this was the original Premier League football launch advertisement:
we could still have ITV showing more football
Which i kinda resent. Memories though - what can ya do?
Pretty immense production values eh, for 20 years ago? Compared to a lot of adverts from that era. Not difficult to see how they wiped the floor with the competition. People can't get enough of The Shiny.
and to be fair they did a pretty good job, right up to the point where they show the footballers and they still all look like pub players.
It would be interesting to see what would have happened to English football without Sky, it would have undoubtedly been worse quality, there wouldn't have been a lot of the new stadia. I wasn't around before it so I've not really got anything to compare it to but it's probably been 'A Good Thing' even if it will end up destroying itself in the long run.
Beat me to it
Making that incredible save in the back garden? Talk about 'for the cameras' :)
where it all got a bit homoerotic.
I was a big football fan in that era but I'm surprised by how many of the players I no longer recognise - even though at the time I probably had a good idea of how many games they'd played, transfer fees commanded and goals scored.
Think it has to be their use of a Thirteen Senses song at half-time in the Real Madrid-Spurs game a couple weeks back.
but i remember the computer generated analysis of that tony yeboah goal made me think the future had arrvied. it also intruduced me to the overhype of sky.
Sky don't muddy their paws with the Europa League.
Scott Gibbs - short ball, barrels over Os Du Randt
Jeremy Guscott - drop goal 5 minutes to go. Test series won
i like jamie redknapp, and andy gray.
