because thats the type of guy i am.
sort of childlike and his uh LIFE STORY is really sad. basically he suffered an abdominal disorder which left him with a bit of brain damage. he created lots of art from bits of torn paper and stuff and was famous for wandering around in nothing but a vest.
What is a good present to get two research supervisors (one guy, one woman - both 50's) dicko?
Bottle of wine each probs innit. Either that or a T-shirt with my face on it.
Anything interesting you can think of?
even if they dont like it or never wear it it will probably stay with them longer than bottle of wine ya keep the change kid lol
bottle of wine with your face on it, defo
what's the difference between this thread and the other ones you been posting lately.... O I SEEEEE THATS THE JOKE ;)
i'll keep my massive ego and selfishness contained in one thread
I should have done this instead! It would have saved hours...
here's mine: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music
because i think theres a certain level of uh imagination that cant be recreated.
this whole thread appeals to me massively because i used to do a lot of similar level designs as a kid, but because its also combined with a lot of recent stuff the guy has done, which is really excellent. he did a lot of drawings based on castlevania and they're stunning.
this guy is the best. i really hate encyclopedia dramatica and 4chan and stuff but here's a link to his page there, it actually sums up why this guy is the best pretty well. http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Ulillillia
basically, he's a guy with some sort of mental disorder, and because of this, has a lot of interesting character traits. he's scared of chairs, he only listens to his own midi versions of video game music. he wrote a book, and the whole book is very much like a video game. his youtube is filled with hours of him playing games, and also showing footage from games he's making. he is relentless in his documentation. i am really bad at describing and explaining WHY HE IS GREAT but its something you'll just have to take my word on.
i'm personally responsible for his novel. I mean, obviously he wrote it but i was the one who emailed him ages ago when he was blogging about how to get it published, suggesting he self-publish via lulu.com and attempted to answer his baffling yet highly specific questions about the format of a novel...
I haven't read it yet, got a copy and haven't managed to give it the concentration required for a novel where characters are described using HTML hex colour codes and RPG stats.
But I see it to be basically similar to The Hobbit or LOTR or whatever (as I understand them: I've never read them either) in terms of the obsessive description of detail.
Is Ulillillia the Tolkien of our times?
Whatever the answer, he's a genuinely intriguiing guy. His categorisation and logging of everything is immense. And his minds eye seems to be like an Atari 2600 game. Which I like.
Also: after seeing the cover for 'The Lengend of the 10 Elemental Masters', I now know where MIA got her inspiration for the /\/\/\Y/\ artwork.
Also also: I just lost The Game.
i don't know if these games are real or not. i don't care. this website is great and hilarious. i love it.
in particular, i love this walkthrough: http://i.am.cool.oleg.lt/atari/SHOCK2000.txt
mostly because of what i was saying in the early era 3D thread about reading these walkthroughs in magazines as a kid and imagining what it would be like to play the game and wondering what things like DEFEAT THE BOSS MAN (AIM FOR THE RED CORE) meant and what it would be like to play it. also it's hilarious.
i.. i can dream........... *starves to death from lack of attention*
and clicking none
really really funny blog (i know the background picture is a pain to look at). i am pretty ENAMOURED with this guy because everything he posts is hilarious. CHARACTER and CREATING A WORLD AROUND HIM and other wanky things i dont know heres a few posts from him i really like:
a few threads ive posted about good junk recently:
monster killers webcomic
article on link's awakening game design:
cool rare photos of celebrities:
looking through at my past topics, jesus christ how do you even stand me
this is a game making site, but their whole ethos is about experimentation and crudity (is this a word? spellchecker says so) and basically just getting something made. theres some really interesting games there and its worth a look just to read the manifesto.
its a manifesto for "termite art". cool article about art basically.
i cant take credit these but i think theyre cool
no idea what this is but the character bios are hilarious. HE IS A MALE OF INDIAN.
You stand on the city of disaster.
the Beast City, where the Biological Intelligence
in Artificial System, what we call "BIAS" locates.
Nobody knows about what has been going on "BIAS".
You could hear nothing but deep breathing of "BIAS".
The only way to survive is...
DEHUMANIZE YOURSELF AND FACE TO BLOODSHED.
if that doesnt excite you you arent a real person sorry
full playthrough of a game called Savage. check out that fucking music. straight away, it kicks in and doesnt let go. its AMAZING.
heres a favourite of mine:
are you permanently on stimulants, or something?
sleep is for the weak
the zelda haunted cartridge thing.
but yeah. klaire linked me to a cool one about a haunted pokémon cartridge too. its actually really creepy.
though it was a different link (maybe to the original publication?). I only skimmed it at the time, and it seemed pretty freaky. Watching it now, it's hilariously creepy, or creepily hilarious, or something.
and i've posted about this guy a few times before but i love him.
its the rat boy genius. he makes 3D musicals based on the adventures of a man called HAPPYMAN, and the series follows his adventures. he also makes the occasional story and animation and stuff.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kugSYYQcd8g HAPPYMAN 12
if you watch anything here watch that link. the man who wanted a new body is the best thing. it just keeps going and doesnt really have a point but is charming and optimistic and just aaaaaaa so good.
this thing is a new favourite. every saturday, this site picks up in development screenshots of games and stores them all conveniently in one place. its really interesting to look at all these cool games being made. you can look at previous weeks and i'm not sure how the code works but it seems to be fairly accurate.
Went to this Point/Line/Surface/Solid thing at the weekend http://www.daviddalegallery.co.uk/exhibitions/current/
This http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150143968434048&set=a.10150143968104048.331040.173240514047 made me want to play a monochrome 3D game. Maybe like Doom? Are there any? Or any monochrome levels in games? There totally must be. Failing that, greyscale /might/ do.
its really really really worth looking at. i mean i'm fascinated with how well the past predicted the future and some of these pictures don't look TOO dissimilar to what we have today. flying firemen? flip yes. you saw it here first...
theres stuff like a 200 year old love letter and all sorts of HISTORY. thanks poosie youre a good friend.
