opens with something daft, then goes into a confusing scene that was mostly likely created as a comment on society's views on sexuality at that time. no bad

Baiting censors and subverting white femal middle-class conventiaonality, basically. Juxtaposed with the repressed sexuality of Little Richard that's hidden under all the flamboyancy. A general desire to introduce some truth and empathy to TV. And Pryor himself described a brief love affair with a transexual man in his memoir.

What's quite interesting is that they showed it in a kind of uncut format (but with certain sections visibly marked as censored) so you know how much has been cut out. But you have to guess at the contect. Which kinda adds to the illicitness of it.
Whereas today (unless it was Jerry Springer/Ozzy style beeping of swearing) I'd expect them to edit the program to the point where you'd perhaps not even know it had been edited.
