San Francisco are thinking about it. On considering the arguments, I'm going to go with "yes".
but the response is so predicatable I don't dare.
Us dayshifters are just responding to belm-like remarks from the nightshift in turn.
it's bad enough entering into discussions on this with rational people on twitter
DiS is a maelstrom compared to that
Lo, Frankenstein - Behold his creature!
We'll all have to accept these kind of cuts.
Done me no harm. The only time it's ever affected me is when anyone talks about foreskins and i have to sit there, with a blank look on my face.
I think it should be banned if it's not for medical reasons. If it's for religious reasons, then no.
i obviously don't mind someone wanting it done if they are of age, and understand it, but for it being done to children and instigated by their parents, religious reasons or not, then yep. ban it.
But... I think it's absolutely fine for medical reasons, but dubious (from a consent point of view) wghere done for purely religious reasons on wee ones.
Although one would imagine that most children's..... oh no, i'm not going down the road of talking about children's willies. Oh I just did.
If it’s necessary for health reasons, it should be allowed, and I suspect that this will be the loophole that allows parents to put their boys through the procedure.
It won't become law though.
but then I'm not a religious group
surgical removal of the clitoris and other pleasure generating organs in a deliberate ritual to hold a female out of the paths of earthly temptation so that she can remain an unquestioning chattel of her male owner (whether father or husband)
the equivalent male circumcision would be to remove the entire glans, not merely the foreskin
it doesn't require your vagina being sown up and possibly your clitoris being sliced off all at the tender age of 5 to then have it ripped open by a grown man during your wedding night consummation.
i retract my statement.
it is usually people who don't really know exactly what female genital mutilation involves who think it and circumcision are equivalent
so good for you for not trying to defend a pretty indefensible position
The article sets out the reasons why I don’t think religious people should be able to claim that circumcision of males is worthy of an exception to the law.
It might be less traumatic than female genital mutilation, but I don’t think that there’s a sliding scale on this really.
that depends entirely on your personal point of view of the principle of whether as a parent you should have any right over the body of your child
but to say that the practices of circumcision and female genital mutilation are not different or are in any way practically equivalent is patently untrue
it almost looks like you did say that though
but anyway, the two things are completely not equivalent
this is clearly a divisive issue among religions
I think female genital mutilation should absolutely be banned
I find it hard to consider the 'problem' of circumcision in the same way
until they are old enough to make their own decision about it.
but it is also part of the indoctrination of children into religions and some won't question it, and as such that's terrible.
I’d like to think that I was able to trust them to make their own decision about it, rather than getting them baptised before they can even eat solids.
Does it make it less icky?
My friends boyfriend got it done. He was about 26 at the time.
to become infected and serve as the breeding ground for a terrifying 28 Days Lateresque viral zombie plague.
Con: desensitises your cock a bit, sort of like using those Durex extra safe.
but that's only a good argument when men don't wash their dicks well. I guess there's other complications, like when it's too small to cover the head, but also sometimes there's too much of it, or in even worse circumstances, there's too little stretchiness, which means it hurts when it is pulled back. BUT in these circumstances it's FINE, in my mind.
But I don't know if there are any other benefits that aren't required by medical reasons. I think that both sides have pros and cons (the risk of infection and diminished sexual feeling after the proceedure compared to infection without cleaning) bring it down to the fact that it's fairly barbaric and completely without regard for the child when a parent imposes it their kid.
The truth is that (like halal or kosher meat), it has its origins in sensible health concerns in the desert countries from a couple of thousand years ago, but that modern living has made it rather redundant from a practical view.
It can lead to medical problems where it constricts and gets a bit nasty.
Some people claim it's unhygenic, but I don't really see why if you're not a hideous dirtbox.
(just out of interest)
except for incest and rape.
This wouldn't even be a controversial issue if it weren't a practice that our culture has historically accepted (or at least, been apathetic about). I'd be cautious to compare it to female genital mutilation, for pretty much the reasons Anschul suggests, but it's ritual mutilation nevertheless.
It's had pretty much zero impact of my life.
Dunno why it was done though, as my parents aren't the slightest bit properly religious, and also Irish Catholics - not really a well known circumcision bastion.
