UFC 141(Lesnar vs. Overeem)

wewerewerewolvesonce [Edit] [Delete] 8 replies 23:35, 30 December '11

I'm super stoked for tonights card even if I'm slightly conflicted over the main event as, whilst it's great to see Alistair Overeem finally making his way over to the UFC, I'm quite a fan of Lesnar's and I could see this being a very short night for him if he can't get the fight to the ground quickly.

In the co-main event Donald Cerrone who has looked fantastic since transferring over from the WEC takes on Ultimate Fighter winner Nate Diaz and the perennial contender Jon Fitch lists faces one of the most accomplished wrestlers in MMA, Johny Hendricks.

Rest of the Main card:
Nam Phan vs. Jimy Hettes
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson

Facebook Prelims:
Manvel Gamburyan vs. Diego Nunes
Matt Riddle vs. Luis Ramos
Jacob Volkmann vs. Efrain Escudero
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Sean Pierson

Spike/ESPN Prelims
Anthony Njokuani vs. Danny Castillo
Ross Pearson vs. Junior Assunção

  • Pretty much all of ^this.

Fitch woke up in 2012. I bet Dana was overjoyed. :D

The way UFC's luck has been recently I fully expect Reem to get busted for something and then all their plans to fall apart.

  • Safe to say one Vincent K McMahon came in his pants last night

    • Not really

Well, no more so than usual anyway.

Brock said if he'd won he'd go for the title shot then quit. He was never the favourite for this so it was a last post-op hurrah.

Will probably pop up in WWE again but doubt he'll be doing any Shooting Star Presses with that dodgy digestive tract of his. Probably a one-off programme to put over young up and comer Paul Levesque or something.

      • Undertaker, surely?

million dollar payday at Wrestlemania for a 25 minute match and a few promos beforehand, easy money.

        • Maybe

but paying for Brock and Rock at the same PPV? Poor business. 'Taker won't wait around until next WM either.

It'll be 'Taker v Kane this time round, Brock doing a 3-month stint later in the year or something.

          • Get it right

He is called Welder Kane now.

  • I should be happy as the cheeky wager I placed on Jim Hettes

actually worked out quite nicely (I can't believe he was actually the underdog in that fight) but I was so gutted at seeing Fitch get taken out like that. That said, if I was looking at any other underdogs to succeed Hendricks would have been my pick, the guy is an absolute animal.

I was also incredibly surprised that Lesnar didn't shoot for the double leg, perhaps he felt Overeem's strength in the clinch and thought he'd try a trip instead, sad as I am to see him go, I think Dos Santos vs. Overeem is a much better fight.

Nate Diaz really seems to have hit his stride in his second stint in the lightweight division just an incredible performance. Also very impressed by the mauler, four finishes in his last four fights is a serious statement to make and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up fighting for the belt before the end of 2012.
