O'Neill to Sunderland.
Euro 2012 groups are drawn at 5pm today.
Any other business?
This could feasibly be his last job then. It's a shame he was never allowed - or allowed himself - to stay at a club long enough to build a legacy :(
Surely that is more than enough for any man
I would have put him in his early 50s at the absolute most.
Guess it makes sense for him to go to the club he supported as a kid now he's got the chance. I wonder if he's given up on waiting for one of the biggest clubs to come calling.
Also, I think if you ask any Wycombe fan they'll tell you they're always going to be grateful for what O'Neill did for them. Though obviously it's not the most impressive of legacies in world football...
but he left us with a ageing team and a large wage bill so not much of a legacy there either. Still he got us winning the league several times and took us to the uefa cup final.
it's not just a north-east thing
We'll be in Europe before you know it!
This year's Championship level money masquerading as a non-league team Fleetwood Town will hopefully be beaten by Yeovil.
I doubt it though. :(
Everyone seems to think we'll get something, so we'll probably get hammered. I don't think we match up well against them regardless of form, we don't have the pace up front to trouble their back four. Also with Tiote out (again ffs) we might struggle to track Lampard/Mata. 2-0 Chelsea.
Truth is, we've been utter dogshit for either whole games or long enough periods of games to suffer for a few weeks now. I do rate Newcastle quite highly (literally the only thing I have to feel smug about in football right now is pointing and laughing at people who said they'd struggle in the summer or had made bad transfer deals) but I think it's also true that they have been very poor and somehow got away with it in a few games.
I can see Chelsea letting Newcastle get away with being poor.
Good for him.
It's obviously very unlikely that he'll ever be a Chelsea or even PL first XI player, but I do dearly hope that he has a decent pro career.
gonna be awful. Thoroughly expecting to be 3-0 down at half time.
Need to think about my stupid accumulator now.
O'Neill's going to take charge properly next week, so they should still be more of a shambles than Wolves.
At least that's what I hope.
1: Ukraine, Poland, Spain, Netherlands
2: Germany, England, Italy, Russia
3: Croatia, Greece, Portugal, Sweden
4: Denmark, France, Czech Republic, Ireland
Hopefully get the same here
Russia, Greece and Ireland please?
Is it 1990? Though they do have Poland in the 2014 qualifying
poland, england, croatia, france
I finally get to find out who I'm going to see in Kiev next June. I've got tickets for group D with seed 2 against seed 3, seed 2 against seed 4 and a quarter final game.
It would be nice to get England obvs but I'd be happy with Germany or Italy. 12 days in sunnny Kiev with a load of pissed up Italians and a bit of quality footie to watch is as good a holiday as any. If I get Russia v Czech Republic I might think of putting my tickets back on the Eufa website and getting my money back though.
You could get Greece v Ireland
that would be The Match That Killed Football
Then they'd have to at least learn to play before the knock out stages and if they went out of the group...well, who gives a shit, really. the only way an England team is ever going to really impress me now is if they played in a football stadium without exhibiting the general demeanour of men who'd been put there by Idi Amin for the sole purpose of being executed.
Really need 3 points after last weekend, and need to defend well because we have a crippled Radek Cerny in goal. I'd be happy with a point, and slightly worried they could beat us.
Barton's back though, so that's good news. Hopefully SWP is fit otherwise we're in trouble in terms of attacking spark
i.e pick a ball from a pot, to see which pot to pick a ball from, etc..?
Pot 3: Portugal > Croatia > Sweden > Greece
Pot 4: Denmark > France > Czech Republic > Ireland
Wouldn't put my money on a Rooney-less England beating Sweden in a competitve match. Or Portugal. Or Denmark.
3 is all much of a muchness, Portugal and Croatia aren't what they were a couple of years ago, Sweden and Greece are limited but organised and very seldom get beat, Greece especially
4 is more interesting. i say France > Denmark > Czech Rep > Ireland. i like Denmark but they have no strength in depth. Ireland can go in the "limited but organised" as before. Czechs, bit erratic, but again, lacking strength in depth. France have got lots of depth but a lack of outstanding players, though they're playing more like a team now than they have for years
as it included both Portugal and Norway.
They have several younger players coming through like Enevoldsen, Boilesen and Nicolai Jørgensen. And Bendtner usually delivers when playing for the national side.
in any case they're patchy: strong in some areas, weak in others, seldom play as a team. Norway are standard "fairly good" team
they do have yong players coming through - Christian Eriksen's gonna be the business. but they're not there yet, especially not depthwise
and he will have 8 months more experience by the time Euro 2012 comes along, including at least another 3 CL games under his belt.
Pot 3: Sweden > Portugal > Greece = Croatia
Pot 4: France (much better now than the Domenech-led shambles) > Denmark > Ireland > Czech Republic
the guy needs something to cheer him up.
That's 1 team drawn every 4 minutes (Poland and Ukraine are already placed in a group)
So his wife can attend both Leeds' and Newcastle's.
some lunatic has just offered him £450 quid for a signed gazbaz shirt.....
Not a good start for MOTD
Bets on how long the actual draw will take? I reckon thy can bash it out for at least 30 mins.
Hopefully you like Polish folk dancing
Why do precise? No idea.
could you try not to direct your thickness at me? Cheers.
I like them for some reason. Maybe its the colour... It's almost gold >_>
I believe I was the only person in the pub supporting them in the WC Final.
was what endeared them to me, if I'm honest.
Tabloids to get overexcited
All he groups look crap cos they've only drawn the shit teams so far
Start as you mean to go on.
Group B - ouch
What a group!
Group of death
'watch every game in Group B' well thats that sorted, not a bad group for England
If England played well enough to get out the group i'd quite fancy them to do Italy, much more so than i would against most of the other big sides.
They might be overdue a good one really after 2008 and 2010.
france and sweden should make for good games.
getting a bit sick of ukraine playing england, especially with the draw for the world cup, but it's always pretty good cos of knowing a lot of england fans etc. would be a lot more exciting if they weren't one of the most boring teams in the world, and with rooney out i wont even be hating them that much, i'll barely care.
plus being in the same city as england fans is gonna be pretty terrible.
aw well. will probably be amazing otherwise. whoever tops the group should get to the semis at least
