to a chemistry PhD, it's probably light relief in comparison.)
but i was the only one who had signed up. so it was cancelled. so i jumped onto a similar one instead. probably more career-centric, so no great loss.
kinda calorie counting, too. almost constantly hungry. is that how normal, apparently non-gluttonous people feel?
signed up for 'properly learn how to do the fanciest thing i touched on at uni and then get a job at pixar' http://is.gd/dimunu
ended up on 'be able to credibly apply to do what i'm doing now in another company when all my bosses retire in the not too distant future' http://is.gd/ugohic
gonna have to do the former thing under my own steam, by the looks of things.
Poach all of the old clients for Wza-Inc?
Due to lacking the following things: actual architectural qualifications/relevant on-site experience/enthusiasm for general management shizz/inclination toward dealing with Joe Public.
Basically, I enjoy draughting and associated tasks, rather than being a manager anticipating for accounting for other peoples' fuck-ups. I had a taste of the latter as an engineer. It was massively shit.
Let him be the boss; you can sit and talk about socialism all day. S_a_d needs a job in Scotland I hear, he can make the tea, answer the phones, perform fellatio etc.
God you lack no ambition, no wonder you don;t live in London ;-D
i was willing to move to London for him, too.
I did animation and we never really looked at 3D Studio Max, just Lightwave and Maya. I *think* Pixar use Maya so, you know, they'll definitely pick you up from doing the other course. Definitely
with the locals so they don't steal my shoes?
The secret is, when they go for the grab kick them right in the fucking head. Don't hesitate, just kick or they'll have your laces and then they can do what they want. Also, if you get the job I'll teach you the secret peace dance
in the former, i just used 2d autocad (which is what i use now for work). in the ba i used that, plus 3ds max, rhino, i-deas, truespace.
going back and getting back into 3ds max feels like it'd be a pragmatic choice, bearing in mind the practical-minded stuff i'm more familiar with. compared with the the more purely visual stuff that (afaik) lightwave and maya are used for. seeing as i consider myself as more of a technical minded 'draughter' than an actual 'artist'.
from what little i know, 3ds is used quite broadly in computer games dev, which would appear to be an industry with a decent future. but it may be sixes and half dozens.
mind telling me a little more about what your line is? (this subthread can go to pm if appropriate)
Not seen him/spoken to him in a while but iirc he uses 3DS Max. But yeah, he did the same degree as me so trained on Maya and managed to get lucky with a job where they showed him how to use 3DS Max. Pretty sure they're fairly similar though anyway.
I couldn't get a job in animation after graduating, ended up in customer support/admin hell. TBH I wasn't really into the 3D CG stuff anyway, more stop motion (shameless JAG: here's my (not updated since graduating) YouTube channel www.youtube.com/andyvine). I like working with stuff I can get my hands on, more illustration and design these days than filmmaking but that's basically because I don't have the free time.
yeah, the free time thing has meant that i've delay in getting up to speed on 3ds can be measured in years now, rather than months. such is life.
They just push out the older ones :/
I am currently writing my first live action film (easier to film than animation innit) which is going to be a super low budget zombie film (ie the best kind of film) and without working in mind numbing customer support jobs, I'd have never met the people I'm working on it with, or half the people I do design stuffs for. Swings and roundabouts
All the best with it.
I've been constantly hungry since New Year.
I've lost half a stone though so that's something (still need to lose 1 more stone to be in the healthy BMI range - COME ON!).
Only been making an effort for a fortnight, which is nowt, so haven't weighed to know how it's going. But I was 14st just after NY. Bad news. I need to lose 3-3.5st to get into normal BMI. Not that I put too much stock in BMI (but it's totally do-able and feels 'right', 4st would be as much as I could ever sensibly attempt). Allegedly I could still be in the 'normal' zone at 8st. No chance in hell I'm gonna (or want to) lose 6st/40+% of my bodyweight. I'd look gaunt as all fuck!
Not good. Not good at all. I aim to be 11st by March with a combination of strict calorie watching and exercise.
