I'm going to Birmingham. Hooray.
today will be a moocher. jog, wank, walk into town, lunch, telly, read, etc etc. gonna start lolita today, then we can talk nabokov hip.
p.s have you read/read about that woman's book on nabokov that's just come out? i think she cherry picks stuff relating to ecastatic happiness or something, i can't remember.
tomorrow. gonna go into big london to watch le quatre volte and then meet some pals in the evening for larks.
Sounds interesting though.
i just glanced at the paper and saw the name of the reviewer. the guardian always get me with that when they put the reviewer's name in lights at the top
Hope you do to.
just trying to decide what cinema to go to. getting a bit bored of the curzons.
any ideas anyone?
No idea about which cinema. Whichever one serves beer. Or the best ice cream.
Start reading Pale Fire.
i've just thrown my copy of lolita in the bin on your advice. hope my local waterstone's has a copy of pale fire in stock.
The main idea/conceit of Pale Fire is much better than that of Lolita. I really like the mania of the sorta-central character too.
And still have no idea what is going on.
I have an exam today. Fuck. My weekend will be determined by my elation or depression flowing from today.
I'm sure there are people who shun this and think you should interpret it yourself, but I say fuck it, just point out the clues and tell me what's going on.
Good luck with exam champ, I'm sure you'll do fine.
Pale Fire is incredible, but is a massive headfuck. It would be like listening to Kid A before you ever heard the Bends or OK Computer. Read Lolita first.
Pale Fire is too high-concept to be readable, just something to stroke your beard to. Lolita manages to be a stylistic but in such a way that its styling works with the plot brilliantly.
It may be high concept, but it's not unreadable. It's practically a murder-mystery for crying out loud, complete with dramatic escapes from foreign palaces, unstoppable assassins, and thinly-disguised homosexual longings.
It is worth having two copies of though, so you can read the poetry and the annotations without having to flick.
It's a nice idea, but it doesn't work as a novel. Like you say, you need two copies on the go to read it properly. It's more like one of those 'If yes, turn to page 103' adventure novels in that respect. Lolita manages to be both high-concept and a readable novel, and the two things work together which is one of the reasons it's so good.
I want to set it as my ringtone for when (if) hip rings me.
I particularly like the double tracking on 'fantastic'
Tonight: Local gallery opening night thing. Attack the Block is on @ silly o'clock, so maybe go and see Senna afterwards instead.
Tomoz: Country show thing to see beasts and stuff. Outsider art type thing exhibition after that. Maybe a run after that.
Sun: Karting grand prix. Putting quite a bit of pressure on myself, as per usual, to do well.
you can do it! you are a Karting GOD!
p.s.. I know I don't know you, but I felt like being supportive.
night out in manchester, involving nandos and deaf institute probably.
lunch with a friend. Then on a train down to the smoke for (hopefully) new job.
sunday: getting my shit together, chilling out with friends probably and preparing for my first day of my trial week. wootens.
We need to get you employed and back at DiS footy!
Seeing Low tonight. Not got any plans for the rest of the weekend except to buy a clothes horse. I just need to sit down lots after Primavera I think.
I'm really not keen on going to Birmingham, even though it's to see two old friends, one of whom I haven't seen in about a year. Is it really bad that I just think it will be slightly awkward and I CBA?
But I'm sure it'll be fine and dandy once you get there.
TONIGHT - watch the rest of Justified season 1, maybe play some halo
TOMORROW - assisting my dad with pulling tree stumps out the ground using A MASSIVE TRACTOR. Some sort of wedding piss-up thing in the evening.
SUNDAY - some bit of hangover probably
When attempting to drag tree stumps out of the ground, use normal rope, not bungee cord.
tomorrow: picking up my new bike, going for a bike ride with bf, cooking and eating
sunday: COLCHESTER ZOO!
I'm far too excited for this weekend.
We got my mum a day as a park keeper there for her birthday the other year. We got her the penguin/sea-lion day. Apparently it was wonderful.
I'm well excited.
and Colchester’s was definitely the best
It will be something of a disappointment if the evening doesn't end with olegrich and I realising we're on the wrong bus home.
Football, takeaway and probably some computer game playing for the rest of the weekend.
I'll go watch that. It'll be shit, but someone I know did all the blue make up in it.
then going to a party.
Tomorrow I don't know, I keep thinking the Now Wave night will be massively good but I don't know. If I'm out tonight then maybe tomorrow might be nice to chill and watch films and play computer games.
Possibly a BBQ on Sunday, or a bike ride, or the cinema. Who knows!
BRING IT ON!
old people eh?
I’m going to see Low at the Barbican this evening, and then I’m off to the last Something Serious. I have a friend’s wedding on Saturday evening.
I shall probably spend Sunday pulling together my CV. I haven’t applied for a job in eight years…
tonight: out in Birmingham, few different options, none of them that thrilling.
tomorrow: freelance work, curry, see girlfriend.
Sunday: lichfield cathedral, oddly enough.
as I've heard there will be free booze.
Tomorrow, Sunday, Monday- Recording the new When A Train Hits A Truck record! The studio we're using has gone 'all analogue' n that, so it might be a bit different!
got a work meeting but im not actually at work in the day. dunno how long that will last.
going to the same art degree show as thesoundofbastards tonight.
dunno about the weekend, but i'll be hungover tomorrow.
