Mine is cashew.
Best of the best. Especially with dried cranberries. Yes-sir-ee.
is it arh-mond or all-mond?
Like Al-mond. Like it's written? As in theres a guy called Al whose surname is Mond.
And thats how I say it. SO.THERE. I'm saying it wrong.
it drives my dad nuts! (see what I did there?)
I have many oriental friends who would find this quite upsetting.
There's an L in it
I like them but they're too much hassle.
is a bit of a pisstakio.
in holland and barrett, I think.
A pistachio is the richest nut of them all. Meaning that the process of de-shelling, and eating, an individual nut and then waiting a while for the next one is the best way of consuming the mighty pistachio.
If you bang about a dozen all in at the same time it really, really is too much. Diminishing returns like no other nut.
Pistachios really are marvellous though.
I only stopped because it started to hurt my nails.
but recently i found out how good cashews can be
The marmite coated ones currently available are right up there with the all-time great snacks
In toffee - Brazil
In ice cream - Pecan
In a pastry - Pecan
In chocolate - Hazel
In salt - Cashew
Lonesome Pine (nut)
You might as well eat pencil shavings.
I'll happily eat them when they're put in stuff like cakes or chocolate, or I'll nibble on them if someone buys them at the pub, but they're not all that. Most people only eat them when they're massively flavoured or used with something else, so everyone else clearly tacitly accepts they're a bit lame.
They're not in the same league as crisps.
First Harry Potter, and now this?!
hot and sour cashew salad.
Whats it like?
That's a decent no-nonsense nut. Never be the belle of the ball, but you can set your watch by it
chalk it up Lucien, chalk it up
but not on their own.
in a spinach, grape tomato, parmesan and pine nut salad.
I guess you need peanuts to make peanut butter so...
Is almond the only nut that you don't say "nut" after?
Like you don't say "brazil" (looking forward to the simpsons quote though!)
What's a cob nut anyone?
I like nuts.
According to Wikipedia, most of the nuts in this thread aren't actually nuts.
and confirm pine nuts are before I launch into a blistering attack on the ignorance of people in this thread
People who attend farmers markets and wear sandals eat them all the time with, I dunno, quince jam or something I expect.
for in cooking/cakes/flavouring whatever - almond
for eating roasted and salted - pistachio
IT DOESN'T DEPEND. THATS NOT THE QUESTION. If I wanted to know what nut you liked with chocolate or ice cream or in dinner, I would have asked that.
what you gonna dos?
And the bags are too big. They need to sell them in tiny health-sized bags - it's almost beyond the realms of human strength to stop eating cashews once you've started getting your cashew eat on.
once you get in the zone you're cracking them open and consuming within milliseconds, and then onto the next one like a Naked Gun pistachio loving robot of some sort. Then they're all gone, your nails are broken there's bits of shell everywhere and you're contemplating searching through the debris to find the nuts your abandoned earlier as they proved to be too tricky and slowed everything down.
just pointing out they cost more than most other nuts
There was a thing about them going up in price due to a shortage.
WHAT A PULLAVA.
This is why they're expensive.
But then you knew that.
This place is going down the tubes.
I was going to post this. 14 minutes too late...
fuck me, thought it wasn't going to come up at all for a sec there
I'm actually pretty ashamed of myself for posting it
i make a really good tiffin style biscuit thing with macadamias.
they are MEGA fattening though
The original but still the best. Largely unpopular now though due to Guardianista fretting about "ooh ooh they're really bad for you" and more poncier nuts gaining more airtime.
Unfair, unjust, unbelievable. The Salted Peanut - the Prince of Snacks.
i really want some salted peanuts now.
and i've had a pistachio craving for ages too.
