Skyrim
So I started playing it yesterday and I can already see it eating my social life and turning me into a bed bound whale.
Who else is playing it here? Opinions?

I will probably get it soon and it'll be absolutely wasted on me
I played Oblivion for a bit and it did nothing for me, I don't like elves and trolls and goblins and all that lot, if the same exact game was set in space or something instead I'd be all over it though.
that's a good point
when are they just gonna fucking get down to it and make a Colony Wars for the next gen consoles. We need a decent game set in space. I'd even settle for a Wing Commander.
mass effect?
can you fly spaceships and have big lazer battles in space in MS?
if so i'm in
ME I should say
Na it's more like a TPS shooter and a RPG mixed together.
Amazing game though. It's a must buy if you ask me.
And the sequel is even better.
4 REALZ.
I'm always mixing up MS and ME too
They should just remake X-Wing.
*X wing Vs Tie Fighter
That was a wicked game.
sounds good
is it better than Star Wars rogue squadron on gamecube?....I used to like dismissing my other fighters (in certain scenarios) so I could take on all the ties myself
no
i just finally properly got into Fallout 3 (after restarting it for the third time).
i'll wait until Skyrim is in the sales.
one of my old school friends had already notched up 27.5 hours on it by 2am Sunday morning though. (Steam stats.)
I know that feeling.
I need to restart New Vegas again, I didn't get deep enough into that game at all.
New Vegas is great.
I've done two playthroughs for two different endings and I fully intend to do another two for the other endings. Post-apocalyptic wild west is probably my favourite setting in anything ever.
It was great but I just got distracted and put it down...after a month I just forgot about it!
I need to dedicate a month of life to that shit.
Hello
Im up to a lv13 Nord assassin (not optimum but its starting to tear shit up now). Its incredible. I was a bit dubious to start with as I liked Oblivions grassy meadows and generic fantasy but the icy, mountainous setting has been done beautifully. Also, stuff Id never noticed being bad in Oblivion such as the same old dungoens has been replaced. SO theres towers, caverns, caves, etc that are much more naturally incorporated into the landscape. Its amazing, it really is. Also, they dont have those FUCKING OBLIVION GATES
which were more annoying
oblivion gates or cliff racers?
Oh those fucking cliff racers, youve dredged up a forgotten memory!
At least you could just levitate away or something instead of them being THE ENTIRE MAIN QUEST GATE AFTER FRIGGING GATE
You know that bit where you have to literally go to every city and shut down their Oblivion gate?
I later found out that was optional. You can just ignore them but you won't get that city's support in the final battle or whatever.
I cried a bit when I found out.
WHAT?
I feel like I wasted some of my life. :(
The Oblivion Gates
Were like scabs no amount of picking at could remedy. Even once the buggers were closed the scars remained. And they all looked the same. I fucking hate(d) those things. Never finished Oblivion.
GOD I remember Cliff Racers in Morrowind.
Hard to decide to be honest.
got too many games to play 1st -
battlefield until at least after christmas, then batman, then assassins creed, then skyrim. and try and fit in gears of war 3 as well.
I played Oblivion for like, an hour, twice, never got into it
30hrs into Skyrim. Wowzers.
Skyrim really is a vastly superior game.
I put down Oblivion many times, but I got addicted to Morrowind. I think it's going to happen all over again...
just started
Dark elves look suitably badass so I just had to be one. Think Ivan the terrible meets rasputin with added warpaint.
I had to go for a dark elf too.
Albeit one with daft hair.
what's the difference between a wizard, a warlock, a mage, a sorcerer & a magician?
up his sleevies!
is it like Fallout?
because i'm not really fussed about Fallout
yesterday i made everyone on here agree with me
that it's Fallout but with swords.
bugger that then
Only 15 hours on my save file so far
I wish I didn't have a job and other commitments.
It's AWESOME. There's really very little I can complain about, namely the third person view, patchy animal glitches, and horse travel isn't worth bothering with after months of Red Dead Redemption. BUt that's about it. It's well up there with the best game worlds I've played in, and I've only explored a tiny corner of it.
Isn't the point of these games
that you name your character 'Brian' or 'Reginald', for the inevitable 'BRIAN! IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU CAPTURE THE ANKH OF GITH'ERMAAR' lols?
or GIMPAZOID
full caps.
^ Ooh Matron!
is a good one as well.
Mine's called Amildor
I thought I'd go well Lord of the Rings. He's a Bretton, level 5, I'm aiming for a kinda spell sword with sneak dude.
Craig David
My friends wood elf. Is called Tiger Woods. We have 0 imagination.
Ailhron Hubbard
Steven!
can you get really ridiculously good at jumping like you could on morrowind
twatting a guard in the back of the head and then diving accross the suran river is one of my all time gaming moments.
Theyve taken athletics and acrobatics out of the game
so I wouldnt think so? It was pretty crazy that youd struggle to climb a rock then 10 hours laterr you could clear it with a swift jump. Ahhh Morrowind.
ah that's bullshit
morrowind was just perfect, i was on the verge of tears the day my save file got corrupted, not played a real console game since.
Get this, the feel of the game is VERY similar
You wont regret it, I promise you :)
Hello
Craig David
Dark Elf
Level 15
Play time - 10.5 hours
Pretty much at the end of companions questline now, havent really touched the main quest.
Also I'm a fucking warewolf.
How do you get to be a fucking werewolf ?
You get the choice if you do companions - go join them in Whiterun
It's a very stabby questline.
I just joined them in fact, I got distracted by the main quest line though.
I need to get back on random quests but I really wanna know what the grey beards look like.
Have one guess what they look like.....
Well I know they have grey beards but...
I'm a fucking werewolf. AWESOME.
my housemate (thesoundof...) has just started playing
looks a bit silly to me.
just got properly into FFXIII. sure its better.
SKYRIM >>> FFXIII
my level 3 crystarium says differently
CHECK OUT MY TRI-DISASTER PARADIGM
aaah i give up
Not sure how far in I am.
Think I'm a level 8 archer type, though adept with blades.
Much prefer the lack of character creation in this- not fretting too much about levelling up the wrong skills n that like in Oblivion.
How are people doing with alchemy in Skyrim? In Oblivion I used it a lot- but haven't really done too much in skyrim due to a lack of discovering properties of ingredients, and needing to be near an alchemy table..
