Him & Her
I've been properly loving it.
You haven't though, have you?
Go on, then: explain your wrongness here.
Or back me up on it being the best thing since other modern classics like Early Doors, The Smoking Room, and How Not To Live Your Life. Either/or.

all the characters are annoying
it's not funny
and?
yeah, it is.
naaah
i like the idea of it (real time, one location) and it's convincing and stuff but apart from that it's rubbish.
That thing with dawn french and alfred molina that wasn't really a comedy was good huh.
it's excruciating.
excruciating and brilliant.
haven't seen the dawn french and alfred molina thing.
do you like the characters?
or are we supposed to find them boring/annoying?
I like 'Him' and 'Her'.
How couldn't you? They just wanna stay at home and screw and watch tv. Nowt wrong with that, other than them being feckless at achieving much else.
Shelly's harmless. As is Dan (who's probably best when he's just mooching). And the way Shelly kinda pines for Dan, and and he's kinda receptive, but distracted is sweet.
Paul is obv vile. As is Laura. But she puts up with Paul, so there's a split loyalty in the viewer.
The parental interaction and comeuppance in the last one was great.
You know what no one is talking about at the moment?
Misfits. Even though it's the best thing on TV at the moment. It's been brilliant. The new guy (Woody from This is England) is excellent. I wouldn't have thought anyone could match Nathan, but he's excellent. Credit to all involved.
the second episode was amazing
the other two less so, the quiet guy is really bad at acting so kind of ruins the scenes he's in i think.
Also, apparently Russell Tovey is currently dating Gok Wan.
Imagine!
woah!
The her was fantastic in Psychoville
Not good enough to make me tune into that toilet
It's a collection of great actors,
and ends up being even better than the sum of those parts.
i watched the one with the badger calendar or ferret calendar or stoat calendar
badger
did you see the one with the fringe wash?
It's actually very funny.
No one needs a poo at this time of night!
Shut up and eat your banana
i liked early doors but it made me sad
especially the song at the end
Early Doors was /really/ touching in parts.
John Henshaw was ace as the landlord.
Apparently, 'He was a refuse collector for ten years before deciding to become an actor at the age of 40.'.
He was also really good in The Visit
That's a genuinely underrated show. Hope there's a second series to come.
I think it's quite well written but find Tovey so, so annoying and pretty much all the characters unlikeable.
it's ok, nothing more nothing less
much like those other shows you've listed.
Which reminds me. I forgot another recent great prog.
Grandma's House.
that was even worse than Him & Her
Strange wording.
But yeah, I guess it wasn't /quite/ as good.
Heh.
As if you're not a massive Two Pints fan.
I really hate this.
Its rubbish and unfunny.
It's scuzzy and great.
What don't you like about it?
a yo
fuck dat shit
oy
a duck hits fat
I really really like her
I find it so excruciating but so well done. I think overall I agree with you, wza.
This
It's uncomfortable, but still good viewing. And I always like Russell Tovey.
It's not as good as The Smoking Room though.
Loved that.
Strange to think that's already a kind of a period piece of sorts, now.
You get first dibs on the extra spaghetti nuggets.
Hi Wza
I like it, you're not alone. The first series was difficult to get into because it was soooo awkward but this series is properly excellent. Really, really good. Dan is hilarious
Yeah.
I wanna go and see some Joe Wilkinson stand-up.
My friend said the other day
that Joe Wilkinson really reminds her of me. I decided to take it as a compliment.
I really quite fancy Sarah Solemani as well
mitts AFF!
she is mine.
Pics or GTFO
Back of the queue, sunshine...
...back of the queue.
Whatever happened to BigRadgeDoug?
best username on here <3
i love it
him and her remind me of myself and mrbass in a few ways. terrible i know.
Dan <3
Would I be allowed to suggest that maybe this is one...
