TiVo and Virgin Media

Charlemagne [Edit] [Delete] 18 replies 14:41, 30 September '11

I'm moving house and need to sort out new broadband, phone, TV package.

Had Sky with Sports package for the last few years but as I'm moving in with the missus I can't really afford it.

Virgin seems cheaper and the new TiVo box looks good. Anyone got it?

  • I played with one, it's amazing

I cannot wait until I get my upgrade in the next few months! It's so much better then Sky+

  • In general, Virgin have provided a brilliant srevice

we get the full package from them, and it's way cheaper than what i'd have to pay for a Sky equivalent. Not got Tivo yet, but we're moving soon and will get it after that.

    • Yeah, I hear horror stories

but they've been at least 1,000,000x better at keeping me happy then BT did and about 500,000x better at keeping me happy then Sky, mainly because it usually works and their call centre staff don't infuriate me & they play mmm-bop when you're on hold (and I love the Scottish accent)

Got a mate who works there so can get "mates rates" XL packages on TV, Broadband and phone + TiVo box for £41 a month.

Only annoying thing is 18 month contract.

  • Virgin has been a bit shit since it lost hbo on demand

  • be warned that Virgin's customer service is legendarily bad

    guntrip | 30 Sep '11, 15:01 | X
    • all ISP type people have terrible customer service - why is that?

FWIW, the Virgin Customer Service is pretty great if you interact with them via Twitter instead of phoning the call centre.

  • Just moved from Sky to Virgin

but not bothered with Tivo. Looks good, but does anyone really need that much TV? Love Virgin for the on demand type stuff, but miss the Sky layout (but that might just be familiarity/habit). Sky customer service was shocking, happy with Virgin so far.

  • Got tivo.

Had it for about a month and it's pretty great. Can't fault the installation man, the customer service or the actual interface in any way. It does have apps (youtube esp good) but not sure if Spotify is on there yet (not seen it anyway). The only minor complaint I would have is the way the buttons are laid out on the remote but really that's just splitting hairs. Can't compare with Sky+ as never used it.

    • It'll be released by the end of the year spotify, the last I heard anyways

    • Is Youtube app free?

      Teeej @licky_kicky | 30 Sep '11, 21:43 | X
      • Comes as standard I believe

and the best thing is it doesn't use up your internets bandwidth, the tivo box get it's own 10MBit line with out any data restraints. So use on the internet will not effect how youtube runs on your TiVo

This is the main reason I want it TBF

  • i get my tv, phone and broadband from Virgin

it's awesome. not had any problems. the online customer service is brilliant. sign up via quidco.com and you'll earn a good amount of cashback too! (i got £60 but i think it is more than that now)

  • I have got Tivo,

and as someone else said, remote is a bit awkward but the service is excellent, and £2 a month cheaper than V+

  • virgin media is good

but both me and a friend have had big issues with the installation process

they seem to contract the installation to random blokes, had a different one each time meaning no one knew what the problem was.

They also turn up whenever they fucking like, had the guys at my house till midnight on one day after arriving at the end of the 9am - 6pm window

got my first month free after a 3 weeks of hassle