Probably wouldn't do it to my kids though unless it was medical. If only just so I don't have to answer awkward questions in their teenage years
sex might feel entirely different to you and you don't even know it!!!!
People on DiS always know better than you, even if you're talking about your own life
if you're talking about your own penis. EVEN then.
That was me on tame.
I can turn the dial up a couple of notches if you'd like
If it was for medical reasons, then presumably there was justification for doing it (in which case it probably has had an impact), and if it wasn’t, then you can’t compare it to anything else as you don’t know any different.
Anyway, as impressive as it surely is, I don’t really want to spend a Tuesday afternoon talking about your John Thomas.
Go and eat a bowl of razor blades chumpzilla
at least judging from your attitude today
it's so funny because it's so true.
let's keep it
Is that (again, like halal or kosher food) what was the most hygienic method a couple of thousand years ago has now been surpassed by modern medical methods. Many (if not most) of the problems associated with circumcision are as a result of them being undertaken following religious protocol and methods.
I mean, surely there has to be a better way than this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brit_milah#Metzitzah_technique
or that said ban would do anything more than putting children at greater risk due to lack of medical involvement?
You sort stuff like this out through liberal education and having good arguments, not with a blanket ban.
might make a compelling case to stop the practise.
People are weird though. They never react how I expect. It's why I'm not an economist.
Especially in America, where plenty of Christians get the chop for religious reasons.
there are different types of fgm and the most common type is the removal of the clitoral hood which is EXACTLY THE same as removing foreskin
(I'm basing this purely on 80% of the men I know)
I've gone all wrong. Please PLEASE ignore this post. Please. Thanks.
I was going to suggest dinner, but I'd rather you just separated my cream from my meat.
I've been in the sun all day. This is my only defence.
have you only slept with men who have infected willies?
I was thinking of vesectomy. As you were.
It's the fear of being one of the 80%...
More like saying "if you can't justify it for medical reasons, the hospital/doctor won't do it". I suppose Jewish people have that ceremonial doctor guy who does the tinkering with babies. He'd be out of work. Nobody's thinking of this guy, are they?
and he uses his teeth
but if in the future somebody wanted to have their ear lobes chopped off for cosmetic or medical reasons, i'd let them.
Obviously male circumcision is exactly the same as chopping off ear lobes.
Local anesthetic, scissors, blood everywhere. Anesthetic ran out during the stitching; the skin on the table looked like jellied eel.
Sensitivity dissappeared. You can basically slam it with a hammer now and I'll feel fuck all.
I blame blowing my was on a subscription to bdsmlounge.com on this traumatic experience
and when I was young I thought there was a ball shaped thing inside your foreskin that spun around to let wee come out, much like the mechanism in a hamster/guinea pig's water bottle or a ball point pen. I used to get scared that if I tried to pull back my foreskin then the ball would fall out and nothing would work. If circumcisions are to be banned then children must be educated on how these things really work to prevent any worry.
of a ball point pen and a water bottle before the working of his own weewee
the mechanism of a foreskined penis is silent and hidden, so I just assumed it worked the same way for some reason
or is that irrelevant to the discussion?
Seeing as the books of law are common to both of those and also to the Qu'ran. Differing levels of adherence obviously due to the differing viewpoints on the importance of these 5 books.
I found this though...
but it views circumcision in the New Testament rather than the Old Testament.
It's also probably biased in favour of it's own agenda, but still.
Genital Integrity Awareness Week in the States this week.
IS YOUR COCK WHOLE?
tells me more about you and the guys you are trying to blow, tbh.
Unless they're one of those weird babies who are born with teeth, in which case they should be allowed to keep them as a prize.
then when jewish boys come of age they can choose to have a coming of age rite (even if they are cajouled by their community into having it)
It's called a Bar Mitzvah. According to the Bible, "every male shall be circumcised when he is eight days old". The time is not flexible.
it would be best if they were flexible enough to adapt, after all cultures and societies seem to have managed to adopt to such unbiblical things as cars and tvs etc.
Ah. Didn't clock that.
I've just checked mine, looks intact.
I also asked it to fill out a personal ethics survey.
It only got 65% in that.
How's your cocks?
