People are tweeting about machine gun fire and people parachuting from Chinook helicopters
no one told the Police
I'm hearing that the same is happening in London Bridge too
...and I'm very close. Wonder what's going on...
Definitely something weird going down RT @youngturksrec FUCK people are parachuting out of army helicopters in shoreditch
OMG who saw the chinook just drop off a guy in a parachute in Shoreditch!? Plus an unidentified flying object floated past shortly after!!
When I used to work in Shoreditch there'd be helicopters knocking about quite a lot. Wonder if it's to do with that...
its basically the end of the world. So I'm going with that theory, it's more fun.
it is actually just some army open evening thing...
that go from 'fashion shoot near the Mall' to 'omg mass shooting in central London' entirely through Chinese whispers?
Sounds awesome, someone must have a link?
but it disappeared behind a building. Didn't see anyone drop down.

...you wouldn't get Chinooks knocking about for an urban disturbance of that nature. Other helicopters, sure, but a Chinook is a different kettle of onions.
And here endeth my rudimentary knowledge of the RAF.
It takes some setting up for one thing, and for another you wouldn't want the chance of the slighest wind blowing the parachutist into the burning building/vehicle.
Odds on this'll be an And Finally story tomorrow morning about the number of calls received by the emergency services, with a few tweets at the end to pad the story.
Plus I don't think there are normally any Chinooks in London are there? Closest lot are probably at RAF Benson so they'd be a fat lot of use in an emergency situation...
I've never thought it odd (used to see them most days when I lived in the west of scotland).
My #IRA drama today was the evacuation of tower 42. I had to go a stupid detour for dimsum at lunchtime.
way to freak people out
It's an army barracks. Not entirely sure why they should've given warning or how they would've done so myself...
...but doesn't sound to me like there was any wrongdoing. Even if this (significantly pre-organised) event did get a few people a bit panicked. No harm done.
I used to work 5 minutes walk from there, and I've also been to a big event there. They're hardly flying over every day like, but probably once a fortnight or so you'll see a chopper going in...
I mean you normally tend to get small military helicopters going in there... it's not surprising that people were pretty bemused seeing a huge one with people coming out of it, preceded by a bit of gunfire.
Still, no harm done :)
we should be relieved that it wasn't terrorism but we're not we're all gutted
this was a letdown
