I'm going there next week. What's good to do/see?
But you've missed it. So probably just watch a monobrowed freak sleep with his sister or something.
maybe that. was ace when i was about 6.
last time I went there, we went for a walk from Yarmouth, up to the Needles, over Tennyson down, to Freshwater Bay, then back to Yarmouth. Was pretty tired at the end but the views were pleasant.
I imagine half the stuff i used to see there when i was little has fallen into the sea by now tho
that was fun. thank you i love wight.
there were some nice tea towels outside a shop on a road somewhere in ryde, should have got one really, wasn't thinking, too much boozing you see. had a nice sausage roll from a place further up the same hill on the left, somewhere before you get to dominoes. saw some cows at one point, not sure if you're a cattle enthusiast or not?
A Theme park / adventure park where consistently increasing amounts of it fall into the sea each year
Needles rocks and lighthouse, right next to Alum Bay with multicoloured sand cliffs. You have to use a precarious cablecar to get down to the sea
There's a nice seafront walk from Ryde on the East Coast past Puckpool and then down to Bembridge where I got lost.
Ventnor has some nice botanical gardens
Godshill model village for quaint English thrills
Shanklin the down is a bit of a dive, but Shanklin Chine and Old Village are amazing, and at the opposite end of the same street. The crazy golf course in Shanklin Chine might be the best I've ever played on.
Freshwater and Compton Bay are pretty good beaches.
I quite like Cowes, and there's a fun chain ferry you can take from East to West Cowes.
I definitely recommend buying one of those bus passes (if you're not driving of course) to get around. I think it's 18 pounds and you can take any on the island for a week.
Ignore the pathetic 'hurrrr they're all inbred comments' above (and probably below). It's quite a nice place.
When you get on the ferry there are a couple of decent tourist mags that neatly summarise most of what The Island has to offer. If the weather is good hire bikes - altho maybe stay off the west coast, that can be fairly bleak. Unless you like bleak.
Go on the funfair, go to 007s 'the international restaurant of mystery' and then get yourself to the codfather: they'll 'batter anything'. Then go and visit my friend wallis.
Here's what to do:
BLACKGANG CHINE. It's fucking trippy.
PUBS. The New Inn, Shalfleet is great. Good seafood. If you've got a car just drive round and there are lovely country pubs with good ale and beer gardens everywhere. The White Lion, Arreton is good too.
GODSHILL: go to the Cider Barn and buy some 'Super Cock' cider. Get a cream tea and go to the model village.
COWES: lots of good pubs. The Anchor and the Fountain. Walk along the seafront and get an ice cream and watch the boats. Get the FLOATING BRIDGE (fuck call it the 'chain ferry' to East Cowes) and if you're that way inclined you can walk up to Osborne House from there.
Seasidey-places: Shanklin to Sandown walk. Laugh at the puns on the beach huts. Go in Sandown pier and have a laugh at the Jurassic CRAZY golf.
If you want any info, just ASK.
the Compton Bay - Brook bit of the coast is great. Good for wind/kite surfing.
made by antony minghella's family and really the best ice cream i've ever had outside of italy. can be purchased on the sea front at cowes or in tubs in deli's and so on. sadly they're redoing the website, not because it didn't need doing but because the chaotic structure really underlined how much of a family business it is.
You could watch some ice hockey. The Wightlink Raiders are playing next weekend and are a pretty good side. Check them out here http://wightlinkraiders.com/ They're a 10 min drive from where the ferry comes in.
they've got my new phone and I want it
only remember Blackgang Chine, so that... the are dinosaurs!
And my satchel. And Fatty. Thanks.
If I was ever playing up on a family holiday, my parents would threaten to take me there. It's that bad.
