These things are just falling by the wayside now, aren't they?
I had a good weekend. Did you?
Met up for a second date at the Tate Modern at 2pm, browsed the art, said clever things, went through doors we weren't suppposed to, went to Borough Market for lunch, ate delicious things, walked along the Thames stopping to sit and chat, went to Sam Smith's pub for drinks, walked back along the Thames because she loves London in the twilight, walked into Waterloo and went to uber-cool gastropub the Anchor and Hope, had nice meal, walked back to St Pauls stopping on Blackfriar's Bridge to admire the view, said goodbye at about 10.30pm in the tube station going different directions.
Fantastic. Sounds like you both had a great time. very cool!
My only disappointment was not sealing the deal with a kiss, (we sort of squared up in the station, but she was like "I really don't want to give you this cold" [there had been a lot of nose blowing]), but she wouldn't spend all day with me without there being something in it, right?
a kiss with a fist is better than none.
Next time, hip. Next time.
(I'll actually be a really grumpy sod - all this mucus and not even a kiss to show for it).
And no, see above.
It's a bit odd.
which is more than the usual 0 times I heard "fingerbang" said out loud.
There were others. I may have been one of them.
I'm leaving this conversation now.
Where's the Sam Smiths you went to? Didn't know there was one around there.
Pretty good little pub, never very busy, good cheap beer (obviously).
proper little DiS success story going on there.
but i enjoyed it.
i just realised that hofo is hollywood freak! :/ d'oh
What are you doing in this sort of thread?!
Oh the shame.
Went to Underachievers, had nice tapas, went to see Malcolm Middleton and Aidan Moffatt and ate lamb and halloumi.
Saturday was lovely as I had my first Byron burger <3 OH SO GOOD. Then went to patisserie valerie for a massive cake and tea. It was an amazing day for food.
If i've eaten something delightful, I will remember it and think about it for the next week.
^sound like a pig which is true. I am a pig.
then the whole world might seem a bit nicer for you.
others don't. Maybe you haven't had a really good meal/cake that will stick in your mind?
Both my favourite poet and my favourite food.
I ate it way too fast and embarrassed myself but didn't even care as it was so good.
How can a simple burger be so much better than any other burger anywhere else I've ever eaten? I love that place.
Quiet night in on Friday because I wasn’t feeling too great, then a tonking at football on Saturday followed by a friend’s birthday drinks, then a day spent having a bit of a clearout of my room and playing The Longest Journey on my PC. I also mended the hem on my trousers while watching the disappointing V for Vendetta.
This week, I am off to see Submarine and BUG (both at the BFI: tomorrow and on Thursday, respectively).
ALSO I CAN'T REALLY FEEL MY FACE. LIKE PINS AND NEEDLES.
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WITH RADIATION POSIONING, BIT SCARED SOMEONES RADIATED ME.
Was back at the parents place after watching The Gills shove their way past Accrington. After that, just watched a lot of rubbish sport.
Coming to work almost seems exciting in comparison.
Was working all weekend but I'm back in Dorset now. Nice.
I have made the decision to buy a MacBook so I'm off to my local PC World this morning. Nice, expensive.
Going to make tapenade stuffed chicken breasts wrapped in bacon for dinner then watch Katyn. Nice, tricky, harrowing.
Dull and somewhat melancholy weekend. Although I did bake a nice pie. Now I'm at work and I've got far too much to do and I can't be bothered to do any of it. Oh, and I'm getting a cold. Grump.
Guine pig died suddenly. Only 8 months old. was fine on monday morning. Seemed a bit subdued at friday tea time. Smal lamount of Diarrhoea at 10pm. Planned to take him to the vet straight away on Sat morning. Left him at 2am and he was still able to mooch around under his own steam. Up at 8am so we could get him to the vet, but he was out cold. Rubbish rubbish rubbish. He was fucking ace while he was around though, so we've got that, I guess. Shame about the other piggie, who loved him to bits and has now seen 2 of his mates cop it within 9 months. He's kinda mopey right now so we'll prolly get a newbie sooner rather than later.
RIP McLaren. http://is.gd/BNzcuK
RIP wee McLaren
Oh this is so sad. So sorry to hear this.
I'm sorry to hear that. What a horrible shock :(
What's the other one's name?
Treat him to a Nut Knot Nibbler.
The other fella's called Godber, the bigger one in these pics http://is.gd/qCjXhd & http://is.gd/D2qJco They're early pics so McLaren eventually got a bit bigger than, but he was never gonna be as Godber. Maybe it was some sort of growth thing that was part of his undoing? Dunno. If we get another we'll prolly continue the Porridge character theme. What next? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porridge_%28TV_series%29#Cast Fletch has 'been released'. 'Lukewarm' seems liekly. MsWza and I are obviously Barrowclough (the soft one) & Mackay (the tough one).