Tomorrow I have a 12 hour coach journey and i'm going to miss dr who :(
Sunday going to see the pains of being pure at heart :)
Monday i start my new job :/
might go and see win win or x men on sunday too.
then going for drink with uni mates from the year below me. 2nd + 3rd years shared lectures so many of the year below were good friends of mine. today they're doing their final 3rd year performances so they'll be celebrating and i want to share in (steal) their fun.
tomorrow i'm going to a party, and sunday my mum is helping me finish moving into my new flat. i've been here for a month but have been without most of my stuff.
Saturday - Picnic --> Drinking
Sunday - DIY --> Sleeping
Tomorrow I start my 30 day yoga challenge (another one)
Sunday probably go for a ride to Regents Park - weather permitting.
I'm suspicious of this 'Bikram' branding though. Always sounds akin to saying something like 'do Reebok aerobics' or 'play Adidas football' to me.
That aside, you've provided another reminder that I need to pull my finger out and sort out some replacement yoga classes for the ones that stopped. Here we go.
The actual premise of the technique is spot on though, if tortuous. I've just bought an obscene bikini for my holiday in 2 weeks, and if I was to put it on right now, people would run screaming from me and throw themselves into the sea. A couple of bikram classes next week though and I'll be RIPPED. It actually is a miracle. And I've seen newbies who can't even touch their knees never mind their toes leave thier first class able to place the palms of their hands on the floor, knees straight. It's super, DO IT!
with her favourite yoga pose(?), least favourite, one that reminds her of summer etc etc.
Wasn't just my mates then...
DAY 21: Post a song that reminds you of the last time you were horribly unwell
DAY 18: Post a song that reminds you of the futility of human existence
DAY 9: Post the last song that was playing on the most recent occasion you went for a meal at your local Harvester
My weekend will consist of Something Serious tonight and a fuckload of Portal 2.
Aiming for a month.
I feel like killing someone.
Tonight: Birthday party
Tomorrow: Going to Wales for my mum's birthday. Going to a jazzzzz night with her.
Sunday going to a blues thing with her and have surprised her by buying her a saxaphone which one of the musicians is going to give her in the middle of their set.
I am so skint now.
i'd be well happy if someone bought me an instrument. and if i was given in the middle of a gig it would be even better!
nice work :)
Tomorrow, a friend is planning some drinks in london, I should probably go, might get there early and take a look at the tracey emin retrospective.
Sunday = recovering, sleeping
I am going to see Belle & Sebastian tonight and for the rest of the time I will be AT THE PUB.
BY THE WAY DOES ANYONE WANT A STANDING TICKET TO SEE BELLE AND SEBASTIAN IN LEEDS TONIGHT? YOU'D PROBABLY MAKE ME REALLY HAPPY. OR UNHAPPY. DEPENDS WHAT WILL MAKE YOU BUY IT.
you're all bastards.
going out for welcome drinks for the new guy at work
he's been here a week now and still wears a tie! pfft , no-one wears ties, i usually wear t-shirts and shades and shit. will have a word with him tonight.
tomorrow, house viewings and then going to check out some graduate art show - should be fun
booked in to draw all day - portfolio is going pretty well. I'm going to do a little jag here as i'm not getting much love from my tumblr pals so am feeling a bit like URGH about delayed gratification
bloody totes bags
General catching up with friends all weekend.
Gonna read a lot too.
Upgrade/update my C.V
Apply for a shitheap of jobs.
probably play some call of duty, read, drink the rest of my scotch, watch a film or two, go to the pub
I keep veering between being really upset and being so FUCKING PSYCHED.
It's been such a huge part of my life for 4 years I don't know what I'll do without it. But at the same time it's so great we've got the oppotunity to go out with a bang and smash it out of the park with THE HITS
I'm going to play the greatest DJ set of my life tonight
Saturday - Cinema, BBQ, some drinks
Sunday - Maybe more cinema, perhaps Miro since the day I went to his museum in Barca it was closed
tonight - easter and day fo rairstrikes
tomorrow - battles and caribou
sunday - grind
heading up norf to spend weekend with girlfriend.
Not a helluva lot planned apart from shopping for wedding clothes tomorrow morning. Maybe some park and/or bbq action if the weather is nice.
Party tonight. She's a twin so it's twice as big as you might think.
I had to buy her present this week, but my credit card got declined (PSN hackers have been spending the dollaz) and I discovered that Capital One had let my emergency card expire and not sent me a replacement. This meant I had to pay cash, which in turn means I have to be extremely frugal now with Glastonbury around the corner if I don't want to arrive penniless.
She had bloody better like her present.
I'm going to try to drink cava in the sun, and will be seeing some of you terrible people later at SS.
Rest of weekend, I don't know. My friend is visiting and is a massive pop music fan, so I'm trying to get us into nicola roberts's <<3> single launch in hoxton, so watch out for a pair of pissed sunburnt scottish lasses in various states of undress popping up on holy moly's wall of shame next week.
Erm, that's about it.
going to a gig
getting raped by alcohol
should be a good weekend
