  • Those wacky Democrat super PACs, what will they think of next

I like that they are running it becasue they think he is the only sane Republican, and so showing he's sane will put off primary voters.

    • I have little love for either of them tbh

but I was quoting TJ walker: http://slatest.slate.com/posts/2011/12/14/french_mitt_romney_attack_ad_video_american_lp_airs_ad_featuring_romney_s_olympic_promotional_video_.html

I don't think I'm crazy to say the Republican field is very, very weak, Ron Paul is okish, but if I were a voter I'd probably spoil my ballot.

      • Could you see any of them beating Obama in a more positive economic climate though?

        Events dear boy, events.

even if the winner does beat Obama, it would change my mind that it is a rather weak field. And I'll bet you $10,000 that they don't ;-)

        • For someone who agrees with me

          You're being very confrontational.

          • In 2003 the french fries in the cafeteria of the House of the Representatives were renamed freedom fries, in protest at French opposition to the Iraq war

How'd that one work out you pals?

but I don't think they will.

          • And during the 2004 presidential campaign, some Republicans accused John Kerry of looking French to portray him as elite, effete, and out of touch

            • ...

I think the point is that the Democrats want to bounce Republicans into not voting for Romney, because they are xenophobic and suspicious of intelligence.

              marckee @Masculinity | 15 Dec '11, 16:08 | X
              • So the Democrats are appallingly prejudiced, you mean?

                • cmon man about the best you can really extract is that theyre manipulative but then like

And during the 2004 presidential campaign, some Republicans accused John Kerry of looking French to portray him as elite, effete, and out of touch

                  so yknow like be nice
you should be pleased that theyre going in for this stuff
isnt this what you think politics is all about

                  • It was a tongue-in-cheek comment

              • He owns the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway

(after usurping Ian Hythe and Ian Dymchurch in a hostile takeover in the mid-90s).

He’s planning on building a second Channel Tunnel, through which his light railway steam trains will run. Hence the ability to speak French.

            • Not really surprising

There's been a series of Republican candidate debates on tv where they've just constantly bashed Obama. When the Republican candidate is set in stone, they'll start being attacked too, in a more focused way.

              s_p_g @james_ | 16 Dec '11, 13:06 | X
            • They only cite one poll, perhaps a rogue?

I'd be shocked if the odds really were 50-50.

              DaisyFlower @james_ | 16 Dec '11, 13:07 | X
              • The bookmakers don't think so

                Current odds of Obama winning

                Ladbrokes 4/5
                William Hill 8/11
                Paddy Power 10/11
                Betfair 10/11

                Nothing close to 50/50.

                DaisyFlower @james_ | 16 Dec '11, 17:18 | X
                • Hang on, I think I forgot how odds work for a second there

10/11 is almost 50/50 isn't it? Ooops, idiot.

                  DaisyFlower @DaisyFlower | 16 Dec '11, 17:19 | X
                  this'd this
                  • Yes, when in the past I've always used Betfair

So I got used to the decimals and forgot basic fraction maths!

I've really not been following things nearly as much as I'd like this time. I've not seen a single one of the Republican debates. Whereas four years ago I was sitting up watching CNN regularly and I already had a bet in on Obama.

                    DaisyFlower @james_ | 16 Dec '11, 17:55 | X
                  • Who cares?

Whether it's a Democrat or a Republican in the White House, it doesn't matter, since they are all the same.

The only one who seems different is Ron Paul, but I suppose their is no chance of him being even the Republican candidate for US president, let alone being elected as the next US president.

even a revolution would not help.

                    • since they are all the same.

You've not been paying much attention to American politics for the last few decades, have you?

                      s_p_g @bulletboy | 16 Dec '11, 15:52 | X
                    • I would definitely choose Ron Paul out of all the republicans

I don't think he will be the nominee, but he has a better chance than most people think.

I actually think he'll win Iowa.