Enjoying smithing though, managed to build enough chumpy weapons to buy a house.
Alchemys more difficult
but I quite like the mechanic overall (Its the only bit I used the guide for so far as the poisons are ESSENTIAL). Cooking is awesome too
Ooh, which guide?
Been struggling to make poisons as I can't find the damage health property..
Its the official strategy guide thing
If theres anything you desperately want PM me and Ill let you know (later tonight though) what you can use. IF YOU WANT TO BE A BIG CHEATER ;)
I just use alchemy to get rid of shit in my bag/level up
Mage, so only really use magicka pots
lv16. Most enjoyable thing is sneak dualcast firebolting with the impact perk, it just sends enemies ragdolling off cliffs or whatever. FUN TIMES.
Impact perk eh...
This sounds like fun.
with the fully upgraded force shout
the same works with giants :)
I think I can safely say it's my favourite game ever...
Move over KOTOR.
KOTOR has moved over 5 movement units
Wait, don't I get an attack of opportunity?
my sons have been playing it like a tag team since they got it on saturday
my eldest seems to have a ball of fire in his left hand and a ball of lightening in his right......Like a typical dad I asked him how he can empty his bladder
excellent
great dad question.
I'm playing a wood elf assassin type
at about level 10 or so at the moment, One housemate is playing as a sneaky dark elf, and the other as a full mage dark elf, the skill tree is great, much better than how it worked in oblivian, the dark brotherhood initiation was so so so rad, the thieves guild looks fun (the armour is cool) I've not joined yet though, just seen my housemate do it.
Are you playing in a party together?
You can do that?
no we all have different saves.
I have no idea if you can.
I just presumed it would have that aspect in it if it's all about being a proper RPG.
NERRRRRDDDDDSSS!!!!!!!
:o
http://d24w6bsrhbeh9d.cloudfront.net/photo/610959_460s.jpg
:'D
will probably get it soon
oblivion was shitty and dull so hoping to see the world improved.
The graphics are technically a bit shit.
But the detail they put in to the world and the little touches and the wildlife and all the dungeons and random encampments and things to find make it probably the best RPG I've ever played. It makes Oblivion look like more of a steaming pile.
I walked into my first blizzard last night
pretty awesome.
I'M only a level 2 Redguard at the moment. So far I've just mooched about doing a few of the misc quests I've picked up.
I'm liking it.
Loved Oblivion and Morrowind kicked ass too
this game makes me wish I had a console again
I downloaded it on what, saturday?
And put around 20 hours into it over 2 days. Help.
It is fucking brilliant though, that's all there is to say. I never really liked Oblivion, but this is on an entirely different level and the world is lovely to just explore. I keep finding things, and I've barely got through a third of the map!
Playing as an Argonian with no magic, because magic is for little girlymen who can't draw a bow or slap things properly with a sword.
By far my favourite quest so far was after I started a drinking game in Riften, and if you've done it, you're bound to know that was ONE HELL of a session.
I think he means hes not using it purposely?
Im doing the same, just making potions, poisons and food like a real RPG character :(
I might learn all the bards songs from the inns and that and form a band to cover them.
...but the magic is so awesome looking!!
It's certainly a lot easier to find magic weapons in Skyrim. I've found that going in full magic on dragons is a recipe for getting your arse handed to you on a plate.
That's all I have done so far.
Frosted 'em up good and proper... then LEGGED IT. Repeat.
Also
Just equip Ward one side if ting's getting hairy. OR switch between dual cast destructive magic and Ward/Healing.
Not a bad idea, I've just got ward from Winterhold.
It's (literally) a life saver.
I've just got the Ice shout I might pussy out and turn him into a block of ice and leg it.
I'm starting to come up against some really tough shit now at level 15.
Yes, but I prefer hitting things
Or using my bow. I don't know but I find it funny killing a dragon with bows, they end up looking like a novelty pincushion in the end.
not enough character stats itt
name: Tyrson Vikerness
race: nord
level: 12
combat speciality: marksmanship and destruction
I FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME.
also
morrowind >> skyrim >>> oblivion
This, to the stats bit
Just started a new game of Morrowind
to avoid having to buy Skyrim for a while.
only 2 hours in
Name - Effalot
Race - High Elf
Level - 1
No real speciality yet but aim to be a beast at magic.
Spent some time finding the mine, walking round the wilderness and the first village, smelting a dagger n shit.
Name: Vikernes (the name is entirely unrelated to anything)
Race: Argonian
Level: 20
Speciality: Archery & slapping your face with a shield if you get close. Light armour. Sneak.
Should add that i have 26 hours by now
I was absolutely loving it
Until my PS3 got the YLOD on Saturday. I have been genuinely depressed ever since.
I know no-one cares
But I was joking about the "genuinely depressed" thing. It's not that bad, just annoying.
I don't know, I'd be upset.
The joking of "goodbye social life" before release is worryingly true
perhaps worse is the lack of work i'm doing too.
But screw all that, im about lvl 20 high elf, mainly using a sword with destruction magic and a bit of conjuring in the other hand.
Far too addictive
So THIS.
I'm not out this weekend because of it, well that any I'm broke. I used to work every evening, now I slay dragons. Man card earned.
shout at the cunt
then stab him in the neck with your biggest knife.
^ standard advice for dealing with any confrontation
in game or IRL.
Good and bad things about being unemployed
I spent all night playing skyrim/spent all night playing skyrim.
I need to do shopping and chase up a job today ffffff
I'm a lvl 11 now, got myself to the College of Winterhold last night.
Great story lines already, I had no choice as I got my arse wooped by a troll on the way up to see the greybeards. I decided I needed to be more nails.
I'm looking forward to a weekend of this.
that troll on the way is fucking tough
I just ran away like a little girlyman
First time I went up there I had that troll AND a dragon attacking me.
I've got a fire dragon shout now, I might be better off. I'm scared.
Huh?
I'm up there now... Didn't see no troll... Or DID I? A 'frost troll' or something? Maybe cos my FIRE MAGIC IS AWESOME, it didn't get a finger on me. Also I have a companion at the mo who is badass and hacks these suckers down.
Did they (he/she? Mine is a she) die?
