I finished it last week and feel the need to discuss it.
What do you make of the ending? I think the first chapter suggests Don and Hal meet and embark on finding the master copy, when he says they dug up his father's head. But then I wonder why Hal's behaviour is so terrible for the university deans at the beginning - he's starting to lose control of his facial tics at the end of the Year of the Depend Adult Undergarment but maybe he's now seen the movie? Or taken the DMZ even.
I liked Orin's ending, the reference to 1984 and screaming that they should be torturing either the "Swedish" Hand-model or Helen Steeply, either way it's a great bit.
The part where Hal stumbles into the men's self-help group is one of the most troubling and vivid bits of writing I've ever read. Wonderfully disgusting throughout.
