I can't even order pick cos I'm a mong
I'm getting a lot less picks done than everyone else. It's not a raw speed thing. It must be the system I'm using.
Whats your job?
I get given a bunch of sheets and one sheet = one order.
The locations of each item in the order are listed. There are lot of locations.
We pile 6 tote boxes on top of a float and then fill them up, one box = one order. Meaning I'll only ever get 6 orders done at a time despite the items in each order often being at opposite ends of the warehouse, so it takes ages.
criss crossing the warehouse for each single sheet?
If I am correct in this assumption, may I offer the following possible change to how you are dealing with this...
Each seperate order will probably have items in the same or similar area, rather than looking at filling each individual order seperately, look to fill all of the orders you have collectively, exhausting the required items for all of the orders you have from each area of the warehouse.
In this way you will avoid needless walking and improve the general efficiency of your picking. It'll also mean you can have a couple of trollies on the go at a time.
Does that make sense. I know what I mean, but I'm not sure I've expressed it particularly well.
The problem is that a lot of the time there'll only be one item per order. They've been hazy about how many orders we're allowed to put in one box so I'm limiting it to one as I think that's what they prefer. If I have six orders with only one item per order that means I might travel in that space of time the full length of the run (e.g. 1 order contains 1 item at location Z and another contains 1 item at location A, the other 4 orders have items at locations inbetween the two) and getting only SIX picks done, when I've got in my hand 72 to get through. We're supposed to do 60 picks per hour. 72 takes me about an hour and a half maybe a bit more. Thanks for the help though.
are all roughly in the same area, as that's logical, but I still don't get through it anywhere near as fast as the lad that started on the same day as me.
It's too specific really for anyone to give advice unless they worked at the same place. I'm just typing what I'm thinking and it's therapeutic and I'm dying for a cup of tea lol.
I used help out in the warehouse sometimes at my first job where we'd have to pick sky boxes but that was easy as the warehouse was small and there were only a few types of boxes.
You can only do as much as you can do really. Don't worry about it so much
you're a mong.
if you're a mong, won't they just expect less from you, which is fine unless you are RAW MAN OF AMBITION and would like to be a supervisor or manager or that.
Which are you?
RAW MAN OF AMBITION
MEH LAMB OF MONG
It's just a job mate. I've been terrible at quite a few jobs. It happens.
You are destined for GREATER THINGS than shelf unstacking.
Have you watched what colleagues do to see if there are any shortcuts you could take to kepe up, or perhaps a more intuitive method?
But one ends up worrying about the fact that one should be order picking and not person gawping
don't worry anyway everyone's shit at their job when they start
My recommendation would be to work with less skilled colleagues. You look better.
