who else would you have on the list?
Can fully understand why he'd be hated by his peers but he's been absolutely fantastic for ages now.
Not even in a 'woe is us', United-kind-of-way. He's been brilliant for us all season.
I'll be interested to see if he's up for the football writer's award
Nani should have made it.
I have very rarely seen Blackpool say, so I don't really know.
His passing range is absolutely fantastic though, he's wonderful to watch at times.
I forgot about Modric. A hero, and more worth than both bale and vdv tbh.
because he does what he does totally under the sensationalist press radar. He can influence a game without being valued at £80m by a tabloid, easily our player of the season so far.
Modric is the beating heart of Spurs, and has been so, so impressive this year.
Sadly I can see us losing him this summer, which would be an absolute disaster
van der Sar
half the shortlist haven't performed in months
see: VDV, Bale, Nasri, even Tevez
Keepers will always struggle for individual recognition rightly or wrongly.
though ya know, I would say that.
in the place of Nasri, Bale and Vidic
I agree he's been one of the league's better performers this season, but the PFA Player's Player of the Year award is just that; the decision of the other players in the league. So it *does* matter what sort of character he is on the pitch. If he's an absolute shithouse to his fellow professionals, they're hardly gonna nominate him, are they?
That'll be why certain other players who aren't 'box office' are there- I'd imagine every player at every club from 10th place down looks at Parker and Adam and thinks 'fucking hell, I couldn't do that job'.
In terms of individual impact on an individual team - Parker and Adam have been borderline heroic.
I'd love to see Adam win it. He's been a revelation and he's been consistently brilliant all season - only Parker rivals him for this, with Vidic behind him.
Still - it's a tough call.
were a certain kind of prick?
Individual player awards are bollocks and all that but come on, everyone hated Ronaldo, Roy Keane wasn't a popular character, Van Nistelrooy, Terry etc
I don't even necessarily think he should win it but not being nominated at all is a bit silly if you ask me.
but he was worshipped by many of his contemporaries. I don't really believe that other players, by and large, dislike the likes of Ronaldo and John Terry- the general poor sentiment towards those players seems to be much more from fans and the press.
Still, I am FURIOUS that the player with the highest combined goals and assists in the league who has been consistently performing to a very high standard at the top level is not even nominated. Devalues the award. Farcical.
as great a professional as he is, the decision to give the award to Ryan Giggs last year had already devalued it in many people's onions. Should have gone to Drogba or Malouda imho.
I did think that Scholes might have a similar nomination after his early season form as well rightly or wrongly.
my mistake. Giggs won it the previous year.
whereas as Nani must be more frustrating to play against in a stop-rolling-around-on-the-floor-you-gaylord sort of sense.
that didn't stop Ronaldo though. or Rooney, for that matter.
however i think the spurs incident might have lost him a lot more respect among professionals than making the most of fouls/being a bit of a whoopsie.
Nani would be very high in some more objective view of this season's performers, possibly the highest. I can't imagine many fellow professionals looked all that kindly on that incident. It's a vote-loser, for sure.
about whether or not Gomes had a free kick and scored when no-one else though the ball was live ... Although I think that the 'handball' is what led to it, not an offside like I said.
MASSIVE SAFETY WINK ;)
when Gerrard or Terry handle a ball, take advantage of an officiating mix-up and stick it in the net its fair play.
there's way too many cunts in the PL for it to be a big deal with the other players.
as well or better than those in the list, he wasn't nominated. Hmmm ...
maybe they're all stupid?
wouldn't realise he was any good, but sure, okay.
anyways, he's on the young player list, so someone likes him.
nani has been relatively unsung this season, all those other ones on the list have been picked out for praise on MotD and in the press more than him
Parker has got plaudits recently, but it's only since the Grant non-sacking that I think he's been talked-up.
There does seem to be a weird reluctance from the press/pundits to acknowledge when a player has stopped having bags of potential and is just generally really effing good now and then. Wilshere has sort of bypassed this to an extent but as a general rule youngsters performing consistently brilliantly have a tough time being acknowledged as such.
Similarly, 'he just needs to find that consistency in his game' is a phrase that does my head in, it's just a brush someone is tarred with regardless of actual levels of consistency. Once it's been attributed to a player it's very hard for them to get rid of it.
Shit, rambling, nonsensical post.
he's been the only thing keeping them from being relegated already.
Van Der Sar deserves some real credit to, partly for recognition of his career and partly because United have been pretty poor this season and he's managed to help keep them up their as title favourites and unbeaten for the longest time.
and it isn't a particularly strong list so i reckon he has a decent chance
for the young players award at least
not too shabby
so Djourou qualifies
to my memory he missed half the season last year, and i certainly wouldn't say he was one of your best players (which would have been Kompany, De Jong and Tevez)
Lescott's looked more than solid for the main part this season. but as you allude to, this could be the same as Smalling looking more than comfortable next to Vidic. stick Lescott next to Jonny Evans and no doubt they'll be a difference.
And Modric has been fantastic this season so i wouldn't complain if he won it.
