Should've done better really. Didn't do enough revision. Think me and mates were heavily into Pro Evo at the time.

I envy people who didn't have compulsory ICT
did it in year 9... got two C's i think
I had to do Standard Grades
they don't do GCSEs in scotland. It;s graded 1-7 (7 being a fail).
I got all 1s in the following:
English
Maths
History
french
chemistry
physics (I really had to think about this one. thsi is the one I dropped for doing Highers).
SCOTTISH STUDENTS REPRESENT
English: 1
Maths: 1
French: 1
History: 1
Latin: 1
Chemistry: 1

Physics: 1
and yet I somehow conspired to get a Merit three % shy of a distinction on my MA

Considering they were only taken 2 years ago, I'm walking evidence of grade inflation.
That's an amazing set of results!
we did standard grades but i think they might be easier cause peoples grade seem to be better
English
Maths
History
Modern Studies
Music
French
Chemistry
Physics
that should say 1s
dork
what's 'Modern Studies'?
at standard grade you do politics with some sociology
at higher and advanced higher we just did the politics modules
ps its the best subject ever
ahh, Citizenship then
dunno what that is exactly
but I'm pretty sure it's not. we used university level comparative politics and social research textbooks etc.
I think i put (politics) when I list it on CVs
cause english people are always like oh right general studies? no.
yeah General Studies sounds like the worst subject ever
whereas modern studies was awesome. I wanted to do it as well as History and Geogaphy but i wasn't allowed to take any more subjects :(
I wanted to take geography too
my school only let us do 8 standard grades. which is kinda stupid cause they're obviously a joke. I finished my music composition in the first week, sent it off then just spent 2 hours at week teaching myself tunes on the casio keyboards. french was pretty much just watching friend (in english). don't think I read a single book for english.
i did 9 but i can't remember if that was the norm or not at our school
standard grades are kind of ridiculous, i just remember being incredulous that people would get 3s and 4s never mind actually failing some of the subjects. durrrp
not that I put this on my cv lol
another for team scotland
1's in all the following: Biology, Chemistry, Art, Graphics, Geography, Maths, English, French, History
scots doing well so far, consistent excellence. good work team.
I can't really remember what I got for each subject specficially
but I got half Bs and Cs
shut up
you didn't get those results
I'll have to see those certificates
don't know who you are lol
3A*s, 8As
Suck it, bitches.
4A*s, 5As

let's all have a read of the OFSTED report from when I was there

urgh that's fucking grim
tbf mine had music specialist status but was really biased towards sports people anyway, special sports awards assemblies to make thick people feel good about themselves, etc.
lol what a shit school
(sorry if you loved it)
i got on famously well with all the students AND the staff
...why do i suspect this is untrue
safety wink
Mine specialised in languages
GCSE PE was an easy good grade.
Basic biology combined with bullshitting a project about training in a couple of sports.
nah, hated it, so did everyone else so we spent lessons pretending to do training but instead sneaking out onto the field + playing frisbee for a bit. best thing was when we got to do TRAMPOLINING in the olympic standard gymnastics centre just down the road and piss about in the foam pit

Erm, there might be one more, cannae remember. 2002 represent.
absolutely dreadful set of grades that i won't embarrass myself by posting
the highest of which was a D. i got a G in maths, bet you didn't even know G was a real grade.
truth is i listened and learned but i had serious issues in school and just never got homework in. not an excuse, just an unfortunate fact.
i went to college and did some diploma shit alongside "equivalency" certificates for maths and english, which i breezed through. but still, i've always got this part of me that's disappointed and wants to redo them properly. i know everybody says they don't mean much once you're out there but it's my own personal demon that i will DESTROY. one day. maybe.
That's pretty much how I was during my attempt at uni.
I can totally relate
I spent like four months out of school, ended up in a centre for kids who'd had trouble in school, doing something like five GCSEs.
managed to get As in English Language & Literature, though. considering all the shit I went through, I'm quite proud of that.
but it's a monkey on my back...I was set to be a straight A* student, and it all went horribly wrong. and though I later managed to get a triple distinction in BTEC ND Music Tech in college, I still feel like a total underachiever. doesn't help that Uni went horribly wrong as well.
been seriously considering getting all those grades at some kind of adult education place for a while.