This one just hacks peeps up. Though TBF we've not been in any serious combat for a while. The odd band of bandits that we've robbed. And some soldiers - I'm not taking sides, Imperial, Stormcloaks, I'mma kill 'em all.
I used my wood elf power and made it like me, then legged it.
Did he try and hug you?
nar, it just kinda stood there looking at me like an idiot.
I just jumped up on a high rock
then shot him up with archery.
Toughest thing I've had to face so far- apparently fire is lethal to them but it didn't work as much!
What I've found useful is a 'staff of paralysis'- if I'm having any problems, whip that out, stun them then stab em up for a bit!
My friend was doing a vegan playthrough, but gave up when he realised the health potions aren't vegan friendly
anyone joined the bards college yet?
a vegan playthough?
come on now, please don't let that be a 'thing'
It's not unless you're him
It's just like plaiyng everything on super-hard mode. It'd of been ok if it weren't for the potions being made out of butterfly wings and stuff.
Vegan gaming...*facepalm*
But he would have to be naked through the whole game
All the armours use leather.
theres your rags
that you start off with.
We were allowing him heavy armour
as it's mostly metal.
this...
:)))
So, Companions guild is finished
- well, to a certain extent. How do i join some of the others?
get yourself to riften and join the thieves guild
I found out the hard way that it's better to complete the thieves guild before you complete the dark brotherhood...
Noted...
Whereabouts are the Dark Brotherhood based?
just outside the most south western city
but to join them you have to talk to someone in whitehelm I think it is
if you talk to any inn keeper they should have a dialogue tree that leads you into it
Cool, will check it out.
I'm a bit of a stealthmeister at the moment, so could use the dark brotherhood armour.
Thanks man.
thats my evening sorted then!
How do I join? just pickpocket shit?
dammit
My computer has a hissy fit every time I try to play and just gives up after 10 minutes with a whiny overheating restart.
I'm all sighed out.
massively fucked on the PC
quite irate about the whole thing.
Obviously rushed out to please the slobbering brain-dead console market as are most big budget titles, but I mean even fundamental stuff like the menus are full of bugs.
thank you, Bugthesda
This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3?
This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3? This or BF3?
Can't make this decision.
then you don't deserve to be in this thread.
SERIOUSLY?
What you're asking is, "single player or multiplayer?"
BF3 is the years best multiplayer. If the reviews are anything to go by this is the years best single player.
So, do you wanna play on your own or with friends/random people?
There's your answer.
I've decided on this, will buy after I've completed Deus Ex: HR
So this game is amazing
I spent five hours last night walking around with an sword in my right hand and a fire ball in my left. Killing everying that came near me.
I am one of those nord guys which I regret a bit now, I should have been a cat dude.
why nord rubbish?
because nord is a bastard man
The boosted skills they have aren't really how I play the game
Plus they look a bit basic.
You could start again? I know it sounds mad but 5 hours in that game is nothing haha.
I did think about it
But it's not the end of the world to carry on. My magic is up pretty high already and maybe I'll used the two handed weapons at some stage, I just find them a bit slow.
Great game so far though, I'm enjoy the story as it unfolds (julk killed my first dragon), think now i'm going to just mooch around more and explore.
You can a perk to speed them up!
I'm doing the mage's guild quests at the moment, really interesting. MUCH better than Oblivion's.
Yeah i'll do that methinks
Is there a finite ammount of leveling up I can do? Or in theory can I be level 100 on all attributes (albeit with hours and hours of lonely, closed curtain living)
You can get to level 100 on everything
but there's a limited amount of perks in the attributes tree
Is there a limit to what overall level you could be?
I know on Oblivion there was a top end.
I think 50 is the top level you can be
Thusly only ever getting 50 of the perks.
Good point.
I found one of these last night: http://images.uesp.net/5/5d/Chaurus.jpg
They are totally fucking nails. Even going in as a werewolf they screwed me up :'(
I have played a grand total of 2 hours since sunday night :(
even though i'm working today I seriously considered pulling an all-nighter last night to get some hours put in because i won't be anywhere near the playstation for a few days. I went to bed at a reasonable hour and i feel worse than i would have done had i stayed up!
Also a bit of music from skyrim keeps playing in my head over and over. You know the one i'm talking about.
played for another hour last night
im now level 2... really not sure where to use my perks on the constellation thing though :/ anyone got any ideas? Am I best of saving them until Im at a higher level?
I saved a couple of mine until I knew how they'd best work for me
I'm now the daddy of destruction magic and one handed weapons (well as much the daddy as one can be at level 7)
I haven't used any of my perks yet
SAVING EM UP / INDECISION
But *I* wouldn't use them on the main ones at the bottom of the tree (0/5), because i think you can pay to train in those...
Oh, you can pay to train in those? Where from?
I've hung on to a couple of perk points though (haha) as a lot of the better ones seem to get unlocked at level 30 and upwards.
quite early on in the first little place you stop at
during the daytime this guy offered to teach me how to shoot my bow and arrow, near the lumber cutting yard where you're sent on your quest to riverrun. Not got far enoug hto find anyone else just yet.
The Companions have both 2 handed and single handed weapon trainers
I just found some tastey spells.
Doesn't matter how many times I read the name 'Skyrim', it still sounds fucking grim.
that's because you're a terrible pervert
Yeah? Away and skyrim a granny!
Killed my second dragon last night.
Outside Riften. Just thought I'd swing by the place so I can fast-travel later. Picked up a pair of side-quests while I was there... something about a horse? That can wait - I've got bandit lairs to clear.
But dragons, yeah: two down, and neither was much of a challenge. I GUESS they get harder? Or am I just getting lucky? Last night it landed in a forest (well, in some trees) and didn't want to fly away... so I just flanked it and blasted it with ice from behind... went down in what seemed like seconds.
just did my 3rd, yeah they seem really easy?! There was also a fairly set pattern.
Hope it gets tougher / more epic.
I did read that these battles become a bit repetitive.
Still: DRAGONS!
Don't get them in GTA.
I've just killed my 3rd myself, I'm still finding them tough.
They are really hard to kill when they are in the air. Any tips to get them down on the ground?
Just whittle down the health.
When they hover for a bit you can stick them full of arrows.
I've not touched a bow :(
Are you still able to play the game or is that it?
see, that's why i ignored your earlier question
spoilery mcspoilerton of spoilertown
Someone named their kid Dragonborn.
