Worth getting one? My company is offering 50% off a years membership. Do you use yours much?
Definitely, definitely worth doing. I use mine once/twice a month and have eaten in some cracking places at fantastic value.
Can't recommend it highly enough at 50% off.
First time we used it we saved £40. So I'd say so. Reckon we've saved more than £150 in all
I'm a complete snob though and shudder at the thought of going into a restaurant and handing them my little money off card when I ask for the bill.
Thus, I don't have shame.
just Pizza Express and Zizzi.
with chilli oil dribbled on it
I was just seeing how much of your foodie cred you were willing to chuck away in one thread.
But yeah, all of the chains are in on the game, sure. Which isn't a bad thing if you just want a quick bite to eat before a gig or something. But, seriously, there's some top notch eateries on there if you have a bit of a look...
There are some pretty decent, non-chain restaurants in there these days, especially in London.
...there's always been a good mix of chain and non-chain.
Sangria on Upper Street has just joined. Some of the best tapas in London at 2 for 1? Erm, yes please...
they have vouchers now, you know.
Nor do I need to print them out to take to the restaurant thus wasting valuable paper/environment.
It's largely just the same places that constantly churn out vouchers. Plus they don't usually work at weekends. You can always just borrow one from a colleague who gets one...
I never used it.
last few times i've been to places other than chains i've been with people who have them already. The rest of the time there are usually free vouchers I can get on Vouchercloud.
Seems like too much effort. I just like to turn up and throw vouchers in their face.
Except it was a free 3 month trial, so no great loss. Found it in my wallet the other day. Dumb part was that I actually went out for dinner a few times in the last month, though I thought you had to book in advance on their web site or some crap.
Ring up, as you normally would, to book a table and at the end of the booking mention you have a tastecard. Easy peasy.
Do you have to make a booking in advance? Most of the time I was idling about. Suppose I could just walk in and say `Can I eat now. *I* have a Taste card. Cheers.`
If it's a chain place they won't bat an eyelid, but I'd say it's about 50/50 if you need to book in advance... (the better the place, the higher the likelihood).
Best thing to do is get the taste app if you've got a BlackBerry or "smartphone" or something. That way you can find out in a matter of seconds...
I've used it once
they just like going to Prezzo though...
It's good for having lunch with people from work as loads of the places near the office accept them. Plus you can usually avoid the embarrassment of unexpectedly presenting your "I'm a cheapskate" card by mentioning it over the phone when you book a table. Hoxton Furnace + Taste card = lunch of kings (fat kings).
pretty good elsewhere. In the provinces a lot of the restaurants are places you can get vouchers for, but there are still enough decent places to use elsewhere. I have easily got the value out of mine (I actally got it for 28 quid), not sure I would pay full price for one tough unless i was in the smoke.
I never end up using it though. So many places have vouchers anyway, and a lot of the time the Taste Card has annoying restrictions (like it won't apply to groups of four or can only be used between 9.15pm and 9.23pm). I'm sure you can make it work for you though.
....off ebay for £3
there are LOADS on there - just do that
They send you a code and then you enter it on the taste website then get the card through the post
people should just buy it off here:
12 months for £4.00. Well worth it
i got mine - it did appear to have come from some carphone warehouse promotion.... they sent me a code and probably just ticked the box on the taste site saying it was a carphone warehouse thing...obviously its just some person who has a load and flogging them on ebay
me and a few friends all got one with no bother
you just have to tick some box or something when entering the code.
the reason these are all on ebay as a company gets loads free, as mentioned above.
*waves taste card*
so i am looking into it.
