According to her this is okay because "your Dad likes Bruce Springsteen". Is this racist or just weird?
confederate flag can be more of a tradition/heritage symbol than racist. quite a few black folks fly the flag in the USA.
Black people using the N word = that's alright if they want to do that.
White people using the N word = Big no-no.
Black people flying the Confederate flag = that's fine if they want to do that.
White people from an Army town in the home counties of England making a tapestry with the Confederate flag on it = bit weird, no?
Always thought you looked a bit like Heinrich Himmler Tom! ;-D
and down here, a lot of people fly the Confederate flag as a sign of their southern heritage and pride. There's even a group down here called "Sons Of the Confederate Veterans" made up of descendents of Confederate soldiers. However, many people are still offended by the Confederate flag and see it as a symbol of slavery and black oppression.
Like ottermagic said, Bruce Springsteen almost certainly does not see the Confederate flag as a part of his heritage. When I moved out of the south up to Massachusetts, I never saw a Confederate flag again. And yes, sometimes when I return home to Tennessee people call me a Yankee. I live in California now so fuck knows what they'll start calling me.
This was a long post but I have a lot of opinions on the Confederate flag, haha.
If so, 99% either know or care about it, other than the fact that the General Lee is a cool-as-fuck car.
