And why do you have them?
Post pictures if you have any.
It didn't go ahead in the end!!!!
outside right upper arm, inside right forearm, inside left upper arm, left shoulder
because i felt like it.
is it done using white ink?
the lightning strikes on the tesla are white ink. it's not really finished, i need more shading inbetween the lightning to really bring them out, as they tend to disappear when you stand further away.
Those are both amazing. Also, do you post on the SA tattoo thread? I feel like I've seen the kraken one before. It's fucking great.
http://personal.nonblinkingeye.com/pics/birds.jpg <--- first tattoo. nice, but fairly unremarkable.
Is SA Something Awful? If so, I don't post on there...
You should check out the tattoo thread on there though. Some absolutely amazing stuff gets posted! Lots of octopus and squid recently (and the most ridiculously awesome HP Lovecraft sleeve imaginable).
I looked around at some ideas, I didn't like anything enough to have it tattooed forever on my skin unfortunately. I don't really like single pieces, if anything I'd rather get a sleeve or nothing. Oddly, the only thing I have thought of recently is a giant squid and a ship interacting in some way or possibly something reminiscent of Moby Dick, which one of the links above seems to illustrate...
Ignore the pale body etc etc etc.... http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/184130_10150250432982928_510662927_7369112_1367219_n.jpg
I'm sure Radiohead are going to be deeply special to you as long as you live. And when you're 50 yrs old, you're not going to think it's twattish or embarrassing at all to have that elegant, enduringly meaningful symbol on your chest.
I especially admire how you seem to appreciate the fact that while fashions come and fashions go, the pop bands that we listen to in our 20s stay with us forever and ever.
Why don't you fuck off.
It was my personal choice to get this tattoo. It's not shining directly on my face. It's a personal symbol, that will for the majority of my life will be hidden. I have quite intimate reasons for why I got it. It's not just their because I'm a Radiohead fan, it's a symbol and a reminder of a particular point in my life.
I don't want to get all stupid and emotional, but it's really out of order and place for you to say that. I haven't offended you, I haven't tried to and most importantly it's none of your fucking business.
...but has meaning to me beyond 'just a record', I second the 'fuck off'.
and i'm not sure if he intentionally spelt prodigy wrong on the page.
this is ridiculous: http://webhosting.web.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=300&linkpath=http://www.dave-t.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/alex.jpg&target=tlx_picow91
and this (thanks for getting me forever immortalised on your thigh dad, i was 12 and grew out of my puppy fat phase years ago: http://webhosting.web.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=240&linkpath=http://www.dave-t.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/DSCF3446.JPG&target=tlx_picd7xi
Which is why you posted a pic of it on the internet. For the responses of members on an internet discussion board.
I can understand you're all upset right now, but I hope you'll remember my comment when you're lining up outside the tattoo removal parlour in 20 years' time.
I've got some artwork from Meeting People Is Easy and 'I'd really like to help you man' in text below, because I love Radiohead innit. Photo taken a while back, had some bits touched up since.
Nobody needs to know about when you've had your 'bits touched up', mate.
Then maybe some dancing
My son's name and the date he was still born in Hebrew on my right arm, Hebrew cos we called him Noah. Want to get more. Too much of a wuss. And a lack of ideas.
i've always been too much of a pussy to get one
generally, fleshy bits are fine. bits near bone are...less so.
It's on the outside of my arm, and a lot, may have passed out briefly, but like I paid, I'm a wuss. Didn't help that the guy before me ran about 90 mins over, so I really built it up. Fiancee had hip name done on the back of her neck, and was fine though.
they looked alright, I remember them strangely enough. I really want some good tattoos though.
WARNING: This link goes to a t shirt site, BUT it is a picture of me and some of my tattoos...wearing a tshirt :)
I don't do dinner I eat supper.
you know the swearport on my iphone wrote that lovely response for you. It's about time I've found a practical use for it.
I need my big old man hands to carry all of these stacks of t shirts. I should be ripped, but I'm not.
so I didn't get any.
i get them because i like them.
If anyone asks what happiness is, just point them to this post.
on my lower back
Mogwai Batcat girl
65dos true/magnetic north
thinking about 2-3 more possible things to add soon
pretty envious of josh above, they're both amazing
Oh, apart from piercings. Fucking idiots.
and then thinking of the design. It should be the other way around. They should have something that means a lot to them and then get it tattood
I'd caution against them, unless you're planning on joining the ranks.
which is fine these days....you can have them on your chest if you like as long as they are not offensive
and my partner.
and when i go swimming. and when i'm just generally naked
Surely you'd have to like tattoos first to want a tattoo. I don't see the point that you've got something that means a lot to you so the only way to deal with that is having it printed on your body forever. If it really meant that much to you, you wouldn't need to have it printed on your body?
i know what you mean.
For me, I've always kind of liked tattoos. I always said when I was about 14/15 onwards that if i was to get a tattoo it would be a white rose and then that's just what I did, because the white rose is pretty meaningful etc etc
The reason I say this is because you hear people say 'i'm going to get a tattoo, but i just need to think of something' - i think if you decide you're definitely going to get one and still have no idea what you want it's a bit weird.
Also, whilst actually having a tattoo done, I saw people in the shop just like....'oh yeah i kinda want a tattoo, maybe i'll get that' (pointing at a picture on the wall) which just seems a bit pointless if it means nothing - if you like that picture now you might not like it in the future.
At least if something has a proper meaning then even if the picture isn't your favourite in the future the meaning will still be there. In any case the picture probably will still be likes because of that meaning.
It shows everyone that I really love flowers and will probably back down from any challenge because I'm a bit wet.
And probably fascist
And probably knife babies
368 behind the left and 59 behind the right.
