Monpot Gets A Job

monpot [Edit] [Delete] 32 replies 16:30, 22 September '05
I've been offered 3 weeks work. Me, working! Crazy I know.

Sounds like the worst job in the world as well, well not literally, but basically I'll be burning Learn To Speak Welsh CDs all day. Sounds like a hoot. Could be almost as mundaine as the teddy-bear job I had when I was 16.

Hopefully they'll give me an internet terminal or something, otherwise I might just go mad.

He was in charge of the Cardiff under-5s teddybears picnic.

I was in a pubquiz the other day, and someone had put as one of their answers: Franklin ' Teddy' Roosevelt. You can't buy that kind of smug ignorance!

        • Re: Monpot Gets A Job

They weren't even fluffy proper teddies! Basically there was this teddy bear 'game' which involved putting pictures of clothes onto a picture of a teddy. I was working in a tiny store room with crap lighting, surrounded by big stacks of these various pictures. My job was to take one from each stack, and put them in a bag. All day.

On the plus side I was unsupervised so I'd turn up late, have a massive lunch break, and leave early. Also, sometimes when I got there the building was locked. I had a key, but not the alarm codes, and so on those days I'd just go to town. I watched the X-Men film in the cinema on one of those days.

I also fell asleep in the store-room a few times, and I'd be listening to music on a walkman all day.

Actually that was probably the best job I've ever had.

I had some good news regarding my job today which could lead to a new position for me. Fingers crossed.

Congrats Monpot (if that is indeed appropriate)

It strikes me as odd though that you don't have a nice job in some dusty old bookstore down a cardiff backstreet in a 'Keep the Aspidistra flying' kind of way...

Well done Monpot! Hope it doesn't interfere with your posting too much, all that burning might wear out your fingers!

        I'd love to!

My sadly-departed Aunt and Uncle used to run a ramshackle 2nd hand book shop in the Canton area of Cardiff. It was brilliant. They were constantly giving me books, I don't think I ever bought a book untill after they died. Actually, they'd give everyone books -lovely people, but no business sense.

Id love to be Gordon Comstock apart from having to work over Lambeth way and spending a night in the cells with Fletch - I recommend everyone to read this book

          • Re: Monpot Gets A Job

I got a job in a bookshop last week - not an Aspidistra-esque one, sadly. I'll shortly be working for monolithic Waterstone's, selling chick-lit and 'Teach Yourself' books

            • Re: Monpot Gets A Job

Which Waterstones will that be Grinner? The Hayes or the one by Primark?

When I used to work in a call center I'd spend a good portion of my lunch-breaks in Waterstones, I quite like being surrounded by books, it's calming. Libraries are the best because they're free.

The Hayes one. Should be quite fun - oh, and quiet.

The woman just phoned me to say I'll get training on some specialist CD-Burning Machine. The fact that it's a machine and not a computer makes me doubtfull that I'll be On-Line.

Once the 3 weeks are up I'll be like Christian Bale in The Machinist I think.

        • Re: Monpot Gets A Job

I used to work with to a CD burning machine, it could burn 7 cds in less than two minutes. It didn't need to a computer to work but I had one anyway. It was just a case of putting cds in the drawers and pressing the copy button. Should give you loads of opportunity to surf the net.

          • Re: Monpot Gets A Job

            Comforting words, I thank you!

7 in 2 minutes sounds quite exciting. Must be thousands of them to do though if it's a 3 week job!

I'm hopeing I get loads of blank CDs to steal.

            • Re: Monpot Gets A Job

That was an obvious bonus and you can do copies of cds for your mates in no time. Not that I condone that kind of behaviour obviously.

i expect a hundred copies of "another brick in the wall" by this time next week or i'm telling the DSS you're an illegal immigrant
