What more do people want from me? (Customer service-centric)
Just been covering reception in my place of work for a portion of the day. Reception is fully staffed and naturally there are busier times and quieter times. It turns out Saturday mornings are quite busy, because that's when most people use the gym, go swimming with their kids, play badminton or put their kids in swimming lessons.
A big queue at reception and many people want to re-book their children on the upcoming swim course as the deadline is soon. This takes approximately 3-4 minutes per customer as you have to get them to choose a date they can do and then take the card payment. A guy then comes up to reception and slams a fiver down and throws his member card on the desk as he is a pay and go member. The following short conversation happens:
*slams money down and card down*
Me: What would you like to do today sir?
Him: Gym
* I swipe card and click 'gym session' on computer screen*
Me: £5.20 please
*I take money and give the receipt*
Me: Thanks you.
The whole process took around 30 seconds, if that. He walks away and sees my manager and says 'Your reception staff are absolutely awful'
I'm polite, process customers as quickly as possible and always apologise if there's a queue and they've had to wait a few minutes.
SO ANNOYING! There was another guy like this today around the same time who was shouting at the manager who said 'I have to wait 3 or 4 minutes every Saturday morning, this is crap, your centre is crap'.
Are these people serious?
If I didn't care too much about my job I'd seriously put these people in their place.
