It's coming back! My favourite thing on the television last year along with The Trip.
Don't think I've seen something that violent on the beeb before. Was tough to watch.
Was a good episode though, I'd only watched the previous two a couple of days beforehand, after seeing it get some Decent reviews, glad I caught up.
I was aware that it was going to culminate in one of the most shocking scenes on British telly and as the credits rolled I was still waiting.
worse about the sound of a hammer smashing someones skull than gunfire or stabby stabby noises.
Loving Idris Elba at the moment. I really hope there is more, but i feat they have just brought it back to kill it off.
Can't quite work out the whole prostitute/Mum/dodgy blokes story though. I don't really care toomuch about it. His hand has healed up nicely after having a nail hammered through it. Talking of hammers.......
The hammer attack in the office was brutally realistic......and then the stamping and jumping on the victim behind that desk just out of view. Horrible. Hammer on the bonce is just terrifying.
The BBC like using Liverpool Street station and the surrounding areas don't they (used in Spooks and Shadow Line).
The actress who plays the Mum (Honey in The Shadow Line too) lives near me in Essex. Saw her on Sunday a bit worse for wear down by the seaside with a fella and her dog. Carrier bag full of beer bottles, quite loud, creating a scene and generally being rather, erm, chavvy. Quite funny really and not what you'd expect from an actress you see on the telly.
In many ways it's very silly, but I can't get enough of it. I love the dark graphic-novel feel to it.
That office scene was brutal!
I hope Alice comes back next week.
Having to wait a week is really killing the series. Most of its contemporaries have the second part the night after.
The prostitute mum story is pretty bad, went very eastenders at one point the other night. The other main storylines have been awesome.
.....but you'd expect some sort of hole, or even a bandage to be over the wound. Still, the lil prozzie girl with the nice eye shadow did put a wee tiny plaster on it in a tenderly way so at least it was referenced.
gave up after 10 minutes - just didn't find Luther convincing enough. I liked the trailer though
but he actually is rather more convincing as it goes on to the point of excellence.
not in an enjoyable way though either
Good contemporary storylines. Better direction. Slightly less mental.
Hope we get a longer series 3 and maybe a bit less side story about what a nice top geezer Luther is. And less inexplicable bits where he finds buying an ice cream hilarious...
everything was covered in snow. Couple of days later he's eating ice cream!
Soaked in petrol and he wanders about with it on still. Hmmm!
Why did they only do four episodes though? seems a little silly to be honest.
I watched one episode last year. I was speechless at how poor it was.
It's amazing what being in The Wire does for you.
I'd honestly rather watch Brum.
found the personal storyline utterly ridiculous running alongside the main narrative... but I just let it slide.
Also, found the way the girl (ex-prostitute) spoke utterly baffling, yet somewhat mesmeric.
The prozzy storyline didn't need to be as prominent, but the bad guys got darker (those last 2 were sick, great stuff)!
The show is littered with inconsistencies and flawed logic, but that really doesn't matter when the rest of the show is as good as it is!
It’s utterly ridiculous but doesn’t really care, so I’m happy to go along with it.
Don’t think this series has been as good as the first. The individual stories have been great, but the over-arching stuff with the gangsters and the young prostitute didn’t really gel together properly – maybe because they had only 4 episodes instead of last series’ 6, so less time to fit the bigger story in with the ‘baddie of the week’ stuff. I didn’t really get what the ‘barrel’ was that the gangsters had Luther over – why was he complying with their demands?
Much preferred the ongoing stuff from series 1 with “Aliiiiiiiiiice” and “Iaaaaaannnn”, and Paul McGann and his wife, and the policeman from internal affairs, and the OTT accent his old boss had.
I was under the impression they were wrapping it up by killing Luther in the final episode, or something to that effect so the show had to finish.
But the series ended, and he's fine...
is going from strength to strength. He's just got the lead in Pacfic Rim a big summer block buster monster movie. So i can't see him doing BBC jobs when he's raking in Hollywood $$$$
the final scene with them sitting eating an ice cream - I actually walked past that when they were filming it!
It was not a time to be eating ice cream though - it was 8am
On another note - I wish they had left out the underlining story (the ex pros thing) and maybe just embellished the weird twins and their killing game a bit more - it needed a bit more investigation and a little less of Luther figuring it out in about 3 seconds.
Was a really intriguing concept but once they broke the code that was that really. Think the Sherlock writers would have done it better.
he figured things out far too quickly and it would verge a little on ridiculous.
They'll need a readily available book for their code. From a cursory glance at their bookshelf I can see they only have old books and couldn't possibly have hidden it amongst them. IT'S THE BIBLE!
but how safe is it to shoot the shit out of someone wearing loads of explosives?
The masked killer, the twins - they were great if they weren't solved in about half a day. It misses the whole twists and turns on the edge of your seat aspect.
the two separate killers over two four-episode series, rather than tried to fit them both in one. Felt a bit forced and could have had a lot more character development
That's why he's such a maverick cop. He has ice cream in winter!!
I too was tutting and telling the TV to get back to the real killers when they carried on with the prozzie and daughter storyline. Complete tosh that side of it. So much more time could've been given over to the killer twins.
Enjoyed spotting places I know in the City area. The outdoor golf range - had my work summer party there a few weeks back.
Petrol all over your head and clothes? Pah! Just wander off and get on with the life of a maverick.
Much better than that Shadowy Line nonsense.
