A DiS top 10 http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4144264-savage-pixels--the-top-10-multi-format-video-games-of-2011
What were your favourites?
That's an album.
All awesome. Like really, really good.
That was good
don't let his lies sway you.
Portal 2, LA Noire and Uncharted 3 have blown my mind this year. Still got to get Skyrim and Arkham City, they're on the xmas list.
Deus Ex and Skyrim, both were pretty damn good
Despite the annoying bugs and less than stellar voice acting (seriously, did they just hire one male actor and one female actor to voice all the characters?) nothing comes close to the complete video game experience it offers.
Honourable mentions go to Arkham City, LA Noire and Portal 2.
Still need to play Uncharted & Deus Ex.
For over 2,000 roles, I believe.
The guards just get teeeeedious.
but on the day of recording they all took arrows to the knee.
child of eden
super street fighter 4 AE
Zelda Skyward sword (hows this not in the list!?)
bit. trip. flux
So no dice.
Games exclusively for Wii won't count.
kind of explains why uncharted 3 isnt on there too... or forza.
**In the name of inclusivity, the games picked below as the best that 2011 had to offer are multi-platform choices. So there’s no Skyward Sword, and neither [Uncharted 3 or Gears of War 3] feature. The here-listed selections are available on at least two platforms – so, hopefully, they are capable (still) of reaching the widest possible audience. And they each deserve to. As for the late-year war games of Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3: I’ve not played them, so I can’t comment on their reported-elsewhere brilliance. So they don’t make my list – but, I’m sure, their presence on several others is indicative of high quality packages.
Really good. Can't believe how much longer it is than the first one. Despite this there is just something about it that is lacking in comparison, maybe the claustrophobic feeling, or even the genius in simplicity. Also, not sure about one of the voices - if you have played it you can probably guess which one (don't want to spoil any potential surprise for people who haven't played it yet). What it lacks though, it more than makes up for in scale - a lot of the puzzles (and there are LOADS) make you think for a while but none are unsolvable after a bit of a scratch of the head, and some of the scenery is wonderful - especially from the Cave Johnson bit. By my reckoning I should be finishing it in two more playing stints. I don't really do computer games any more, but this has been great.
Any more great PC games I should be investing in? Tell me about them...
And still haven't even unwrapped it after messing around on the Fallouts for ages and then getting FIFA and a DS.
Got a free evening tonight, should I give it a right old go?
I haven't completed a game in one sitting since finding Tony Hawk's 1 back at home a couple of years ago.
gives me flash backs of grudgingly still playing Abe's Exodus at half seven in the morning having started 17 hours earlier, just because it was the protocol to stay up all night at a friend's house.
Mario Party 5
Grand Theft Auto IV
I need to keep up with video games a bit more.
Managed to complete MGS2 in one sitting. Pretty proud of that. It is like 85% cutscene though.
I've spent the year belatedly getting into titles my iMac will run (Monkey Island downloadable episodes, Portal, Half Life 2 + add ons) and some iPhone titles that work pre-current iOS (Cut the rope, Sway, Drop 7).
Wii wise, a lot of the best games I played snuck into 2010 really but I have Zelda to enjoy over Christmas and DKCReturns.
So my game of the year probably goes to Xenoblade Chronicles, as it's lasted me about 6 months, has a brilliant score, was amazingly implemented for Europe (with British actors) and keeps improving the further I get in. Which is about 65 hours now.
Also, it looks amazing:
That's a film.
But it came out in 2010.
Dead Island - much funner than i was expecting
Orcs Must Die
sheesh, i dunno. not played most of the biggies and i bought loads more last year.
and also portal 2, obviously.
no other game has ever threatened to destroy my real life.
the DLC made it more of a 2011 experience for me. I guess the props go to Portal 2 and Deus Ex, then. Witcher 2 gets an honorable mention, and would be my GOTY if it wasn't such a fucking contrary game.
