Will that be the first or second half of the race!!??? Amirite, eh?
read this after i woke up ,it sounds like a big mess to me..what is the point in showing half a season free to air
i am a hardcore fan, watch practise, every qualy and race live and i'm simply not paying £20+ to sky a month, torrents here we come
F1 >>>>>>>>> Champions League Football.
Quadruple that and you're getting nearer...
for SS1 and SS2 on Freeview. Although it wouldn't surprise me if Practices at least were hived off into SS3 or 4.
That's all there'll be. They're price freezing the rest of the year and after that it changes. Cheaper for some, bugger for others.
given the value free-to-air TV provides to the teams. Sky'll struggle to provide much better coverage than the BBC already do; it's not like in '97 or 2008 where things needed a massive shake up. Bernie's on the way to shooting himself in the foot is part-pay TV is his new strategy, as the teams'll demand a bigger share to make up for the reduced value of sponsorship.
I stopped watching it so much when it went to ITV as I couldn't stand their coverage and the ads.
As I've refused to get Sky now for a decade, I shall hold true to this. Still, it's not all bad. We've still got the crick-, no, the foot-... hang on, the.... er... tiddlywinks?
I know they have to cut a LOT of money this year and F1 is a luxury in every sense of the word. But the trouble is, things seem to never come back when Sky get them.
I hate their policy. Let Channel 4 and BBC get people into new shows, buy the rights up to them from Season 2 onwards.
They should try making their own fucking programmes maybe. And I don't mean 'Lets dance with Davina McCall' and a yearly Pratchett adaptation starring David Jason.
how many people ARE blaming the BBC. Personally, I'm frankly amazed that they've managed to keep any of the rights when Sky are in the picture.
Comments filled with pillocks slagging off the BBC for pretty much everything
In Spain when they broadcast adverts during F1 they reduce the race so it fits in a quarter of the screen in the top right hand corner and the ads run a quarter of the screen on the bottom left hand corner.Nothing is missed and ads are still broadcasts.
That said I ain't getting SKY - I'm sure the internet will provide the solution.
but i suppose it will mean more pubs will start showing f1. i actually had to watch the british gp in a pub due to technical difficulties (ie no tv) and it was surprisingly good on the big screen. won't work for the more obscure time zones tho i guess...
Okay, two/three years ago my attitude would've been very different probably. But honestly, I do still care about F1, just it annoys me more than it gives me pleasure, so I can take this as a good opportunity to stay away. If anything, I think I'm more pissed off by this arrangement than if they just scrapped it all together. It seems like an attempt at placating everyone that's instead just going to piss of everyone.
And yet another way in which MotoGP >>>>>>>>>> F1. I pay about £85 a year for MotoGP.com access, which not only gives me all the sessions live (or whenever you want them), but highlights of every race in every category from 1992, and full coverage of all races since 2002.
was hoping it'd go to Channel 4 though, dunno if they bidded.
oh well, just have to stream the Sky GPs from somewhere
I'm sure the Beeb will retain those, at least for this year.
would guess it'll probably end up more like the old pre '97 Grand Prix packages though - just stuff cut together with a voice over.
that the BBC have highlights of those races that they're not showing live. Hope they give them a bit longer than the hour they get on BBC3 these days though, that doesn't quite seem to do them justice.
ruined my day. Ot just wont be the same, and will diminish support for the sport in this country.
Im gutted; as is the kid in me who's family didn't have the dough for a Sky Sports sub, and who's one bonding exercise with his father was the F1 on a Sunday.
I have Sky and everything but I just like it when some things are on "terrestrial" alone.
I wonder how long Wimbledon and the World Cup will last :(
of FIFA being pissed that they couldn't sell the rights for the 2014 World Cup to Subscription TV over here...
everything to pay-TV, with only the Final and home nations games having to be broadcast on Free-to-air channels.
but only because it justifies my sky sports package a little bit more, started to feel like I was getting conned.
is that you /still/ have to watch adverts.
It's frankly incredible that the whole of the BBC manages to do what it does on twelve quid a month without the aid of adverts.
Is there likely to be an option to buy internet coverage direct from F1, or whoever?
Formula 1 are way behind the curve when it comes to their internet prescence, as PocketMouse implies up above. If the BBC are still able to stream their events live, that suggests Sky'll have exclusive rights to stream the other half on Sky Go.
so this year: my favourite driver has an accident that nearly ends his career, the start of the season is delayed, a driver i don't really rate runs away with the championship AND NOW THIS
2. Even if it was, it's going to stop an awful lot of young people getting into F1, which is sad. I mean, what... 'Yay, let's gather the family round the computer to watch the F1!' Sounds great.
then the world will be a happier place, was bemused when someone kept on showing us youtube videos huddled over a 15inch screen when they had a HDMI port AND a HD TV in the same room! Silly people
Or an HD TV?
For some reason, F1 doesn't seem like quite such a sport that'll work on the radio
and much of the credit for that goes to David Croft, who's excellent (and I had down for the main commentry spot on TV) but it's certainly not as good without pictures.
However, that's not to say that this is a big loss for the sport and the BBC. It's also not really that big a gain for Sky Sports either, surely; they don't even acknowledge the existence of F1 on their channels right now, it's only tennis/cricket/football/boxing.
i dont follow the f1 closely enough to care, but i did watch some races on the bbc because they were on the bbc. fuck that - i have decided not to get sky before this, and just pay for NHL and NFL directly. this won't change.
