Plenty of respectable words & phrases today have their origins in mispronunciation or misunderstanding.
Still, I'm always torn between tolerance & contempt when people say things like Mischievious.
Orangutang though is probably a grey area, I know it's supposed to be orang UTAN but I feel more like a twat saying it that way than the "wrong" way.
My mother is pretty bad, she says "restaurant" with the French pronunciation, on the grounds that it's a French word. Really embarrassing.

you sound like you only made it to mid-primary?
i.e. swallowing the final syllable and pronouncing the Rs in that back-of-the-throat way that Johnny Foreigner does. Like I said, embarrassing.
instead of uh-rang-uh-tan
personally, I prefer or-range-uh-tan. cos they're orange innit. so that's blates what they'd prefer to be called.