I've also got a tattoo of my chest on my back and vice versa, to confuse predators.
which is funny now, but imagine still having that in middle age...
A stag skull on my right forearm, a velociraptor skeleton on my right bicep and a moustache on my finger (I regret that one).
These all sound ace
And a couple of close-ups for detail:
Done by this guy:
i really dig yours. is he one of those guys who will basically do as he pleases, or do you have any input into the design?
He pretty much just wanted to know placement, and if I had any vague ideas for a concept... then he drew on my arm for about an hour (occasionally wiping stuff off and starting again) until we were both happy. It was pretty funny though, he did half of it (all the thick-lined sections) and then I booked another session, but he's only in the UK twice a year and then he broke his wrist so I had about 8 months between first and second session... and when I got there he couldn't find the photo he'd taken of the drawing for the rest of it, I told him what he'd planned, and he said he didn't like that any more and was going to finish it in a different way :D
I totally love it and I trusted him to do something great, but it is a reasonably nerve-wracking way to get a tattoo!
As opposed to a lot of what's been said in this thread though, I feel like finding the right artist is probably the most important step. I really want one from Ryan Mason: http://ryanmasontattoos.com/
I also need a cover-up done, so my friend is designing something for me and I found a local guy whose stuff I really like:
some really cool stuff in those links too.
http://theryanmason.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/img_4568.jpg?w=450&h=602 = awesome!
I need to start saving... and move to Portland... :D
I have another i got when i was 15 on my shoulder.. which isnt as bad as it could have been considering. Its a heart with a kind of design going through and around it. Im going to cover this up with a shoulder piece going down my shoulder to my side. Its pretty faded now.
Then i want one on my foot going up my leg. I already have the design.
and then thats it. I really love Tattoos, when they're done well.
don't like them at all.
to represent my two nationalities.
What kind of bulldog, though? French? Or maybe American?
I don't have a picture of the colour though.
To all of you tattoo haters, I got a duck because it means something to me, even if I don't like it in the future it will remind me of the reason I got it done. If you don't like tattoos great, just shut up about it.
but are they really necessary as memory aiding devices?
But maybe I do.... so....touche?
everyone should be outward looking enough to get bothered by things that don't affect them, no matter how inconsequential
I just find it a bit odd that some people have tattoos because the content means so much to them and they never want to forget it.....rather than they like something and like the design and like tattoos and want it on their body.
I love tattoos but I am too scared to get one as I am very indecisive and would probably end up getting cat heads all over my body.
I'd thought of a concept and style, and then was able to work my family into it conceptually. Not that you'd know from just looking at it.
it should go:
concept - design - style - placement - tattoo.
I chose my concept (my school symbol of the white rose)
The design is obviously the white rose
I chose a grey shade style with white highlights instead of over using white ink
chose my leg
got it done
I just wonder about the apologists who say it helps remind them about an important time in their life. If it was important you remember it don't you? Or you could put a post-it on the fridge if you are a bit forgetful.
Just say - being injed makes me feel like a man!
I think people generally just get them done because they like tattoos. The concept is often born out of something that ''means'' something to them.
It's possibly a way of protecting oneself from future regret for some people. i.e.
- do you regret that tattoo?
- oh no man, it means so much to me.
I've only had one negative comment about my tattoo and it didn't bother me - I didn't get it for that friend, or anyone else...i got it because I liked it.
I would feel a bit silly if he said he hated it and it was on my forehead, but it's not.
At the moment I still really like it....in 30 years, sure I might not.....no one knows if you're going to change your mind in all those years time, but at least I can cover it up very easily. I'll just have to get over it and cry into a towel if i start to hate it.
but I don't know if that's because tattoos aren't as popular there or because its a flower and I'm a man.
I'm just imagining getting my school's logo near my crotch :'D
to be fair, it's not exactly my school symbol.....the school uses a tudor style white rose and I have a realistic black and white thing.
I think my penis can just about touch it though.
i've been loling at it since he got it at the age of 17.
It was based on some album artwork and I got it when I was hungover (still half pissed).
It was awful, and all my friends ripped the piss out of me for it. I was pretty gutted, but couldn't really blame them. It was shit and I knew it. It looked like biro, so I tried to have some more work done, and it went from looking like biro to marker pen. Fail.
Had it covered up with the big piece I had done recently. Pretty happy about that.
It looks rubbish. He also has a Static X tattoo on his back.
on the back of their neck
I don't really care to be honest, I like it and quite frankly anyone who doesn't can fuck right off :D
I try not to be precious about mine. But blanket statements like ''people with tattoos are stupid'' annoy me. As much as pretty much any sweeping generalisation does about any group of people.
I've generally only had positive comments about mine....because of the style and detail. It's unlike any other tattoo I've seen. My mates mum said it was hideous, but she said that without even looking at it because she has decided all tattoos are hideous. WHATEVS OLD LADY.
The mind boggles that one of the best band of all times has such a terrible logo.
are we talking the Kid A bear/minotaur or meeting people is easy shaking hands people?
has been successful in convincing people that to get a tattoo you need a stupid backstory about how you are doing it in memory of someone who died in a blimp accident, or to demonstrate that you have "been though some hard times" by having a koi carp tap dancing on an ace of spades. Just getting a tattoo because you want a tattoo seems much less... needy.
I like tattoos.
and tried to do the whole story thing....in reality though he was in and out of there in 20 minutes.....they're bloody good artists in there!
Was this recently? How old is he?
I like the idea of Dad's getting tattooed.
he is 45
with an eagle and a bulldog crying and making sweet love in the sky above
Sound fucking top
It commemorates my Aunty Mabel, who died in an extreme pond-gambling accident