Oh dear: http://kotaku.com/5860372/these-parents-actually-named-their-kid-dovahkiin--dragonborn
what an ugly kid
He looks like hellboy.
Gaaaaaaaaaaah
I REALLY want to have a crack at this game but what with the marking and the reading Harry Potter to the daughters etc I have far more 'games left to play' than I have available gaming hours in a week.
I'm still wading through Crysis 2 (and I've got other old half completed games backed up). It's good and all and it looks very pretty but I wonder if I should just sack it in, send it back to lovefilm and get skyrimming?
on PC? no
wait for patch
nah 360
like I said I have limited time for games. I'm very much of the 'put the disc in the machine and then play the game' mindset.
You'll need to be investing the time in this one!
You are right
should probably wait until the holidays / when I retire
LOOT MY DEAR BOY LOOT
i'm going to purchase this game in the next couple of weeks.
when i get my week off work. Not sure what to buy it for though ps3 or xbox, whats the difference?
According to this article, xbox is the way to go
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-face-off-skyrim
Anyone seen this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xE4uzGaQDQg&feature=player_embedded
Downloaded this for PC
Can't get a smooth framerate so don't feel like playing it
I just decapitated someone. BEST.PERK.EVER.
Ok I've just bought this
What is a good class to choose? I'm thinking of going all out on magic
you don't really choose a class in this game
it moulds around how you play it. if you decide to focus on archery for combat, be warned that it's utter shit until you get some perks around level 50 archery
I see what you mean.
I think it's better like that. I'm gonna put my perks into destruction magic
I have now played this for 5 hours and am level 8
archery cunjouring and destruction
20 hours over the weekend
decent session.
I'm scared to look how many hours I put in on the weekend.
I'm lvl 22, starting to become rather a rather bad ass wizard with my Archmage outfit and scary mask.
minor bitching about the UI on PC aside...
Best world design I've ever seen.
Greatest RPG ever, no doubt.
Couldn't agree more.
I already want to play it all over again and I've not finished it yet.
26 hours in total.
Not sure how this is possible given the 45 hours I worked in the week?!
Anyone on PS3 experiencing this?
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/326757/video-skyrims-ps3-lag-exposed-are-you-suffering/
My PS3's still got YLOD so I wouldn't know.
To be honest I've had a few moments on my Xbox that have been
insane on the lag, it happen in certain spots strangely. I restarted and it wasn't so bad though.
not yet
but ive only just killed the 1st dragon
couple of good PC tweaks here
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/elder-scrolls-v/1212293p1.html
32 hours.
I am the arch-mage now, and a bard, rock n roll.
Is it worth being a bard? Just started the missions.
I'm an Arch-Mage, that outfit is awesome.
dunno just got it last night
the mission was quite cool
can I change my appearance?
Im level 8 so I dont really want to start again.
but i want to make my b***s a bit bigger
I think you are stuck with that bit!
that was just me joking
what i want to do is to change my warpaint, I've met a band of fighters and a lot of them seem to have the same warpaint.....I wanted to stand out and be an individual with my warpaint.....also i think that I opted for a bit too much dirt at the beginning
Why would you want to make your balls bigger?
because my name is felix
whatever you do
dont talk to the jarl of winterhold before completing the companions quest. if he asks you to get his stupid helmet it bugs out and you cant do one of the later companion quests :(
Walked into a cave
Bandits sick on you and says "werent expecting THAT were you?"
Running through a camp on a hill
firebolting bandits around me, there's one up on a walkway shooting arrows atop an arch that I'd need to run through, round, and up to an angle to blast him
so I run through the arch and "AHHHH" hear a scream from behind me followed by a sick bump. Turning round, I see his mangled corpse - he slipped off the edge trying to shoot me as I ran below <3
Brilliant Skyrim vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F84oQejFvss
ohgod
uncontrollable giggles
ohmygod
the last 5 seconds
everytime you fireball a wolf in mid air
talking to that arsey elf outside winterhold collage mid conversation being attacked by a dragon. finish conversation.
fistfights with women always feel... odd.
It's like that episode of Friends
Where Ross fireballs a wolf in mid-air, and Phoebe says something kooky
I think I want this.
Really enjoyed Fallout 3. Currently really enjoying Fallout New Vegas. Never played any others of this type before.
So from a skim read of this thread
is it safe to assume that there might still be something in this game for someone who played Oblivion a couple of times and had no real idea what was going on and thought it was rubbish?
Definitely
I got no where in Oblivion. But I've played this for 20 hours so far. Very addictive.
^ this ^ all over
Skyrim is pretty forgiving and does hold your hand a little, to begin with. "Hey, guy, wanna level up? You know, we just made a BIG SONG AND DANCE about how you can, so... off you trot."
so,
the loading times then
had an hour
now level 10. ***********SPOILER IF YOUR NOT THIS FAR YET************
followed a dog to a cave, think I may be a vampire now :/ need to go somewhere else with this dog... hopefully to cure myself, i dont want to be a wampire.
Being a vampire was SHIT in Oblivion
I am not gonna be happy if that fate awaits me on Skyrim.
its a side quest
so should be avoidable.. just dont talk to stray dogs. a lesson we should all take heed of.
Gotta say I'm not really interested in being a Werewolf anymore.
I noticed that you don't get the "well rested" perk and level up slower. LAME.
sounds a bit shit
Im still looking for this werewolf dude to give a ring to. pisses me off cos I wandered around a forest for a bout an hour wihout finding him and I cant wear any other ring whilst this is going on :/ stupid fucking prisoner.
I've done a couple of the college of winterhold quests
though part of me is a bit disappointed the building's not as grand as the arcane university in Oblivion.
what the fuck is skyrim?
it's really annoying me now
get out of our sausage party
It's a magical world, we're on our way there...
...with trolls in their millions all under some FUCKING DRAGONS.
It's a game.
It's pretty much amazing.
If you enjoy setting fire to things (but not for real, just for pretend).
And if you've got 100+ hours of your life just lying about not doing anything.
i enjoy pretending to set things on fire
i also have an addictive personality, so im going nowhere near this.