But yeah fair point about BMI - it doesn't take a lot of factors into account and it stiches short people up something rotten because it favours people of >=normal height...
it brings you good luck
My umbrella broke, loads of water ran onto my rucksack, towards the bottom. I could slowly feel the top of my arse getting damp. Now the book I was reading is RUINED, and it's not even mine FFS. And I have wet patches all over my clothes. Fucksake.
Tonight I might go to a "Skeptics In The Pub" thingy. Anyone been before? I'm a little scared.
interval training last night which was FUN but i desperately need some new TRAINERS. I also ate a HADDOCK which was nice.
Done something really bad.
In other news, a photo to cheer y'all up.
quite bad though, even by my standards.

Going to be sleeping on the settee of my uncles empty house for 2 months, which has no heating, cooking equipment and is only used for band practices. Probably shouldnt have handed in the notice to my flat so eagerly.
get this show on the road. no chance to think twice and change your mind. two months of cheap/no rent.
Im moving to Edinburgh! You live in Scotland, right? We could compare spreadsheets and make sure our DiS thread links are up to date and relevant!
I made steak, egg, chips, beans and mushrooms for dinner last night. It was GOOD.
Today - busy day at work, maybe gym at lunch if I can be bothered.
and he didn't even ask.
Today I am going to see my Mum because I forgot her Birthday yesterday.
I have no umbrella.
are they insured?
but my mate back home has a patented* 5-step strategy to getting a girl home with you from a night out.
but just fight them and then they want you
Would it be too weird to ask a customer that comes in my shop quite a lot for a drink. She seems lovely but, you know, she's a customer. Although I did find out she lives down my road. Oooooh.
p.s eltham, did you enjoy M83?
I've heard that's bad.
Yeah I really enjoyed it! Wish they did more loud shoegazey bits, and also wish they played Raconte-moi une histoire, and I couldn't hear the sax solo on Midnight City (poor girl), and the crow didn't see *that* into it. Teen Angst was a nice surprise though as I hadn't heard that in years. What did you think?
Annoyed about the Sax although it was the same the following night too, which seems very strange. The crowd where I was stood were all into it and dancing around etc so that was good. I also liked the light show a lot.
Had a day off yesterday so did some recording that lasted till midnight, ate jerk pork with coriander salad. Got into work to find that both of my bosses are off sick...makes the hangover feel so much easier!
Last night I discovered some show called Community, it's fucking genius.
It's so funny, proper LULZ moments in the first 3 episodes. Also I'm in love with Alison Brie.
the paintball episode is absolutely one of the funniest things i've ever seen
i think it's because it's shite.
but unlike other revered sitcoms such as Frasier, Seinfeld and that other one which is like Seinfeld but with the old man being a cunt all the time, Community is actually funny.
this morning, then practising for a 'competence interview' i have tommorow for a job i really want...it's just going to be bullshit questions on teamwork and giving examples of being a chief right?!
had one of those evenings last night where you potter about doing very little and then wonder where the hell the evening went
you're meant to answer questions in a fairly rigid way. Give it a Google, there's plenty of guides out there.
just trying to come up with some decent answers to what i think most of the questions will be, not my strongest card talking guff about teamwork
sat on the can, enter the cleaner. who then waits outside in front of the door so she can see who comes out. Like a dirty poo voyeur.
and i barely even had to try! it feels so nice and healthy
oh and i left my keys at home. fucksake.
well, try to see, it's a clubnight and only £4, so clearly going to be rammed as they've sold out a show at the much larger Picturehouse in about two weeks
but there are some on the door
I am damp, and probably will be for a while...
Thanks DD <3
My feet are so wet.
I went to Shoreditch house last night but I had a small slamon salad and one glass of prosecco and behaved like a lady, despite being with some very naughty people. Topnight, I will be misbheaving, again in shoredtich. fuck, I should really just move back to Shoreditch, probably.
I have a one-to-one with my pilates guy at 1.
And that's all I've got for you today. oooh, actually, one more thing. I tried a tobermory whisky at lunch yesterday- scary stuff. AVOID.
gonna make pork chops w/ toffee apple sauce. youknowit.
off to london on saturday. i will enjoy it.
