The teachers are striking this thursday in birmingham - here are the reasons why I feel they are a little selfish
a) they get paid more than Mrs Knees (by whatever measure, pro-rata, hourly.
b) The teachers have decided to strike alone, they consider their claim to be different from other workers.
c) other staff at the school are not just having their pensions frozen, they are being forced out of their current pension plan. they are also having a cut in their ot (even though the work is not decreasing and the ot was necessary to do it) they are also having the holiday pay reduced (teachers are not)
d) Teachers have decided that because they want to keep their present pension situation (even though everyone else is havinbg theirs altered) that they will have strikes.....which mean that people who have small children at school will incur cost to look after them (I am not in this situation) ..........if people protest and smash things up in their anger, other third parties incur costs thru no fault of their own......this is usually cited as being the reason why such actions are criminal and wrong.
Why is it not considered to be wrong when a bunch of well paid, well side benefitted group of people, perform deliberate actions which will incur cost for other innocent people, some of whom may be paid considerably less than the teachers?
Why do teachers not take their protest and direct it towards the government rather than the country's populace as a whole
(its like (OK it isnt the severity is vastly different, but the crapness of the priciple is the same) the sanctions in iraq...hurt the people of iraq (whom saddaam demonstrably didnt give a shit about) in order to make saddam behave in a particular way.....dur!
