Well, I say novel. I mean pulpy sci fi horror
"The main protagonist, Bob Howard, is a Desk Jockey who was forcibly recruited into the Laundry after accidentally discovering the way to summon Nyarlathotep while messing around with his computer one day. Now he's charged with protecting the Earth from incursions by the many-angled ones, who can be summoned all too easily with modern computer technology. Most of the job is attending meetings and filling out paperwork; but every so often there's a major incident that results in Laundry agents trying to fight off Cthulhu and his cronies with their palm pilots, wards and the occasional briefcase nuke, while Bob has the misfortune to land right in the middle of it."
Only got the first one but it's well good
i've been informed though that that picture is inaccurate, as the Rite of Elroch requires papyrus and 7 people, not six. but then again one of them is holding the camera so idk.
in popular culture: Pokemon
I mean I use/do 'gnosis' of both types, but I find that tinternet is too directive, Im also 'not doing it for a purpose' so involving others too much sort of means that individual chaos is lost as group mind evolves, although one could say that that IS unpredictable and therefore true and natural.
Thats the first time that I've looked that up on wiki, and it confirms that I am right not to have looked it up, because there are far too many specialist words involved.
Also things like the chaosphere (I put this sort of thing away in my early twenties)
By the way if anyone is thinking of going down this (or similar paths) Seriously....and properly, then there is no way back, cos you have to eradicate some of the things that you learnt as you were being broken as a child.
although I do have a mark on me
septagons ying yangs ohms, and sigils of various entities
i respect that.
an 'alternative' to the accepted norm and that it is trying to 'explain' in alternative terms.
These all get in the way/provide smoke screens (although becoming aware of these pitfalls is also a pitfall...its kind of difficult to explain in communal language)
'what you want' 'ambitions' 'what is important' that sort of thing......you have to be dogged in refusing to accept any norm, and this means that you have to develop techniques of your own, you have to refuse to learn in the way that school teaches you, you have to teach yourself in your own way, you have to accept lesser marks in subjects because you learn the correct way to learn them for you, you have to learn things for yourself rather than from 'great men' (although reading their 'works' helps cos you can then see how others follow, but you do not come to your conclusions because of them)
You have to not just accept maths as it is taught, you have to learn your own proof.....discover your own proof.
you have to feel confident that you could live without modern society for then you are not emotionally reliant on it and therefore you can really contemplate existance without it, so that you can honestly feel that you could be useful in another age.
You have to stop seeing the world in terms of a linear progress or that where and when you live is the ultimate expression of humanity (which an amazing amount of people do seem to think)
this is probably all obvious, but only when you have applied all this and then you realise that what you are is real and not pretend, because some things you are can be a considerable disadvantage in that you cannot go with the flow of the current society.....of course it helps if you are endowed with enough to be able to manage without taking advantage of all the little step ups that are given to you.
You also must not be slave to things that are not of your choosing, mammon is a big thing to avoid, especially as it is unavoidable.............its not easy
it would mourn because you are the only one, (of course everyone is, but you have to emphasise this in what you are) You also have to be able to mourn everyone and everything that is removed from the world, every possibility that is closed off is something to mourn (Im appropriating the word mourn here) You should put yourself into a position where everyone has something beautiful and wonderful about them that you could love (and hate if you like) and to do this you have to see societys mores for what they are 'limiters'
but not in the dreary Im on this side or that side polarised arguments that take that form because then there is a chance of 'winning' by numbers, thats horrible and anathma to the truth, because no one and nothing can truly be catagorised (OK they can be generalised for the purpose of practical use but when people start to learn by generalisation/classification then the infinitessimal minutia of the truth is lost......of course the learning method has benefits but you have to know what the limits of those benefits are.
Even if they are never spoken to, or never read, we are animals after all and as animals we are equipped with other logic (than verbal reasoning)
It is exceedingly difficult for most people to escape their verbal reasoning prisons - artists (freestyle) , musicians (improvising), drunks drinking, druggies drugging, zen masters meditating to no mind, couples coupling without worry about what they are doing, onanists onaning without inhibition, dancers dancing without a care about what they look like, can escape their verbal resoning prisons, but being drunk puts you in another prison, musicians and artists (and physicists thinking new thought) are the most celebrated, and might also have another logic they are using.
people wearing just a 'different' uniform and having just 'different' titles does not help escape from conformity, they reinforce it in a reverse sort of way.
Druids with their priesthoods just emulate other high ritual religeons.
I have rituals, they are not impressive and they are not thought out, nature dictates how they develop in me and I work in harmony with nature cos I am part of it (although you have to remove the trappings of modern world to get there sometimes)
but some elements of what they do, do seem to get in the way, although I suspect that for some really cunning ones it is a means to an end and a protection/camoflague from them getting too much censure.
I propose we maintain our core strategy of creating synergies between church burning, having really long hair like a woman, and only wearing black.
