Fucking Clemo. Can't even lose right.
The level of smug was outrageous.
I'm so happy for Chan. And his wardrobe.
way too one sided. didnt see that coming.
haddad-fonda was on fire. the aussie guy looked even more confused than normal. neil from the young ones did really badly. chan is a gentlemen in that he always says, "i'm sorry we dont know" quickly and doesnt waste time, unlike clemo who always dithers for ages. cuntmore was as smug as ever.
What was Haddad-Fonda's subject, because he was answering on all sorts of shit.
Can't wait for the autumn now.
his facial tick is good too.
You wouldn't have thought so what with all the calcualtions of travel of sound/light of thunder, lightning and what have you.
They were all atrocious at art though. Thinking a Constable was a Monet? As if.
he was close though
i also got the starter question for the other picture round. which i enjoyed.
there was another team as well, wasn't there. Don't know where they were from.
"HULLO I'M FOTHERINGTON THOMAS FROM LANARKSHAAARH"
I felt sorry for York and Ross Noble for losing so spectacularly...
should totally go on this show
he is losing his mind.
they need more girls.
There is no longer an arm wrestling round unlike in the Gascoigne era.
also their questions have a male-bias.
When I was on our college team, the team organisers and producers we met all very strongly implied, if didn't quite come out and say, that having a mixed gender/racially diverse team would be preferred.
cause it's kinda cheating
Our selection process was just coming along and taking a general knowledge quiz. About 40 people turned up, and probably only about five girls. When they put the squad of eight together, I think they just chose the top scoring test papers - if none of those were the girls, it's just the way the cookie crumbles really. I know there are genius lady quizzers out there - the mighty Trimble for example - but I think in general UC trivia is an area that probably appeals to slightly aspergers men like me.
but I don't think this is a good thing.
Girls are less likely to have read reference books as children (I did this sometimes) and generally don't take pride in being able to recite facts or consider an ability to do so as a form of intelligence. This goes some way to explaining the shortage of women. I mean, I'm pretty ok at it sometimes* but I do get the feeling the canon of general knowledge has been decided by a man-boy.
*the history, politics, arts questions
because of where it leaves girls' perceptions of themselves. Girls are still diagnosed with Aspergers and so it is very possible for them to have the same obsessive cultivation of knowledge. Perhaps society doesn't let girls be geeky enough.
[I'm actually listening to Radio 4 right now and it's discussing this very basis of Aspergers and the "little professors."]
But then, we're going to have to unpick the whole of western civilization and look for male perspective.
We'll find it in a lot of stuff.
Is that stuff then somehow illegitimate because its male observer-relative?
What about the stuff that is female observer-relative?
What if there is none of this stuff, and then we have to invent some?
What if then inevitably no women know it because it is new knowledge that nobody has been taught?
There isn't an easy answer. Well, there is an easy answer. The easy answer is: general knowledge quizzing remains a male preserve. The slightly more difficult answer is: we accept that up until now general knowledge has been male-relative but now will attempt to foster conditions in which it is not until over times thing balance out.
But, here is a complicating factor: the very idea of knowing anything is phallic! The knowing of something is a penetrating of it! So, a female-oriented body of knowledge is at best a strap-on dildo.
The questions Humphrys had to read out!
