It's boring and doesn't impress me no matter how elaborate the trick is
the only exception being GOB's magic tricks in Arrested Development, which are among the best things about the programme.
A trick is something a whore does for money
Hmm, I think magic tricks are generally meant for kids, who are less jaded and find what we think of as mundane and easily explainable to be fascinating
That said I quite like Derren Brown, and think his live shows are fantastic.
Let's call him Mr Gigantic Cunt used to do magic down Covent Garden...and at house parties...and at BBQs...and on visits to my mum's home...and in the pub...and on the bus...and generally any public place where people could look at him and go WOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW.
was he australian, that would really seal the deal
who lived in Sloane Square.
He did travel to Australia though, and Thailand, and spent 20,000 on hookers, drugs, booze and 'finding himself'.
This is all true, as much of a cliche I wish it was.
I can think of better things to call him than that though ;)
You all seem to be getting it confused with books.
to wander through the crowd making cards appear.
A bloke I knew at university used to make a point of taking a pack of cards out with him so he had an excuse to talk to girls. This never once succeeded in impressing women into bed, but I do remember him once performing a card trick for two bemused girls with a set of rather graphic adult playing cards. He didn't see the problem with his approach.
It's not that I'm not impressed per se, I just hate being misled or anyone having knowledge of something that I don't. "Look at this! Look at this! I'm doing this thing and you can't work out how!" Yeah? Well FUCK YOU. And when people say "Knowing how it works ruins the wonder" - I don't give a shit. I don't want wonder. I'm not 8. What I want is to know how he's making his fucking penis play the giant, fabric keyboard.
Smooth.FM all the way for me.
'ooh look what i can do that you cant!'. boring.
but I still watch all of those.
he'd show you. magicians are all like, 'aha thats MAGIC!'. wankers.
I admire the showmanship of a good magician, and I love trying to work out how tricks are done (and usually failing). More interesting than ballet or the opera at least. Stuff like The Prestige and the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay use magic in really interesting ways too.
Everytime I see him I feel like flicking him away
He was always doing tricks, the wee scamp.
i've really enjoyed the first 2 shows, i hope he sticks to that style of stuff and doesn't migrate to the david blaine "sitting in a box/block of ice/pile of shit for 40 days and nights" shtick
It was ace.
Not so fussed about other magicians though.
If you don't, we RUIN YOUR CAREER. I don't think that would be a very good deal.
without going into all the details.
(apart from TV Burp, obviously, but that’s tea time rather than prime time)
They do usually give the name of the technique, to demonstrate to the contestant that they’ve figured it out, but in a way that means that they don’t tell the audience the secret.
