Isn't it weird the way the ground has split directly along the middle of the road? wtf.

New roads are often laid in lanes (it means that the whole road doesn't have to be shut when resurfacing), and they also often have an induced joint down the middle anyway. Tarmac and roads are, even after setting, quite maleable (for example the way it 'rucks' up around a bus station), and it can crack and move quite easily in the course of its life. If you deliberately induce a joint in it, then it's less likely to crack where you don't want it to.
They can be put in by the simple act of casting the slab in different sections, or they go around afterwards with a stihl saw and cut it in.
This thread is so middle of the road.
I don't know why they would, and I reckon the paint would look brighter than it does if so
