How to have a normal conversation with someone.
So, it came to my attention recently that I really really struggle when it comes to talking to people. There are probably 4 people at university that I can have a proper conversation with, and out of a group of about 13 friends, I am definitely the person who just sort of sits in the background. To be perfectly honest, I'd quite like to get to know everybody better and be able to sustain a conversation with people. When I try to make an effort however, nothing comes to mind. I have but 2 conversation starters:
So, hows life?
Got anything interesting happening in the next few days or so?
The amount in which I say these is making me seem a little creepy really, which obviously i don't want. I can sometimes discuss music with some people, though nobody really has similar taste to me, I can't really get into a deep conversation about the progression of Korn's career, so it normally doesn't get too far.
I have told people all this before, but responses range from laughter to "just be yourself" and "let it flow naturally", which make no sense whatsoever. I just cannot think of ways to start a conversation with anyone, and struggle to continue on with conversations that already are happening.
Does anyone else suffer from this? At the very least can someone give me some sensible conversation starters which I can at least attempt to use? Sorry I'm posting all this here, just hoping the internet might pull up some answers.
