Brazilian GP/end of F1 2011
so, what do all think of the plans for next year ?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/15893254.stm
the first two races will not be live on the bbc. i am not sure about how well it'll work with highlights. and if martin brundle goes to sky i will be mega sad. and angry. him and coulthard have been amazing in the commentary box, the most enjoyable commentary team i've ever heard. and in F1 the commentary team are extremely important.
it's not like football where paying for sky would get you... i don't know, 100's of games ? AND, more annoyingly, i can't see pubs showing F1, ever. it's very much an armchair sport.
ANYWAY
button has driven really well this season hasn't he.
kubica won't be back for the start of 2012 :(
(this post may be a bit jumbled)
Yeah Button did drive well
It'll be fascinating to see how much the other teams can catch up over the break. I ought to google the new rule changes...
Gutted Sky are getting their own channel. The Beeb forum and race coverage were excellent this year but I fail to see how Sky can make a channel out of it. Also gutted that ill only get to see half the races. Still, half is better than none I guess.
Some sad departures today. Brundle joins Sky. Patrick Head retires.
Also, you'd imagine that was Barrichello (and maybe Massa's) last home Grand Prix yesterday.
Some great races this year and despite Vettels dominance some top racing. Canada will live long in the memory.
Brundle
is one of my favourite people in tv/music/anything at all
having anyone else in the commentary team will be a huge step backwards :(
i wont miss 'look but never stare'
New F1 Channel's only a tenner a month isn't it?
Bit of a pain, but not that huge a sacrifice for die hard fans. And whatever you think of Sky/Murdoch etc, they do know how to do sport.
Huge winter for Mclaren and Ferrari, they've shown they have drivers capable of beating Vettel, but the cars they've started the last couple of seasons with have been ridiculous.
someone told me that the F1 channel will be part of the HD package
so if you already pay for that, you automatically get F1
so kimi's back
signed to lotus renault
looking forward to more ice cream hijinks
that's 6 world champions on the grid now. i say next season they should just give them all a red bull and let the best man win
i've watched every single weekends qualy and race this season but i wont be paying for sky
Great stuff about Kimi, hope it's at the expense of Petrov though
Would be very harsh on Senna to boot him out when he's done so well since replacing 'quick' Nick, especially considering what a turd that car was in the second half of the season
Me neither
More out of principle than anything given that Ive never signed up to Sky due to a disliking of Murdoch. To do so given everything that's going on right now would be nonsensical.
Plus I bet that £10 is on top of the other £40 you have to pay. I'll stick to Freeview ta. Whilst I liked Brundle a lot, I think it could be time for the Beeb to resurrect having an Everyman fan alongside Coulthard. ITV's coverage was so dull when it had 3 techy pundits. It works ok with a savvy pit lane commentator and one driver but it could be a good time to get a more enigmatic speaker involved to balance things out.
With Jordan and Humphries proviing the laughs elsewhere. The latter has been a real pleasant surprise by the way...
I miss read that and thought Team Lotus (Carterham) had signed Kimi
Any way great news, solid driver and amazing character - F1 needs him.
Being that the Sky F1 channel comes with Sky HD means that will probably get it. A real shame for the BBC as this year's coverage of the F1 has been probably the best sports broadcasting I've ever seen.
*Caterham
It has been really, really good
Best coverage of a sport on terrestrial since I can remember
YESSSSSSS
can't stop smiling about this
my favourite driver ever.
gutted about Brundle but i wasn't entirely convinced by him as the lead, preferred him in the summariser role. but i was the only person who liked James Allen so what do i know
also i love Button
just a don
i don't think it will be so bad having 10 races on sky
It seems like a fair few of the sky races are on at stupid o'clock, which i wouldn't have watched anyway. And BBC will still have a 2hr highlights show, i.e. practically the whole race, which i would expect to still be presented to the same high standard they've had this season.
I guess it's a bummer if you like watching all the practice and qualifying though
Choice of lead commentator will be key for me
as to whether i persist with the bbc or just try and find a stream of the sky stuff.
I couldn't stand that legard guy they had for the first 2 seasons - made watching the races a really unpleasant experience. But the brundle-coulthard team was perfect
It's so bad
to have an almost perfect service in place, just for it to be chopped in half and served up with all the crap races, it's going to be very hard to stay with the momentum of next year without Sky and am hoping realistically that the BBC highlights programmes are worth it or you can just torrent the Sky races anyway (pretty sure they'll be up on sites within an hour of it finishing!)
Quite enjoyed this year despite the "Vet-ell" whitewash and dodgy gearbox-gate, thoroughly enjoyed Jenson's driving and Lewis's antics (he gave Massa a hug in the paddock apparently...awwww) and have been made thoroughly miserable by the plight of the Williams team, all that moeny and experience and they're no better off than the three rookie teams - of which I bloody expect more from them next year or they should just... give up. Any bets on which team may not turn up or who may have a surprising Brawn GP leap to victory for the first race next year?
Perhaps a small criticism is that with Pirelli tyres, KERS and DRS there at times was too much going on to reasonably expect coverage of, meaning the back markers didn't get as much attention and you felt like you needed some split screen coverage sometimes just to keep up...!
