I'd just stop smoking.
for about 3months then try to quit
I got lucky, one day I didn't fancy it anymore and I no longer smoke outside if social situations. But before this when I tried to quit I found nicotine withdrawal very distressing and I couldn't get anything done & wasn't that pleasant to be around.
had bitten them non stop since i can remember but quitting was easy. it's not the same as alcohol, sure, but it was a massive habit.
you get cravings. maybe they're even really really strong. so what. you don't have to act on them. it's not heroin withdrawal.
After years. Just stopped. Never wanted one since. I have had one since when I've been drunk, and I hated it and it's ace to try it and to actually really really hate it. MY BEST TALENT IS GIVING UP SMOKING.
except I still enjoy one or two every hour then again when I'm drunk, I find cigarettes impossible to smoke when I'm sober now. It's weird I went from 20 odd sods a day to none in the space of a day without any symptoms, I just didn't like them anymore and it was sudden, a couple days earlier I was pretty much still in love with the idea of smoking at lunch breaks and the like.
I smoked every day when I was in India (4 months) roughly 10 or so and then when I came home I just didn't do it. It wasn't a part of my routine so was easy to stop.
and i think a lot of it is down to mood. I was averaging between 15-20 a day up until about a month ago. My gf is a med student and very anti-smoking, and i kinda just stopped. I've had a handful since but it's just been great not smoking, going to the gym and being able to fingd that extra bit of pace.
The withdrawal is so small you can sleep through it, so you can go the 2-3 days for it to all leave your system no worries. If people give in to a slight nagging feeling that they want a cigarette or kid themselves that it relaxes them / improves social situations then more fool them.