Don't know how it works in the UK
But the grades some of you have here are nuts! How the hell do you get A*'s for even 50 percent of your units? Is it a big final exam or something? I managed 76 here in Canberra (you need 82 for Arts to get into best uni in Australia) and I was pretty proud. We don't have final exams here, so your final grade is an aggregate. Considering my average grade for Year 11 was less than 60, I think I did pretty well. Can't really say the same for uni but oh well.
mostly a final exam

I didn't do any more than that.
actually, I must have done more
I think I did food tech which I got a D as I dropped half of my coursework food when it came out of the oven. I was a clumbsy dumb teenager.
it was well shit
The class was funny though and my teecher hated me because I said to my friend that not even the strongest man in the world can break an egg by just crushing it with his bare hand....but then I crushed it wrong and it broke.
I made some weird cream and smoked salmon and spaghette combo for my coursework final thing. It was horribly bland.
I really regretted not taking food tech
it was the biggest pisstake ever. We had to design bred according to surveys we'd done and the '5 Scottish Dietary targets for 2005..' so I made up a survey about peoples favourite colours and types of oily fish and the teacher had to eat some blue mackerel soda bread or something.
All the schools round where I live didn't have a sixth form, just went up to fifth year
GCSEs were important if you wanted to go to a good college after school cos they had a minimum points entry thing. Do schools wot have a sixth form do that as well? If you did bad in your GCSEs were you still allowed to attend sixth form there and do A-levels?
mine had a 'minimum 5Bs' requirement
loads of thick people though
No, you needed five Cs at ours.
I thought that was standard.
If you were in our school you could automatically go to Sixth Form
But all the subjects had entry requirements.
We needed 5 Cs (including Maths and English)
to get in, but some subjects (maths and sciences) required higher. They weren't particularly strict though.
Imma play the 'I'm old so these grades really mean something, maaaan' card, too.

Tbh, I lucked out by being ill for one of the maths exams, and so getting a rather generous predicted grade.
Then again, I hardly ever went to school from year 9 onwards, and did no work at all (including the GCSE coursework) outside of the few classes I did go to. I then started A Levels, dropped out. Went back to finish them, dropped out. Started another course, dropped out. Started another course, ACTUALLY COMPLETED IT. Started university, dropped out*.
*degraded, technically - I'll probably go back I guess.
YEAH, I TOTALLY WIN AT MOTIVATION.
Tbh, I look at my academic and wonder wtf they were thinking when they accepted me into uni... seems a little too far into 'let's give them the benefit of the doubt' kinda territory.
It's clearly because you're passionate to the point of madness about your subject
Try not to lose sight of that when the course is getting you down.

what did you have to do for Resistant Materials guys
I got an A* in French & Chemistry then 5 As and 3 Bs.
One B was definitely for music and given that my performance piece was the guitar solo from Sultans of Swing it was far more than I deserved.
I think I did nine, there might be one extra one there
It was probably Resistant Materials or something.
Can someone please tell me
what the fuck 'Resistant Materials' is? I think you've all made it up.
The best doss lesson ever.
We called it CDT - Craft Design & Technology
Woodwork, metalwork, sometimes electronics, that kind of thing.
Ok, so it's Technology & Design then. Or CDT if you want.
Who the FUCK decided to call it 'Resistant Materials'?
Lucien
It was named after his glutes
Barely passed.

I got an A* in French solely because my teacher was a sexy lady and I hung on her every word
I also managed to get a C in Design and Technology, despite taking the Foundation course (in which a C was the highest grade you could achieve) and not submitting the coursework that made up about 60% of the grade. Either you had to do next to nothing to get a C or summat dodgy happened there.
I got a D in technology, my one blemish
The reason being I'm crap at making things so I took graphic design.
BUT THEN WE STILL HAD TO MAKE WHAT WE DESIGNED
I got the measurements wrong and the whole thing was a disaster.
Coursework was 75% of the grade, so I needed to get to get 100% on the exam to get a C.
Still, could be worse. My mate Mark put like £700's worth of materials into a vaccum former (I dunno what it was actually called) purely because he thought he'd get an A* for using the most expensive material. He bodged it, got an E, and almost bankrupted the D&T department