It will end your social life and most likely your relationship.
last night's epic battle
went on this quest for this guy to give me the spell tome "detect life" (essential). you have to clear out this fort, it's occupied by bandits..... FUCKING HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF THEM. used up all my potions. so many dead bodies. then when you get out there's another 10 waiting for you. took an hour and a half for ONE SIDE QUEST. that is why this game is great.
:D I did that one two days ago.
Yes plenty millions of them. But I digress...
Checking in -
Craig David
Dark Elf
Level 22
Play time - 28:32
Companions Quests are DONE.
Skyrim is NEARLY LIBERATED (doing stormcloaks, totally badass)
I am STUCK on what seems like the final Mages guild/college of winterhold quest
Done a couple of bits here and there on the main quest.
Love this game
When you Manually save it?
I mean, obviously I've got a stopwatch going too....
but I just like two sources for clarification
Is it killing the dude? I thought my game had bugged.
I ended up refilling the staff and then it he got his arse wooped.
On mages? its forging the amulet. Mega boss battle
Biggest I've come accross in the game so far. very very very tough.
Just Googled this, I didn't do this...
Why I meant to?
I don't understand the question...
Typo, *was
I've not even got on a horse yet!
where from?
Stables, outside major cities.
Cheers
will invest in one next time :D
In my head, Garth Marenghi is reading this
Does the horse run out of energy in about three seconds?
Fast travel and see if it reappears next to you?
I'll retract what I said about dragons getting easier.
I just bumped into a Elder dragon, it ate me when I got near it.
Stuck on the college quest
Bloke with the staff of magnus is kicking my arse big time...
I had to go run and hid loads on this one. I found I was safe when I ran through entrance arch and did a few healing spells
I ran back in there chucked some fire at him then chopped him up. To be fair I did it a million times, I may have only won because he got stuck in the wall.
I just used the staff on him
he doesn't punch very hard after that
Wait I'm thinking of the later bit
Um. Yeah, lots of ducking out of line of sight to avoid getting shocked.
You just wait... it gets RIDICULOUS
Joined the Dark Brotherhood last night.
*SPOILER*
The initiation ritual thing was a bit creepy. Didn't know if there was a right or wrong answer of which of the captives to kill.
*END SPOILER*
Got some pretty snazz shrouded armour as you'd expect. Just need to get my alchemy skills up to scratch.. I don't think alchemy is as useful as oblivion seeing as you need to be at an alchemy table to mix potions.
I've used alchemy so much more in this game.
It saves lugging around the stuff you need for it. I just make a bunch of potions with what I've picked up every time I see one.
I seem to be carrying around loads of stuff without really using it.
Might have to adapt my play style a bit. Could use better damage health potions..
Yeah I did that for a bit but now I've got in the habit of using all my
poisons up when I get the chance, makes things easier and I keep making more!
Otar the Mad
was a tough nut
Alchemy
I'm enjoying messing about with this, but what is the point of making poisons? Is there some way you can get your enemies to drink them?
You use them and you put them on your sword/axes etc.
Useful for squeezing every last drop out of your swings.
Ah right
Haven't been bothering with weapons so I won't make any more
if you level up sneak/pickpocketing too
you can sneak poisons into peoples pockets and secretly bump them off that way
this sounds cool
Right, bought this yesterday
and have mainly been pottering around finding places and that.
What would people say are the best things to do early on - get a load of level ups early on before doing any quests or do you get the level ups during the course of the quests? Not really sure how it all works.
I'm a High Elf (called Partridge) btw.
Yeah, do a bit of misc stuff / side quests first
To level up and find loads of cool shit. Then go main quest, thats how I've been doing it.
I'm doing it pretty randomly, the main quest gives you a few shouts but they are not amazing.
I've been going wandering in the bottom left of the map recently, considering I've not touched it before this weekend!
Weekly check in:
Craig David - Dark Elf
Level 28
Playtime - 44 FUCKING HOURS
Mages, companions & stormcloaks all done. Joined the theives guild - just about to fight whatever the dragon on the main quest is called for the first time. Pretty excited.
I've also been doing some daedric missions, they're badass. I've stopped using weapons and am now captain destruction. Robbed a badass mask off some guy during the final mages quest. Just plain badass.

considering whether or not it would be inappropriate to 'marry' within the game.........I appreciate this would be bad with someone on the internet, but this is in the game, and I want the steady income that a spouse would supply, also with al;l that wondering around it would be nice to have somewhere to call home.....and what else am i supposed to do with all the carrots cabbages and cream cakes that I find?
this week ive mostly been killing big
things - 4 giants, lots of mammoths, 3 dragons
You can marry? Where does one pick up chicks in Skyrim?
you can marry someone of your own gender if you like
get the amulet of mara from her redguard priest in Mara's temple in Riften (do not get the amulet from anyone else)
Check in

Level 25 - Destruction, one-hand weapons, restoration, conjuring
Playtime - Too long
Not gonna like I was in shock when the head dude from the companions died this weekend, he seemed nice * irrational emotional attachment *
Beat my first Elder dragon, that was TOUGH and found the second word to the Fire shout which kicks it. This game is still completely amazing.
**SPOILERS***
I should mentioned that sorry.
got it on saturday
fucking brilliant isn't it?
I've lost Lydia.
Worried she might be dead.
I lost her
within about 5 minutes of teaming up with her. Silly bitch
I keep loosing my followers. They are pretty useless if you go a bit "off piste"...
Yeah but they usually come back.
This isn't like Lydia, she's never been gone for this long before.
I can't remember I may have lost her in a fight and left her in a cave.
I'd make a bad husband.
I would be devestated if I lost Lydia
Devestated. We've been through a lot together and she carries pretty much EVERYTHING I own.
I like her grumpy response whenever I load her up with weapons and armour
You can load them up? I did not know this, that would be pretty useful.
*devastated
In my new world of skyrim I dunt need two do spellin wel!1!1!
Lydia is one of the characters that you can 'marry' unless you've gone and gotten her killed :D
and the archer fella from River???
I managed to get them both killed so far.....its not looking good for my colleague from winterhold college (I cant remember her difficult name)who is accompanying me at the moment, luckily, shes quite sensible and goes off an heals herself when shes getting knacked.......I thought if i married her then at least she wouldn't die like my previous accomlices
Yeah I killed that guy by accident too.
Came back later and dropped his body into a river and let the current take him over a waterfall. Seemed better than just leaving him there for the animals.
