Axis [Edit] [Delete] 29 replies 13:16, 4 October '11

What do you do to stop it...will a packet of Tunes help?

  • ICE CREAM

    ICE CREAM CURES ALL.

I had it really badly for about a week, it then turned into a horrible flu where I couldn't breath when I was walking and when I went to bad several hours of needing to cough a bit and blow my nose. It's almost cleared up. One of that London lot gave it to me, I always get ill when I've seen them.

      • I get throat ulcers quite regularly and this works

    • ^this, if you think there's an infection

The salt water can dry out the back of your throat though amd m,ake it feel tight, so drink hot fluids. I like boiling water with a huge spoonful of manuka honey and teh juice of a lemon and a lime in it (which makes it nice and tart, strips away catarrh and is full of vit c). the additoin of aslug of whisky (generally speaking only if it's after lunchtime) is vbrilliant. This makes it a 'hot toddy' and uyou'll sleep like a baby :)

My throat is killing me too. I'm gong to stock up on honey and stuff at lunch.

  • If you get a chesty cough

try lemon, honey, olive oil and hot water. It may help a sore throat too.

    cheeseandbaconturnov | 4 Oct '11, 13:26 | X
  • It's just a sore throat no cough.

    All the above seem pretty..involved.

      • : (

If i start mixing honey and ginger into my tea everyone will think i've gone mad. I'm not really in the situation to start gargling hot water either.

        • enjoy your sore throat

It will probably develop into a chest infection anyway.

          • : (

Are you on the Manuka people's payroll?

btw I've never had a chest infection and this is the first sore throat i can remember so i'll probably be fine after lunch anyway.

            Axis @PickledOeuf | 4 Oct '11, 13:41 | X
            • I was only kidding. Tough love, my friend!

Most sore throats clear up after a few days without any need for fancy intervention. As said above- salt water will help see off any infection. Otherwise, you just want to asoothe it. Tunes and soothers and stuff can help, but to be honest, nothing eally beats a hot drink. Avoid milk if you can (it encourages phlegm producion) and drink herbal tea, or even black coffee if you're trying to avoid any questoining looks at work.

              • another suggestion

Orange or blackcurrant squash diluted with hot water. Lovely.

          • I don't want this to happen

            :(

Since I had my tonsils out I get chest infections. It's brilliant.

  • Lots of dairy

Full fat milk, some cheese... these are great things to eat when feeling like you're getting a cold. Also, stuff like porridge, semolina etc. Make sure it's nice and milky.