...of those shows you tend to enjoy when you are a bit older and have a bit more life experience? It probably would have bored the tits off me when I was younger but I love it. I'm 32.
Just putting this out there.
Possibly.
I'm the same age.
But how/why do you reckon that? Rose tinting?
I reckon there's good subtlety in it. But maybe I'm a div, and it's not so subtle to others, and therefore a bit meh. Or maybe it's there, but passes them by.
I dunno
Maybe we are distant enough from that lifestyle and those people that we can recognise bits of ourselves and elements of our past but with enough time inbetween that we can laugh at what we recognise of ourselves.
I don't think I've ever written a more incomprehensible sentence.
Just because.
I'm 26
Maybe I'm wise beyond my years
I do have a lot of grey hair
it's not an age thing
im 28
im not too sure what it is. I just like real life humour. Find it easy to relate to the couple and their 'problems'.. having to deal with weird neighbours. Meeting the family. Always knowing what the other is thinking.
Loved when the ex came round with the CD :D thought that was done really well. And Dan stealing everything in sight.. and his 'girlfriends'
She fucked her uncle?
Women.
First series was pretty good
but the second series has become a bit boring and repetitive.
Given the nature of the show I dont think it has much room for development and some of the characters feel a little one dimensional.
Also I think the first series the two main characters were quite funny and believable but second series they seem to have crossed the line into cliche and caricature.
I like it
i also liked grandma's house
maybe it is an age thing, as I am 32 too...got the patience to enjoy the more gentle/subtle comedy, kind of shared experience humour rather than HE FELL OVER/SHE SAID CUNT/OOH LOOK A BARE BUM
Yeah but how long
Till we start wryly smiling at fucking My Family or some shite like that.
I'm sticking on The Thick Of It - I'm still young and vital!
I'm weak to My Family.
It's my 'Friends'-esque dodgy guilty comedy pleasure.
The Thick Of It = young and vital?
first series' of my family were good
until they brought in the daft cousin and got rid of that bloke to the BT ads
true.
I will say this for posterity
'Friends' is a good sitcom. Some very poor episodes but some very funny ones.
I know many people who disagree and I don't think they are wrong; they just don't appreciate it - fair enough, I can see people finding the characters a very irritating.
But anyone that thinks 'Friends' is a dumb, poorly written comedy is not using their eyes and ears properly.
i'd never say it was poorly written comedy as such.
i've laughed at it plenty.
but i kinda find it /too/ well made. sometimes that predictability works, sometimes it grates. definitely slick, though. but 236 episodes was pushing it. even the best u.s. sitcom evah, roseanne, wasn't faultless for 222 eps.
Mostly agree with that
British sitcoms have it easy churning out an 8 episode series rather than a mammoth 22 episode season.
Himsmash
the writing is really really contrived, forced and just bad
it is not a good show
:-(
i thought you were one of the good guys.
I like the little inane details they get right
like him faux-humping her in the kitchen while cooking. On the other hand, the auxiliary characters are usually pretty poor, e.g. all of their parents, and I know it's kind of the point but Paul and Laura are SO unlikable they actually make me want to switch off when they have too much screen time.
Basically, him and her - great, everyone else in the show (bar Dan) - bit shit. Would enjoy it more if it was just the two of them milling about the house rather than throwing dinner parties, etc. (maybe I just haven't seen enough of the right episodes).
The latest episode was a classic.
Just them. With a smidge of Dan.
The whole 'meeting for the first time' flashback thing was great.
Can we make this a Misfits thread?
It's still good. Especially now boring guy has left. Scary rabbit was scary. Not seen this week's ep.
The christmas album is good
nm
:D
It's just like watching a new couple talking in baby voices to one another, flirting and tickling
i.e. not funny and a bit irritating.
i didn't even realise there had been a new series of this until i read it in the paper
i guess it's all on iplayer for me though so that's nice if i remember
oh hey
the 'friend' i mentioned here is now my gf so that's nice innit!
