The problem with modern soup
All your fancy new soups which have sprung up in the last few years - your Covent Gardens, your New York Soup Companies, etc - are too ruddy big. 600g if memory serves. Now, I am a greedy bastard, but this is a lot of soup. Especially if served with a good hunk of bread, as it should be. So what's the deal? Share it between two? Because here's the thing: half of it is NOT ENOUGH. 300g barely fills a bowl. It looks a decidedly skimpy portion. Heinz tins and the like are 400g - the perfect amount. So why are the luxury soup companies bucking the trend and selling us unsatisfactory portions? SOMETHING MUST BE DONE.
