Personally, I think the line-up is pretty stale.
I agree! I am trying to work out if I should go or not..
I don't think the line up is as bad as people are making out. Even the headliners are alright, MCR will be a bit of fun, The Strokes play a lot of Is This It/Room On Fire stuff live, and Muse are doing Origin Of Symmetry (their best album) in full. Plus a load of decent bands playing lower down.
1999, trust me, the line-up is stale. Certain bands seem to have some kind of five year contract to play Reading and Leeds every fucking year.
Even I felt old!
Some good memories though.
even if the tickets were free and tom waits was headlining.
The general age profile of people who use the Social board is probably a bit above that. I haven't been since I was 19, and I'm now 23, but when I went it was full of teenagers just getting absolutely wasted, riots, that sort of thing... and I think a lot of DiSers probably steer clear of it for those reasons. It's also overly expensive, and a bit mainstream for some.
If I was offered tickets, I'd definitely go, and I do recall my years of going (2005, 2006 and 2007) with fond memories, but I can't see myself ever really being excited about going in future.
I think my favourite Reading was when Prodigy played.
had a brilliant time but never again! It's since been eclipsed by other festivals for me which offer a lot more... the tickets are only 120 at the moment due to it being undersold but even then I would find it hard to justify.
If anyone gave me a free ticket though.... I'd probably go ;) I would just avoid camping there.
Not sure if I'll go though.
Rough crowd, poor facilities, crap night time entertainment, weak line up for the price.
I'd struggle to justify going if I was given a free ticket... would maybe pop along for the Pulp day and get the fuck out of there after the sun goes down.
30 mins walk home from the gates, that made it a lot more tolerable when it was a good line-up and i was able to fuck off home and sleep. the sunday night camping is awful and ruins it all
i'm 19. that and the line up is balls.
We're going but only because we have comps as a friend is playing, and we'll be staying in the secured site, so as not to get set on fire during the night. There's plenty I want to see on the line-up, even if it does lack a bit of imagination.
I haven't been in reading and not been to the fest since 1998, I always seem to fold, and it'll be well tough, even though I'm not mega excited about the line up (it isn't as bad as people make out though)
And I like the line-up, especially saturday.