What are they reading there?
It's in a pod thing as a lining for their toilet business when they're out for a run on the floor. They used to actually use it, but have ended up just going anywhere so we have to put an old shower curtain down as a lining underneath the throw that they play/mooch about on.
True Grit on Friday. Ladfest stag night on Saturday. Hangover on Sunday.
Sorry to hear about your guinea pig, WZA. I know I'm going to be an absolute wreck when mine goes :(
If anything, it all went by far too fast, as happens when you're enjoying lots of family time, delicious food, fresh air, country hotel port drinking, and laughing. Managing to shed my bank card somewhere between Liverpool street station and home however, which was rather a PITA.
Busy week ahead and waiting to hear if I have to go to Greece mid-week, which will scupper my time management plans for the next fortnight if it goes ahead. Pity I didn't drop my passport last night instead of my debit card :/
Just remembered, have tablet and macaroons in my bag. Sweet!(s)
Not for boring work though.
I think athens has quite a good nightlife, but I wouldn't get to see any of it. And I've been to the acropolis twice and it killed my soul a little bit.
she said it snowed heavily the entire time she was there.
It was snowing quite heavily in scotland at the weekend. I was not dressed appropriately, AT ALL, as I'm sure you can imagine.
tiny boat over a loch in gale conditions, yes.
I just wish I'd had a scarf. Am still Brrrrrrrrrrrr thinking about it!
For how long?? Don't make me get mad with them.
My butt hurts as I think I pulled a muscle in it doing yoga yesterday. 3 hrs of yoga. I did a double class. What was I thinking? Anyway, had a lovely weekend. Went for dinner at Pizza East on Saturday night...ended up eating rabbit pizza and discussing how brilliantly funny this scene in Home Alone 2 really is. I love Cliff.
Granted, a lot of wine was involved.
good work, monipenni
at the bank, i then went and got a mold taken of my ears for some £150 ear plugs. Then when i got home my guitarist calls and says hes coming down tonight in stead of tomorrow so the the entire weekend became band related/recording/practice. he went home 11pm last night and I watched saving silverman. the end :)
Was great, I think I've got a two day hangy though.
Lazed about on Saturday watching Arrested Development, then went for an Indian with some mates and then the pub - was alright.
Wasted Sunday laying about doing fuck all - complete waste of a day. No energy at all.
Got tomorrow and wednesday off - thank god. Might go see Drive Angry (IN THREE DEE)
nowhere is showing Drive Angry anymore - thanks a fucking bunch.
So it's either Hall Pass, Battle: Los Angeles or Unknown.
NO. You must see it in the cinema! In 3D!
I don't even know where Ashton-Under-Lyne is! What a joke.
Has anyone seen The Adjustment Bureau yet? The trailer made it look interesting, but it looks like it's going to be proper sappy underneath it all.
^hover over that with your mouse and you'll fine Ashton-Under-Lined.
I need sleep. badly
isn't all that really. Was a bit disappointed as it'd been made out to be UBER-BANANAZ MENTAL BOING BOING KERAZZEEE WHOO DID YOU SEE THAT but it was just alright and I mean /just/.
I thought it'd be along the lines of Crank, and it wasn't. Fairly entertaining, but not worthy of the hype or fanwanking that's been shuffled about on the tinterwebs.
The Adjustment Bureau is an romantic action flick, with a thin veneer of schi-fhi gubbery stretched over the top. I still can't see it being worse than Paycheck, which is the worst Phillip K Dick adaptation I've seen, and also the worst John Woo film I've ever seen.
Hall Pass is supposed to be utterly shite. Unknown is supposed to be pretty good, and I've seen mixed reviews of Battle LA.
Drive Angry was amazing. Obviously not as a serious film but for the sheer ridiculousness of the film. There were so many moments where it was just like "what the fuuuuck?" that it was an amazingly brilliant film. Film of the year so far.
I watched the Unknown trailer and I'm seriously considering seeing that because Liam Neeson is badass. \m/
Or I might get drunk and go see Hall Pass. I'm not in a massively good mood so stupid comedy might cheer me.
i miss this joint.
good weekend. it's my birthday tomorrow so saturday was the night out...which was good. and then yesturday was the family meal. which was good. i think my comic genius is rubbing off on my oldest neice (she's three). yesturday, out of nowhere, she said....'hey...uncle michael...imagine if cats wore shoes and socks'...and we collapsed in laughter. so then we played a game called 'imagine if cats...' in which we imagined funny things for cats to do. the best was one of hers: 'imagine if cats pulled the curtains'. amazing. i love that kid.
pretty exciting week ahead. i've booked it off work to go scotland with friends on thursday. scotland! i've never been to scotland. i'm hoping that a lot of the girls in scotland will be scottish. before that, i'm moving in to my parents new house on wednesday. and tonight i'm going to bodean's with a couple of charmers. perfick.
only problem is the impending doom of turning 24 and having achieved nothing with my life. but...y'know. SCOTLAND!