Interesting corelation between people not getting good grades thinking they're meaningless
Which is odd,
as those who got the worst grades (and who are more likely to have not done A-Levels or a degree), are those who will depend on them the most.
But then again, it depends on what you do for a job.
As an admin bore, I don't think my grades get looked at other than English.
They look at my Sec skills course and the grades I got there (all distinctions) and my office experience and my wpm (is 60 now but used to be 85).
Most people who have posted in this thread have done incredibly well but there are some of us, which seems to be only about 10% if this thread is anything to go by, that didn't get on well in school and find education difficult.
And even most of that 10% only did badly by DiS standards.
I love the fact that those who got a perfectly respectable set of Cs are seen as delinquents.
I don't think that anyone's saying that.
You are all such nerds.
nnneeeeeeeeeerrrdddsss
As mentioned upthread,
Resistant Materials is the part of Technology that used to be called CDT.
can't be bothered to read through this to see if anyone has said this already
but all replies are meaningless without the year you took them. (not this easy in my day etc)
or
people are only posting if they're particularly proud of their results
I think you underestimate how academically able the average DiSer
is/was, compared to the population as a whole.
^this
It's a self-moderated foruma dn also largely self-selected. We get very few new posters who aren't gifted or articulate in some way because we are so rude to those who aren't, and they run away, sobbing.

Nice use of full stop.
Or we make threads mocking their poor facebook performance.
I suspect if such a question were posed in a facebook status, the answers would be radically different.
Are you saying we're all spods?
no
we're all up our own arses, rude and cliquey.
Genuinely just scrolled up
to see if you were referring to Oxbridge graduates.
Aye.
I quite like the fact my GCSE's mark me out as one of the, probable anyway, 10% least academically able DiSers. I mean meths hasn't posted his yet but I quite like this new found 'thicko' status... I've been burdened with being DEAD CLEVER all my life.
That said, I went to a comprehensive which has now merged with another school owing to poor performance and used to have an on-site police officer (although not until the year after I left).
I don't put mine on my CV any more

So you have 5 science GCSEs?
Seems like you should be a mad scientist, not a journo.
yeah,
which is odd cos i hated science. My school seemed to just throw GCSEs at people who had any kind of academic ability. Think I got three of my gcses in year 10.
not offered at my school
nerds did Double Science. Others got to do Single Science with Rural Science. I remember watching enviously out of the window as people got to herd geese around outside.
:D
wonderful image.
didn't have the choice + i would have if i did. my school had this weird system where you did a joint double award for all sciences but then did a seperate one just for biology.
Surely the same could be said for those who didn't do triple humanities.
no
In my school they used up your options and I wanted to do IT, Geography and History.
Plus in my first week I remember being told that Single Science was actually harder because you had to achieve the same depth of knowledge as Triple and Double, but in a third of the time
That's not right.
We had the Single and Double lessons seperately (because Double science was one of our options), and the Single award covered completely different areas of the syllabus to the Double award. The individual subjects went further in all three areas.
Bullshit.
Fight me on the playing field at lunch.

I got a U in French O level
in my oral '100 questions' recording i imagine the examiner could hear my french teacher being unable to stifle his laughing at some of my replies (this is true....he really did laugh out loud at some of my answers)
and the other one i failed was german (I got a grade 2 CSE, it was the only non Olevel type that we did)
I was also banned from taking O level RE, despite it being compulsary for our school. I think they were afeared that I might cause offence, based on the state of my bible (most RE teachers and (I imagine) markers were actually christian back then.
I hasten to add that I was not the main culprit for the state of my bible, but I was known for allowing anyone who wanted to deface a bible to use mine,(If they had used their own they would have got into trouble), It also had a few illustrations in it which were also ,naturally, altered
so i wasnt good at languages
and yet i didnt seem to have many problems in europe with my smattering of french and german.
We had to do the following 5 as compulsary
English lit
English Lang
Maths
Physics
RE
plus a modern language, plus a humanity, plus another science
so i got