Did you hum a tune while you watched him go over the edge?
Didn't get to see him go over because Lydia ran in front of me and stood in the way
Bitch.
I've gone back to the last few places I can remember being with her,
but nothing. I've gone to the last place we fought a dragon but I can't even find a body. I hired a replacement for her but she was useless. I couldn't even be bothered to reload my last save after I accidentally killed her.
Won't she just respawn in main hall of Dragons jobbie in Whiterune?
Post pics of your skyrim characters
I want to see Craig David
He is a rebel with a heart of gold
How does one take a picture of their character?
I have managed to stave off buying this until I have the holiday time to play it
So..... the world of skyrim is still three weeks away for me but I've got a couple of days before my kids break up to lock myself away and blitz it.
I am getting pretty stoked about it though. Haven't looked forward to a game like this for a LONG time.
What are people's thoughts about initial character creation? What are your options? I've read a lot about how important it is to make the right choices in the first hour....
Are you all playing as your own gender or not? Are there many pros/cons to the various races?
To be honest what is good about the game is that apart from your race
You don't really have to decide anything, you can always go back and learn something else or activate another stone.
Honestly the best game I've ever played.
you can't go back and make your b**** bigger though :(
its f***ing enormous, and it must be good because i have no intention of giving up before i've explored everywhere
...is this much bigger than the previous episodes of the elder scrolls?
It's about the same size as oblivion but I understand there is more content
in the same space.
I think the character creation in Skyrim is better than Oblivion
your race affects a few stats at the beginning- but there's no stuff with classes or the like which affect how you level up with major/minor skills, so your decisions at the start won't lock you into any particular method of playing.
last night I got a big burly bloke killed (and a weasily bloke)
in a tomb looking for the big blokes auntie (elma?) he died in a maelstrom of wights and fireballs from me and my alive companion. so 4 people have died under my leadership......learn this lesson well....NEVER follow me.
in my mind you are screaming 'can you see it yet? can you see it yet?'
as you shoot fireballs around the place.
I've lost 2 so far, they keep getting in the way of my sword slashes or they are dying and just STAND THERE.
Man...
You could've had the burly guy join you as a companion if you hadn't turned him to cinders. I take Goldir everywhere and have given him an 'Exquisite' Skyforge Steel Battleaxe that I crafted with my own hands. He ruins pretty much anything that crosses our paths with it; charging in with seemingly unquechable bloodlust and swearing oaths to Talos. Good guy.
Plus he talks like Schwarzenegger.
:( I tried to go back just before he got killed
but i couldnt
It's pretty harrowing that's for sure.
My War-dog 'Endurance' died the first time I took him out adventuring. 500 gold shannix down the drain and I'm looking down the barrel of an animal cruelty wrap. Hopefully they don't find out about the ten bear pelts I've got back at Breezehome.
just started it
bit overwhelmed
I just found a pile of ashes in winterhold
The pile of ashes' name was Lydia
:D
actually this needs a tear as well cos its strangely moving
:'D
isn't lydia your house carl?
i can't get her to accompany me :(
Oh I've just saw upthread
:D
Looking through the patch notes while it's updating
“Fixed occasional issue where a guest would arrive to the player's wedding dead”
:D

Ara[mysurname] - IMAGINATIVE
Breton - like the massive racist that i am, i chose the most *normal* looking character
Level 15 / 34 hours - rubbish ratio - see below
Starting to specialise in destruction and restoration because magic is fucking cool.
I'm a terrible gamer / taking it at my own pace. Done very few quests, the list on the start menu is so long. It's a bit CREEPY and FOREBODING like, and i don't like foreboding. Most of my levelling up comes from hours spent jumping off walls in Mzinchaleft, sneaking behind guards and wailing the living fuck out of M'aiq every time he shows up.
I personally love how many quests I have to do.
Keeps me busy, I've been doing some wandering but not as much as I did in Oblivion. The quests kind of drag you around the map so you have to wander anyway.
I've been playing the main quest all I can say is....
I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT.
Stormcloaks
I've not done either of these yet but I'm going stormcloak, cooler name.
Imperials
Trebors
I thought I'd do some woodchopping in Dragon Bridge and earn sweet coin from the alcoholic lumberjack
I did chop that wood, and sweet coin was earned.
Then a dragon appeared and killed him and his wife :(
The means streets of Skyrim.
Hahaha

Still not been to 2 of the major cities
nearly 2 days worth of straight gameplay...
Yeah I've not been to Winterhelm or Markarth :\
only been to one.
13 hrs in.
LOVE this game.
I've still got one to visit.
Though I don't think I'm welcome in one of them anymore. :S
Did you kill your wife?
Nope, I'm free and single at the moment!*
*not got round to mucking about with the amulet of mara yet
I cheated a bit by using the taxi outside Whiterun
i
Ive only been to Whiterun, Winterfall and Riften
out of the cities so far....Ive been in differnt holds though....whenever I set off for different cities, I get distracted by other places and events, there is just too much.
I've been told lots of methods of levelling up wuickly but i dont think that i want to, there is plenty enough stuff to do that will take us all the way up to 100 I am sure.
I found a spell that turns iron into silver and silver into gold.
I fucking love this game so much.
Ah, I found that!
Not found too much use other than for making money though..
So I reviewed this, like, a week ago...
...obviously not finished or anywhere near. Now, I'm much further in. So do forgive me when the review runs (tomorrow, I am told) and it's not quite as DEEP as it would be now. Time was against me... I thought.
In other news: those giants, don't they get cold just wandering around in their pants? Hanging out with mammoths all the time, surely an opportunity would arise where a lovely mammoth-skin coat could be procured?
In other other news: why do I get the chills now whenever I go into a dungeon? Didn't happen early doors. Then there was the vampire side-mission where I helped a dead little girl get vengeance for her dead mum (spoilers?)... and went down to clear out a cave of these nasty vampires... I didn't like that much. Bunch of pussies that came with me to the cave wouldn't go in. Still, avoided becoming a vampire myself (albeit only when I restarted after contracting the bloody disease and going a different way out second time around - Yeah I'm a cheat, sorta).
And in other other other news...
