Lol @ England.
That's why we're lolling.
we're pretty much fucked either way. I guess there's the issue of him not being match-sharp by the time the knock-outs come round, but there'll be friendlies before the tournament and training ground matches, and even the first knock-out match shouldn't have too much riding on the quality of his performance. My fear is that whoever comes in instead of him (Zamora) will integrate really well, link up much better with the players around him, and then get dropped as soon as Rooney is available again anyway.
England go out in the group stages and the press chorus "if only Rooney hadn't been so childishly petulant" on a loop until the end of time, or until 'arry becomes England manager, whichever might prove more welcome.
...given that the incident wasn't particularly serious or in any way dangerous. If he'd been given a yellow I think the commentary would have described him as being a bit lucky and then we could have all happily got on with our lives.
Don't think it was harsh - he was being a proper wanker
If, IF, we progress beyond the group why should a supposedly lesser player step aside to allow Rooney back into the team? Give somebody else a chance to not fuck it up.
I think the squad will stand strong regardless.
Someone find out
It's not like he plays well for England anyway, we're hamstringing ourselves for the group stage bringing him, we need team to gel for them, what's the point?
I don't think we have too much lacking upfront anyway, it's the midfield and defence that are dire. Make a team that gels without him, he can't be trusted on pitch.
i'm surprised he can dress himself
take some younger players who will give a shit and that might then rub off on the fans
taking him means he's only useful in the knockouts - if we get there without him momentum and reward are the reasons whoever gets us there should continue
he's our best player, and we should take him.
seen valid point earlier though, decision will be made after group stages are drawn, tough group will need as many available as possible, if easier group less risk.
so i don't think it leaves us short.
Sturridge and Welbeck could gel, Agbonlahor if his form continues should get a shot too, and I rate Bent as a finisher. Equally Defoe is looking alright shockingly this season. I'd much prefer we try and get a steady team working together, rather than build a partnership only to dump Rooney into it half way through tourney. If other strikers not up to snuff at all, reasonable to have him tag along.
The other problem is he brings precisely the wrong attitude, and the whole attitude of standing England squad is off, frankly it needs to be rooted out, and if that is helped by rooney being kicked out then so be it.
The likelihood of us needing - or even wanting - all of them for the first 3 matches alone is slim.
He's a strict disciplinarian and Rooney has let the team down.
Plus it would upset a settled team bringing him in after the group stages. And that is even if we qualify.
Leaving out Rooney would just be cutting off his nose to spite his own face, especially considering that he won't be in charge once the tournament's over. Assuming he's fit, there's no way in a million years that Rooney won't go.
at least it saves all the media drama towards the end of the season about him potentially getting injured and missing the tournament anyway.
will look inevitably like this thread.
I hate how we always seem to be relying on one 'world-clarse' player. This could force England to be more like an actual team with actual chemistry, instead of just expecting Wazzer to pull us through with his immense talent and unrivalled good looks.
You can't deliberately kick someone and get a one game ban.
If it stays at 3 games, fuck him and leave him at home. Appalling lack of discipline.
