Whether that be in a negative or positive way?
All the people I worked on my student newspaper with, who are now on the Guardian, Telegraph, and New York Times, mainly.
Still, I'm doing it the indie way, yeah? YEAH? :'(
types at the Guardian and Telegraph. Some are good but there're a couple who clearly owe their position to something other than talent.
New York Times, really?
suspiciously nice niche for themselves
It's for the best that I don't.
who is an irritatingly successful musician. Absolutely love his musical output, but absolutely hate him for being quite as good as he is at life. still, he's clinically insane so I have the edge on him...
he was still a few years away from writing King Lear
though he was probably just about finishing up Hamlet
im going to look at the panda picture again to feel better
Apparently so are Ice Cube and Gwen Stefani.
So, yeah I'm doing alright too.
Pretty sure that I'm doing better than him at the age of 32.
*claps hand over mouth*
MY LONG KEPT SECRETNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Two more months and I'll at least be able to say I've done better than him, Jim Morrison, Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin.
One of my closest friends from school/housemates who is now my boss :D
You may be winning at the moment Gazza but my time will come.
and Frank Turner of course
“Whenever a friend succeeds a little something in me dies.”
Anyway, I've glanced at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1983_births and I don't know who half of them are, so I assume I'm winning.
YOUR THRONE WAS ABOLISHED DECADES AGO. GIVE IT UP.
also he's basically bald.
you massive cry-parade leftie tramp
Jury's still out
I'm winning because I'm not a massive bellend.
Plus Michael Carrick was born 11 days after me. I'm winning again because I'm not a massive bellend.
Jesse Carlson, American baseball player
Richie McCaw, New Zealand rugby player
Matthew Capiccioni, American professional wrestler
Haven't heard of any of those, so I'm doing fine.
Michael Owen came on to play for England and was younger than me. That was th exact moment when I stopped comparing myself to people my age and getting all emo about it.
Why the fuck am i not managing a premier league club?!?! :(
but 5 years wiser.
who is best known for being elbowed by Colin Hendry in an incident which would see the Scotland defender retire from international football.
He's doing better than me then. The best thing I've ever done is have sex with cat-race.
i would be losing but he lives in aberdeen, so i'm winning
You only have to look at my career path to see that worrying too much about box ticking objective measures of 'success' can more often than not take your eye off the ball and lose focus of proper goals.
My contemporaies from uni range from CEOs of listed companies to housewives/husbands. I wouldn't say I'm more successful than either group, and yet I've probably worried about this stuff more over the years.
people doing better than me generally just makes me want to try harder to up my game, so it's not always a bad thing!
I know I have a better bottom than my schoolfriends, which is what really counts.
<Goes back to squat-thrusts against filing cabinet>.
Have you seen my ankles lately? They're looking pretty svelte!
when he got nailed.
10/10 Dark Star reference
so there aren't any hugely, hugely successful people amongst my peers to bring out the emo factor.
Always think I'm doing alright compared to my friends in the same profession, but then I don't know what they earn....
My mum was married with 1 kid at my age so not sure how that compares to this thread.
there's no right answer to this i was just curious to see if people keep an eye on others of their own age, really, to give themselves their own goals.
Some do, it would seem, and lots don't!
and yet it's not really achievable for me right now. So actually, by my standards, by most people's standards at my age I'd bet, your mum is a hell of a lot more successful than me.
The point is, different people have different yardsticks at different points in their lives, and because we all move at different paces, age isn't that helpful an indicator, especially the older you get. (I am realising today, probably 2 years too late, that I am too old for this forum.)
like thats why success and stuff like that never bothers me because as long as I'm happy where I am, thats all that matters. I could be working in Tesco but if I'm happy with that, i'm happy with that and I don't feel the need to compare me with anyone else. (and this is what you need to look for)
I'm not someone who can be compared...maaaaaaan.
My current career fulfils the first but not the second.
or a baby
or a husband
But I'm happy with it all.
Turns out she's a porn star, i'll let you lot judge if she's more successful than me or not
but i don't feel bad because they have worked very hard to get where they were whereas i have just been sitting around eating white chocolate and listening to the rain outside so i'm happy for them because i know one day i'll be successful too. i think you should be happy with who you are and not who you think you could be although i know it's very hard to be happy with who you are
as long as you do not worship me like a guru because worshipping someone is never good because it makes you feel worth less then someone else and i do not want you to ever feel worth less than someone pickledoeuf. i hope one day you will be less pickled so you will be a lovely shining radiant egg that will produce the most beautiful chick in the whole world
i have had no success.
and has directed 2 feature films. Haven't seen them yet, but still.....
les amours imaginaires is a good watch. love the 'pass this on' scene
as for the original question... an old high school mate is a photo journalist based in china and has had his photographs appear on the cover of the New York Times. I don't think jealousy...i think well done kid.
He got ahead of me for a while, but I reckon I'm on top at the moment.
She's waaaaaaay ahead.
And I'm perfectly alright with that.
to be honest
He gets paid more than me. Has greater success in his chosen field than me. Has a chosen field.
He is however French and can't speak French. On the other hand I am English and can speak well gud Englisch.
Lily Allen, Louis Hamilton, Keira Knightley, Cristiano Ronaldo.