...it really is brilliant, isn't it? Like, a proper achievement in the field. Bethesda: building better worlds (to pinch from Weyland-Yutani) since forever, but now doing it better than ever before. Might be my game of the year. Though my SHOOT EVERYTHING IN THE FACE side really did enjoy Gears 3 quite a bloody lot. Despite Ice-T trying his best to ruin it.
Might be the best game ever if you ask me!
I love FPSs but this ticks all my geek boxes. Before this Knights of the Old Republic was my favourite game.
Those giants are strange.
A lot of the time when I'm attacked by a dragon and there's giants nearby, they'll pile in. Usually I'm happy to let them slug it out then kill off whoever is left. I got killed by a giant once and I went flying a couple of km into the air, it was pretty funny.
Likewise...
Pretty early on I thought: hell, all that dude has is a club, I've got FIRE IN MY HANDS... only one winner. Nu-uh... THWACK. Nice landscape... dead.
It was one of the first things I attacked, they have some reach on them!
I rather like them, however I don't like the concept of carrying their toes around with me.
yeah, what's with the toe?
was i cursed with its possession during a mission?
yeah im sure it would occur to people to cut off something other than their toe
I also find the depiction of the mammoths trunk rather unsettling
It's just an ingredient as far as I can see.
next time I'm going to use that drag item trick on the mammoth trunk
and pretend it's my willy
I'm a little disappointed that this monster has replaced the regular gaming thread
shame on you all
Yeah someone do a games thread please
There are... other games?
I would, but i mainly read and don't contribute
my thread would just be about how much Blops I've played each week
I think Ichor has lived his life in thread
I'm quite worried for him tbh.
It stops me talking about it in real life.
you still have a real life?
I reclaimed it after the first week, I have too much work to do.
I didn't pick up on this from the very start of the game, because it was a mad rush
The Imperials were gonna chop your ass off
Ulfric Stormcloak was in that prisoners wagon too
I'm choosing Stormcloaks.
Yeh but the stormcloaks are racist to elves and I'm a Wood Elf
So I'll choose Imperials, and forgive them for the misunderstanding at the start.
(I do have another save where I'm a tank Nord Stormcloak though :D)
Did you escape with the stormcloak or imperial?
Imperial...
...but TBH in the chaos I didn't really twig that til long afterwards. That side of the game only began to clear for me once I'd made it to solitude.
Anyone done the Bard's College? Worthwhile? What do I want to sing for?
See I didn't know there were two people at the start either!
Turns out I escaped with the Imperial. :( ?
Oh yeah I forgot the Stormcloaks were a bit racist. Hmm. This is just like political parties... is it possible to join both sides, for a while at least?
the imperials let the thalmor do their witchunts
and trample on the name of talos! they have failed the good people of skyrim. Got to go stormcloak.
OH MY GOD MY COPY ARRIVED IN THE POST YESTERDAY
IT HAS A MAP IN THE BOX!
A MAP!
love it. Reminds me of my Dad's copy of Lord of the Rings. WHen I first read that and discovered the pull out map of MIddle Earth I was so happy....
I have a promo copy.
No instructions.
No map.
No nothing...
I want a map.
I haven't really read the map properly at all.
Just given it a wry skim.
(Yes, that was worth the bump, if you're wondering)
went back to the graybeards
after completing the final trial...and it's BUGGED! BUGGED GODDAMMIT, so can't go any further with that until it's fixed. Then went to try and do the first companions mission (once you've properly joined) and am at nowhere near a high enough level. Bloddy Falmers. Feeling a bit down about Skyrim today.
I received my copy of Skyrim a day early - 10th November. It was great!
My PS3 got YLOD on the 12th. £100 replacement from Sony. I have no money until after christmas. Still broken. Fuck you all.
about 20 hours in
level 17, im now in the college of winterhold.
Had a good session this weekend.
Level 22ish I think. Got a perk which means when using archery my shots stagger enemies half the time. Pretty good.
I now have a fully upgraded Unrelenting Force shout, which is hilarious when using it on people near cliffs, and watching them fly off the edge.
The full Unrelenting Force is amazing
Proper ragdoll mayhem.
I'm up to level 20 now, arch mage, one hand sword, one hand fireball. Just joined the Stormcloaks, having done most of the Companions and all of the magic college.
Do we think there is any truth in the rumours that the DLC may bring Morrowind and Cyrodill
Aparantly the disk contains lots of detailed maps that far extend the reaches of Skyrim. Rumoured to be there to lighten the download size when the DLC comes out?!
Started again last night
Got a bit bored of my lv25 mage just dual-cast shocking everything to death in 2 hits for little or no mana cost.
So, character 2 is a khajjit, going for sneaky plus bow or sword and shield. Also siding with the Nords this time and intending to be a bit of a murderious thieving bastard.
yeah starting to get a bit repetitive
does it get any deeper as you progress past level 20+ ?
I'd say no, personally.
I've got to lvl 29 now, I'm still having trouble at points...
I tend to mix it up and flip between magic and one handed sword. I have been dabbling with a bow but I'm gonna save that for my next play through I think.
48 hours of life has been taken by this games awesomeness.
Bow is easily the best weapon.
I'm using a drainspell bow, which I top up with a soul gem every now and again. I always use frostbite or weak poison, just before I'm about to strike a beast. (a bit like a snooker player using chalk on his cue).
I honestly don't know how anyone could get bored of this game.....I've clocked up 63 hours, and I'm still hopelessly addicted. I've bought 2 copies of it - last night my first copy started playing up - thought it was the 1.3 patch, but then I looked at the cd and realised that my xbox had scored it for some reason, so drove straight down to Sainsbury's to buy another copy.
I've completed pretty much all of the main quests except for the Stormcloaks and the thieves guild - which I stopped because they were getting boring.
What I've been doing for the last week or so, is working my way round clockwisew around the border, taking out all of the bandit/covern/druagr bases - basically so that every area on my map has the word 'cleared' written underneath it.
I've spent pretty much 10 hours, and I've only travelled from about 6 o'clock to about quarter to 8.
Game's fucking amazing.
Stopped playing
got too repetitive.
each city has A, B, C, D etc but with a lightly different flavour.
Still ranks as one of my fave games ever, but people touting it as "infinitely re-playabale" are wrong.
Christian Replayabale?
Still going quite strong at Level 33 (ish)..