That sounds like some top quality cat banter. Enjoy Scotland, I've never been either but I hear it's lovely.
Happy birthday too - I'm dreading turning 24 myself, there's something unwholesomely rounded about it. But hey, you've got a well smart masters and you write ace reviews for a major music website. Things aren't all bad!
Come to the next open mic, yeah?
when is it?
p.s. where/when did you meet the lady who stars in the above story? it must be promising, that date sounded lovely.
but you'll probably be all "Yeah I'm definitely coming" and then not come again. :D
i'm well good at that.
31st march though. it's in my diary.
it was actually a birthday resolution of mine to pick up the guitar again, take it seriously this time and eventually create an album of such sparse and haunting delicacy matched with poetic and quintissentially british lyrics that NME call me...'BON IVER MEETS GUY GARVEY'.
so i could try and actually play one time at open mic. or i won't. whatever.
it was actually several weeks ago on OkCupid. She sent me a message asking about Nabokov, and it all went from there. Been out twice now. Hopefully will go out again.
And now I'm going to try and avoid going on about it on DiS at the risk of oversharing my entire life.
that's pretty exciting. fingers crossed for you sir.
I'm off for a few days of uncling myself, getting a train in an hour or so, looking forward to it
on the downside, my sisters having kids has made me realise i really want kids. whereas before i was content to live out my days alone in tiny rented accomodation where i could spend hours reading and listening to music and watching films at leasure before evenings in a local where everybody knows my name....now i might have to get a mortgage and worry about the nutritional value of school dinners. well gutted.
its just peer pressure.
don't cave in.
an old friend has been diagnosed with testicular cancer. Same age as me, so it at least reminds me how lucky I am to have a clear bill of health, but it really couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, which sucks.
It's a sad Monday then, but I'll be seeing the mrs at lunch time which will cheer me up. The weekend was absolutely amazing, so really I don't have a lot to complain about. I am going to make a sausage and HP sauce sandwich and figure out some battle plans for this week's workload.
yeah...bit surreal when it's someone your own age, as you just sort of assume that all your friends are invincible, or I do at least... crud.
That sucks. Sorry, fella.
You boring cunt.
I'm also bored at work. BUT IM NOT BORING THOUGH! YOU ARE!
The weekend started badly, as there was an explosion in the lab below me that put two people in hospital. Fingers crossed they're alright. FYI, an explosion on the floor below you feels a lot like a train rumbling through a nearby tunnel. Then alarms.
Saturday was good - Borough Market, then a couple of pubs, then Fika (Swedish restaurant) on Brick Lane for dinner. Lie in on Sunday, then the bus back home and a lazy evening in. Won't get to see the girlfriend for another 3 weeks or so, which is shite, but it'll be my birthday weekend after that.
I'll be old.
I had a disagreement with one of the other Something Serious DJs, and it kind of turned into a big falling out. Was mostly empty. Proceeded to get monumentally shitfaced. Bar staff invited me for a lock in with them. Got home very confused at like 5am, was forced to sleep on the sofa as I stank of whiskey.
Saturday, Foxy's parents were over for her graduation. Went for dinner and drinks were her uncle and mum. Her uncle insisted we go to some swanky Inception esque bar where he got us free cocktails because he didn't throw the barmen out of his bar when he caught him smoking weed or something. Then we went to Cha Cha Moons which was awesome and made me feel loads better. I went out for a walk around 11pm and it was drizzling yet still a nice evening, and I got a kebab rather pointlessly.
Yesterday to Foxy's aunt's house for dinner with her dad and aunt. Lots of very intense Northern Irish people and historical debate. On the way home she started to feel ill and spent the night chucking up. I'm not feeling great this morning and am now scared that as soon as I eat I'll start blowing chunks.
Also I was given a new computer at work as a remedy to what I thought was quite a simple problem. I've been reloading my outlook since 8:30 and there's still 2 hours to go!
obviously Saturday was mega. All day drinking + beating Brum in a PULSATING and ENTHRALLING FA Sixth Round tie = winning.
Sunday I woke up at 4pm. Mooched around and played football manager then went out for a friend's birthday. Pulled an outrageously hot girl who has left me with bite marks on my neck. I got her number. Tbh it's odd because I'm still not sure this weekend happened.
Sounds like you had a cracking weekend yoursen, scoop. Best of luck.
it was ok. My parents stopped on the way to pick my sister up from university on Friday night, and took me out for dinner, which was nice.
