But it does mean that NOT A SINGLE FUCK WILL BE GIVEN during that entire period. It's not as if they can sack you during your notice period is it?
I did a 2 month stint after quitting one post. It was a bit grim, the boss started giving me all the tedious and crap stuff to do. So I automated most of the tedium sheets, didn't tell them, then deleted all the updated report sheets the day before I left.
I also started slacking LIKE MY BOSS towards the end by syncing my lunch breaks with hers and also slinking off when she went into meetings/had to do interviews for a replacement.
You need to know how to work this to your advantage.
Why'd you quit? Just out of sheer nosiness.
I quit because I've decided to take the plunge into freelance writing (predominantly film journalism) and I intend to support this with part-time work and other freelance work in areas in which I've picked up experience and built up contacts in the last 2 1/2 years.
I've planned it for ages, and have just been pragmatic about when I leave so I can earn as much as possible. The side-effect of that is that I've basically not had any motivation to do anything for about 3 months, and as I'm a generally conscientious person, it makes me feel guilty. But not to the extent where I'll actually do anything.
There are also 'push' factors - the company is a real shambles although the people are generally nice, and it's not the kind of place where you can come in, get your head down, and go home to concentrate on your hobby. It's crisis after crisis!
So, yeah. That's why!
Best of luck with it all
I managed to negoptiate it down to 3, but still, it was awful. I feel your pain but at least you know you're nearly out of there.
i don't mind really, as in that few months i'd probably still be doing loads of other things even though. and the industry is so incestious that any mark i leave on my name will likely come and bite my in my arse later on.
give you gardening leave if you're generally lazy and obstructive, give that a go.
... I've just discovered today my contract isn't going to be renewed as my post is being dissolved. So as of October 18th I will have no job :(