The bow is my main weapon at the moment. Can quite easily take down Dragons now, and a lot of enemies with one shot. Paralysis potions are pretty snazzy too.
Only just started mucking about with Enchanting shit, seems pretty easy to level up- just enchant a few daggers with something naff and then sell them. Made a "Sword o' Doom" which absorbs health, it's quite gnarly.
Thought I'd completed the mages college, but I think there may be more to do..
Dragons have become tough for me now, I keep getting Ancient ones come at me.
I'm at level 35. I've started hitting up the bow and using poisons and it is getting better...
bump!
Got this last week and hooked! Normally a bit of a casual gamer but this now owns my soul. Cannot get enough.
So - progress report.
Level 7 Khajit. Heavy Armour plus sword and destruction
Pretty sneaky, wee bit of archery in there too.
Wanna be alot more magical but finding it slow to to level up .
Heading up to High Hglarth or whatever it's called and have just spotted that troll y'all are talking about. It ran off chasing a goat but know its gonna be right there in my face as soon as i load the game up
How's everyone doin? Please warn of spoilers :)
Any other cats?
hmm
addy?
I've hit a lull
Done Stormcloaks, Companions, Thieve's Guild, Dark Brotherhood and am working my way through the main quest now, I'm in the middle of the quest where I've got to get the elder scroll transcoded or something and I'm stuck. No real drive to become unstuck at the minute either.
Level 31 Redguard bastard warrior man, heavy armour in the 80's and two-handed weapons at 98.
whaaaaay
Level 51, maxed light armour, one-handed, enchanting and smithing. Speech and alchemy nearly there too, but do bloody tiresome to level them.
The two-enchantment perk (along with a superboosted bit of honing on my dragonscale armour and weapon collection) has left me in the position of crushing everything like a bug however. I've even popped the difficulty up to max and it isn't really helping.
So it's fun doing the thieves guild stuff, most of which is a bit sideways: not just punching mans in the face. Other questlines mostly done, so I think I might plow through this and maybe the Dark Brotherhood, then put it to rest. And though I've got plenty of reservations, it's been very very fun.
I'm at a bit of a lull too
I'm a bit annoyed. I just got destruction to 100 and <spoiler?> the master destruction spell is just awful. I didn't realise it would be the same area effect crap I'd used once in scroll form and accidentally killed my 30 hour old horse with. </spoiler?> I spent hours getting there and it's taken the wind out of my sails a bit. Done the mages college, most of the way through the companions (have to wait 30 days to continue due to some kind of glitch), a bunch of daedric quests and I'm just about to join the Thieves Guild. Not done much of the main quest, got to meet what's her face in riverthing but can't be bothered.
Level 36 Dark Elf ice flinging evil mage bastard, with a tendency to use Captain Bighammer IV to finish people off and steal their souls.
not played in AAAAAAAAAGES
like, a couple of months, more to do with my brain than me not enjoying it. And now i've had to take a couple of days off work i can't play it, cos my left hand is borked.
Killed Rahgot last night, then went to Labyrinthian and placed the final
dragon priests mask - so now have Kahronik (or something)'s mask. It's supposed to boost my health back up to full if I'm about to die.
Can anyone recommend any decent missions to do - non main quest related? Ie, not ANY of the main quest related ones, Dark Brotherhood or otherwise.....scratching about a bit and I'm only level 37, so there must be a hell of a lot left to do.
Aim to get to the stage
where you own and have done up all of the purchasable houses. I like owning multiple houses.
I've got 2 places. Breezhome and the huge 25k one in Solitude.
I have got the decorating manual, but I can never get the house done up....you're supposed to go and see Proventus Avieicci (or whatever his name is) to get it done, or something, but nothing happens everytime I go there.
I think that I've pretty much discovered every place as well, because I spent about a month (human time) just walking around, discovering new caves, burial grounds etc, and clearing them.
:'(
how do you get the other dragon masks?
I got one quite early (Morokei i think it's called) on and i just expected to stumble across them as rewards for various quests. I think i might be missing something.
Go onto the Wikia elder scrolls site and search for dragon priests.
There's 8 of them to get.
I wish I still had some to get - they're a real challenge.
i feel a bit dirty and ashamed when i look at the wikia
are they not part of a questline then
I don't think so.
No need to feel bad - you still have all the hard work to do to get them.
Have you done all the Daedric quests? They're fun.
And often a bit weird.
Is that to get the daedric artifacts?
I've got the Azura's star, the Skull of corruption, Ebony great sword, Mace of Molag Bol, The Sanguine rose and the spell breaker..
I tried to trigger the others but cant for some reason..Reall want Volendrung hammer.
Done Companions, Thieve's Guild (though not restored to its former glory yet) D Brotherhood, Bards College and Civil War
I chose Imperials. They're a good bunch of lads. Crushing the Stormcloaks was a pleasure.
Now at the same point Ant is in the main storyline. Determined to get a platinum tropy, even though I realised I'd not pickpocketed anyone, so now I'm doing it to everyone to get my 50 of those.
Level 46 Nord. 100 smithing, 80 speech, 100 heavy armour, 90 one handed
Oh and I married some bird called Ria cos I just wanted the trophy
Turns out she has a shop and every 2 days she gives me 2 large. Sweet
so you might say you've got yourself a trophy wife!!!!!!!!!
And dragons are so annoying
I've levelled archery a bit but I'm just not very good at aiming
COME DOWN HERE SO I CAN PWN YOU WITH MY FLAMING DAEDRA SWORD
Dragons..
Every time I hear one of those dragons loathsome groans I feel like punching the tv screen.
I've got 8 unused dragon souls - I don't need to kill any dragons.
Another thing that really annoys me, is that I no longer use my horse, but it insists on following me everywhere that I fast travel to. And with doing this, the sodding dragons will attack it first, everytime. This means (so that I don't lose 4k's worth of horse) I have to jump on the dumb nag, and ride it over somewhere that it will be safe, then head back over to the dragon to fight it.
My helper can be an absolute idiot as well. The amount of times that I've had to take her miles away from the action an tell her to wait - then go back and kill the foe.
Trying to get all the shouts
got all 3 words for marked for death now which is pretty badass. want the next 2 words for storm call now. it's absolutely mint
Fuck sake
I'd have thought you'd all have completed this by now.
com.. ple.. ted?
