Im off to Berlin next week and wondered if anyone had any good record shop recommendations for when im over?
It's in Kreuzberg. Not sure what kind of music you're into but if you have an interest in anything electronic then check this place out. Most of the Berghain DJs have worked there at some point.
The Space Hall 9I think it's called that) has a ridiculous amount of ALternative vinyl Im sure would be difficult to find even in Britain, and is just huge, and has a good CD shop a few doors down which I think its affiliated with. Hard Wax is great though, I really thought it was an elaborate rape plan by some bastards at Lonely Planet when I wandered up the stairwell, but it's nice when you get there- they let you listen to the Vinyls which is sweet.
I also really like Oye in Prenzlauer Berg. Much smaller but always full of gems.
Hardwax is obviously legendary but can be weirdly sparse at times.
Is pretty great. lots of punk and hardcore stuff. Spent ages in there. There are loads of record shops in Berlin and they are mostly pretty good so you'll be spoiled for choice.
...where are you staying? There's three good vinyl shops on Kastanienallee in Prenzlauer Berg alone, plus Mauer Park on a Sunday worth checking out.
I wrote a bit about it here, it has a handy map too. (JAG warning)
Thanks for the replies, will note em down! Im staying just next to Kreuzberg, cant remember the name exactly!