Saw Howl at the cinema on Saturday. It was a fairly academic and uncinematic sort of film, but really interesting all the same (and I love the poem, so that helps).
Went for a walk in the countryside with a few friends on Sunday. Spent most of the weekend avoiding the 2500 word case report that's due in tomorrow, which I'm now wrestling unhappily with.
to take a popular turn of phrase atm, did you smash it?
texted him to see if he wanted to meet up this week, but the response was basically "really sorry, so busy all this week and going home for Easter holidays at the weekend". So it's not looking great - I'm sure he's busy and all, but I also think if he was interested he'd find the time.
I think I'm just really good at misreading signals. Perhaps okcupid might be the way forward... although it sounds like you had a pretty good weekend without the help of the internet :)
harsh man. Still, he could maybe be really busy? Depends on his course I guess. Keep going dude.
Okcupid is a good laugh from my experience but idk how well it works for irl relationships (though apparently good for hand shandies).
thanks :) I still don't know how it happened because if this develops into something i am punching above my weight massively. Still, she's just texted back again so I'm content with life at the moment :)
Yeah, could be that he is just super busy. Definitely won't see him for a few weeks anyway while he's on holidays (I'm not, medical students are here forever) so will just have to see what happens, if anything, when he gets back. Good luck with your thing, and remember that everyone always thinks they're punching above their weight!
Saw it on facebook.
I'm not going to get either of those things. This is even worse than Valentine's day :(
Am I turning into Bamos?
Saturday - all day pub adventure
Sunday - fry up followed by True Grit
Hip, sounds like the perfect date. Have you heard from her since?
Lovely weekend in Wales, was lovely being in my hometown watching rugby and drinking Welsh beer.
Got the laste train back last night (love travelling at night) and had an early morning bath with a cup of fresh coffee listening to 6 music this morning. Was wonderful.
I'm off to the Olympic site later today to go to some Press Launch thingy so that will be good and then band practice tonight.
If anyone's about on Friday my band are playing in Soho, will be a good 'un.
Oh, and if anyone's stuck with anything to do on St Paddy's day, then I have been asked by some Irish friends to do an acoustic set in Gaelic (oh lordy) so come along and its free.
Don't know when we're going to have a chance to meet up again though. Will work something out.
Have a good week, sounds busy!
I would, but I'm working all weekend which has thrown a spanner in things.
didn't recognise any DiSers I'd previously met but did lot's of enthusiastic dancing so much fun was had.
Saturday - mild hangover management with fried breakfast. Quiet afternoon then round to not-girlfriend's for dinner and hanging out.
Sunday - More sitting around her flat then off to see True Grit and have drinks with another friend who I hadn't seen for months so had a good catch up with her.
Did you go and talk to Rob whilst he was DJing?
and I didn't recognise anyone else around the dj bit so didn't go and say hello.
But it was only at the last something serious I got introduced to people (I was with nice_squirrel) so could have missed someone.
I was the one in the cardigen and Rural Alberta Advantage Tee* jumping round to At the drive-in etc
*in fact somneone said thay had the same shirt, and a girl in a grey dress said she liked my moves (must have been drunk) so they could have been DiSer's.
Hello if that's anyone here!
I was the over enthusiastic dancer with a black/white/redwine dress. Hello!
slim, blonde, floppy indie fringe (really not going against type for DiSer tbh).
And this sounds far too much like a dating profile... gsoh, non smoker etc etc
I think Sophie might have introduced me to you and chintzy last time (don't think we chatted though) but I'd bad at remembering people when I'm drunk so didn't recognise you.
I *think* I remember meeting you last time. I was a fair bit boozy last time so my memory is also not great.
the clocks went forward an hour so i got screwed up. after drinking a full six pack and some champagne on friday evening whilst watching Xmen 3 and Pride and Prejudice, i felt a little weak on saturday. we went for a drive along some random highway and ended up at someones house looking at a statue of Stephen F. Austin, who I have no idea is.
anyway we went and looked at semi atuomatic pistols and shotguns.
after home made burgers we watched the first half of the ultimate cut of Watchmen. the tales of the black freighter are amazing... and the movie feels a lot more close to the comic and as such begins to make a little more sense. we still have a lot to watch, but it is really good.
yesterday we walked along a 'bayou' and watched 3 episodes of limmy's show which was excellent. really like the new characters so far. not bad.
now what do i do? [/wetbehindearsindieprick]
Serious answer - text her early this evening. Not too keen but keen enough.
was wondering when a 'smash it' response would come, cheers.
Test the waters
Just a thought?
i know to do that bit. but the when/where/how not so much.
So she feels she has to text back
