And possibly some younger gits too. What programme do you expect to start after this:
The opening titles of which used to prompt a race between my brother and I to see who good run from the room the fastest. The loser had to sit through the whole thing.
with a pre-Neighbours Mrs Mangle.
For the record, I expect to hear "Up above the streets and houses rainbow climbing high..."
So this thread has some legs, feel free to turn it into a discussion about how the tories fucked up the ITV franchises (probably)
as that was on BBC
I don't know, never knowingly seen that.
Don't worry bamos, there are no right or wrong answers. Apart from Pigeon Street.
Whatever the Martie Caine programme was, is my answer.
I loved her when I was little.

Anyway, you're from the North, aren't you? Surely you always had the Granada thingie.
You're hardly an 'Old Git' of DiS either if we come to that! :p
I'm pretty sure the Thames thing did come on before some shows even though we're in the North, I definitely have memories of it one way or another.
And, thank you :) I'm not an old git but I think I might be middle aged.
you'd still see that ident before any programme made by Thames.
TVS used to make all the kids programmes in the studios in Maidstone.
When Meridian took over they made practically zero television bar news.
A few of my friends were often involved in the kids TV shows.
You'd see the ident as shown in my link at the start and you'd see a still of the ident at the end.
I though that you got a still screen of it after a programme (for example I can remember No. 73 having the TVS logo at the end of each show).
we could receive TVS and sometimes Anglia on a clear day but not Thames and I remember the animated ident with 'Salute to Thames' being shown before programmes.
we could receive Thames, Anglia and TVS. We used to watch Thames though, as everone in the local news on the other channels looked like an inbred.
but we were so poor we couldn't afford a proper ariel.
You did make me doubt myself though but I did find this on wikipedia (if you trust the source) which reassured me I wasn't imagining it:
Thames's station and production identification sequences (idents) provided the station with some fame. For many years these would be aired both in London, where Thames would broadcast during the week, and throughout the country, animated before, and as a static image after, programmes produced for ITV by Thames.
so you wouldn't have seen the Thames ident, it would have been the LWT one.
That's pretty much my first memory of television.
Here is the prelude to Pob!
I don't know why as I used to watch stacks of shit stuff on Thames. Probably Knight Rider would be high up there, though.
Am I the only person who liked the 'continuity' of Steve Knight reading sports news just before Knight Rider? Probably.
